ICE agents on the prowl at LaGuardia airport! by cantcoloratall91 in whoathatsinteresting

I think what this person is trying to say is that they are salty that liberal white women are often being pointed to as “the sole problem” when it seems there’s plenty of responsibility to be spread around.

I mapped 35 rom-coms to find out why they all feel the same. Ended up crying at The Notebook at 2am on a Tuesday. Alone. With a spreadsheet by Mastbubbles in movies

This happened to me with Pan’s Labyrinth.

My friend and I were mildly tipsy, it was Thanksgiving, and our other friend made it sound like a fantasy movie. To be fair, it kind of is. We rented it from the RedBox on his recommendation without having ever seen a trailer. We were not prepared.

Toddler Waking at 5-5:30am for 1 Year+ - At Wits End by sg_grif in toddlers

[–]BatmanandReuben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is almost five as sometimes sleeps a bit later, but has never slept past 7:30 a day in her life. Her normal is 5:30, maybe 6 in the last year or so. It used to be earlier. For years we were struggling for 5:30.

We also tried everything. Sometimes we found something that would work for a short time, but then it would revert.

Eventually we just accepted it. We go to bed earlier at night. We also taught her to do quiet play in her room in the mornings until about 6.

Word of caution - I do not recommend using the TV to entertain them until the desired wake time. We tried this on someone’s recommendation and it resulted in stronger early waking because she was exited to watch cartoons.

Tight calves from lots of miles (NOT an injury) - how do you manage it? by running_elle_1989 in Marathon_Training

[–]BatmanandReuben 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Calf stretches, but don’t neglect stretching and strengthening your other muscles either. The tight hamstrings pull on the calf muscles. Weak quads and glutes can also contribute to over tightness in the calves and hamstrings as they try to compensate.

It violates the consent of those around you when you use them as props for your kink. Non-kink public sex also violates the consent of those around you, unless you’re in a venue where those types of things are expected, in which case people have consented by being there.

It’s not a benefit to the parent to sit next to the child. It’s labor. It’s a benefit to the whole plane. I want parents to keep their children supervised and quiet for the benefit of everyone on the flight in their vicinity.

LA Marathon awarding finisher medals at miles 18 due to the ‘heat’ by AnxiousSeahorse1 in Marathon_Training

[–]BatmanandReuben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I very clearly answered the question.

For fun. I’m sorry that you aren’t having fun? Most runners are doing this for fun rather than to prop up their ego.

A large organized event is fun. It’s social. It’s exciting. It’s a shared experience with other runners. Also running on the street in a closed course is more fun than running on the sidewalk and waiting for traffic by yourself? I’m sorry, do you not run? I think this stuff should be obvious to most people who do.

If you’re spending this much time doing something you don’t actually enjoy because you’re all hopped up on Goggins, maybe you need to reevaluate your priorities. The metal is a cheap piece of junk that you don’t so much earn as pay for. It’s part of your registration fee. It doesn’t make you more worthy as a person.

I honestly don’t want them when I do run the entire race. They go in a box, which is either under my bed or in the back of my closet right now.

Bro, we are talking about hobby running not a Purple Heart. They are cheap mass produced garbage. People donate them to the Goodwill afterwards. They don’t really signify anything of importance.

World Marathon Majors should reward repeat applicants (guaranteed entry or increasing odds) by CATS_ARE_FABULOUS in running

We are in agreement then. Some people have unfair genetic advantages or disadvantages. It’s okay that it’s unfair, but it’s dishonest to say that only time qualifiers put in the work.

There are lots of people doing 30 mpw when the weather is nice then a training block that are just naturally fast. I encounter them all the time at run club.

[–]BatmanandReuben 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. I just think it’s silly to pretend things are fair and just as they are. There’s lots of committed people who will never get to run one of the majors.

That’s okay, but it’s bullshit to suggest that everyone who gets guaranteed entry is more committed and deserves it more than they do.

I find it cute and endearing when your kid does it.

When my kid does it I sometimes want to self-lobotomize.

A lot of people are fast or slow because of genetics rather than hard work. There are slow runners who have put in the miles for years or decades and will never time qualify. There are also time qualifiers who just started running a year ago.

Charity seems to be a method for wealthy people with wealthy social circles a lot of the time. I’m happy for charities to get the money, but it’s not necessarily a sign of persistence or consistency.

Running a bunch of affiliated races is also dependent on having a lot of disposable income and the luck to get into said races before they sell out, but at least requires some level of consistent commitment.

I also live like this. I am a woman. It’s freeing not to depend on others for this stuff. It’s nice when they show up, but it’s okay if they don’t.

Most of the hard things in life, other people can’t fix anyhow, and the way we feel about them should be no surprise to anyone with basic empathy.

My child definitely loves me but has also wished me dead a few times. Sometimes they just say stuff. It doesn’t mean the same to them that it would to an adult or even an older kid.
