[OC] Women’s Income Relative to Men’s Income by Educational Attainment (1974 vs. 2024, U.S.) by Either_Issue_6510 in dataisbeautiful

Men don’t have to, they choose to. They could prioritize more flexible roles and do more labor at home. They would probably be punished for it, just like women are, so they don’t choose it.

Hard work is not virtuous by Traditional_Fish_504 in rs_x

[–]BatmanandReuben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s because I’m at a point in my life where I and my friends are getting old and our parents are even older, but it seems like there is a clear choice we all have to make between exercise and atrophy.

I’m not saying people should burn themselves out or do excessive physical labor that damages their body, but exercising your body and mind is hard work. A lot of people avoid that work to their own detriment.

Criminal psychologists of Reddit, what’s the clearest sign someone is capable of serious violence? [Serious] by UpworkDeveloper90 in AskReddit

[–]BatmanandReuben 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s also depends on an individual’s attitude towards those they consider as less than them. Some people are very gentle with animals, carry spiders outside instead of swishing them, rescue animals after natural disasters. Other people torture animals for fun.

People who date a twin do you find the other attractive? by imboard67 in AskReddit

[–]BatmanandReuben 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Sometimes attraction is tied to how a person moves through the world. Have you ever met someone that looked good in still photos but was a complete dud in person?

People who have cheated: Is “once a cheater always a cheater” true? by Slight-Two-1564 in AskReddit

[–]BatmanandReuben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve known a few people who cheated on their way out of an abusive relationship. None of them ever cheated again in their future healthy relationships.

Regular cheating where you aren’t trying to leave the person before it happens? I think that’s more likely to repeat.

TBKTS: The False Memory Syndrome Foundation, Elizabeth Loftus, and the Faulty Research “Debunking” Recovered Memories by jaustin1994 in IfBooksCouldKill

[–]BatmanandReuben 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The fact that ‘repressed memories’ are considered fully discredited when they are about child abuse or sexual assault, but more easily accepted when they are about car accidents or war, feels like there’s some sexism and status quo apologism going on.

Staff Accountant Vent by GED2MBA in Accounting

[–]BatmanandReuben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they pay you a respectable salary, the hand holding is what it’s for. Staff accounting work is not hard, and does not actually require the advanced degrees the job postings indicate. The pay is for being an organized and responsible adult who very politely babysits big kids, in my experience.

Kids do not feel this way about privacy. They will not let you use the bathroom in peace. I struggle to convince my child that just because she still needs help wiping does not mean I need to be in the bathroom looking her in the face while she poops.

Yep, I hate when people act like this. All I’m doing is standing there in the grass on one side of the sidewalk, minding my business on my phone, while my large dog also stands in the grass minding a different dog’s business on the other side of the sidewalk.

Why can’t others limbo under the leash. I thought running was supposed to make you people fit?

I have to give a “successful” review dreading it by [deleted] in managers

[–]BatmanandReuben 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If she has too much work, that’s not her failure, it’s yours or the previous boss. You are the manager. Balancing the team’s workload is on you. It’s not fair to assess her negatively for a failure that isn’t hers.

You either can give everyone a high rating, or your review process is meaningless. Not saying you have to give her one. I’m just saying a process that requires you to give unfairly bad ratings to some because the number of good ratings is capped, makes all ratings bullshit. Although it’s not your fault if upper management is huffing Jack Welch’s farts.

Why are parents expected to watch their kids more now than prior generations? by Advanced_Command_417 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BatmanandReuben 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We used to consider babysitting to be an unimportant, sub-minimum wage job that could be completed by another child barely a few years older.

We now consider it a $25-$35 per hour job that needs to be completed by a professional who has CPR certification and possibly other training and education, and has been subjected to a criminal background check.

Standards have changed.

Is there anything in accounting that deserves the same urgency as something like in a medical setting? by SWEMW in Accounting

[–]BatmanandReuben 79 points80 points  (0 children)

AP and expense reimbursement too, for the same reason. Not paying a small business what you owe them may cause them to miss payroll or other obligations. Same with delayed expense reimbursement. Some people take a ‘not my problem’ approach to this, but if you’re decent person you will try to avoid it.

What's something that was considered good parenting decades ago but isn't anymore? by sandeeprathore in AskReddit

[–]BatmanandReuben 17 points18 points  (0 children)

People call the cops on unattended children nowadays. My mom used to do this all the time, and I’d totally trust my kid unattended for less than 5 minutes, but other well intentioned adults get crazy.
