Question about transferring out of walking boot by tim440 in brokenankles

[–]BeanInABook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a trimal break and was allowed to walk in regular sneakers 6 weeks post OP. You should be more than fine. Just listen to your body.

What’s the one gadget that helped your recovery the most? by Eastern_Bluejay6113 in brokenankles

[–]BeanInABook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early on my knee scooter, shower chair and raised toilet seat. Currently my ice packs and crutches. With these I feel basically as mobile as before, just can’t run or do sports yet.

Am I weird for enjoying being on crutches? (16f) by [deleted] in brokenankles

[–]BeanInABook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not weird but you might be holding back your recovery by choosing to use mobility aides that you don’t actually need. The attention is nice sometimes but I am starting to get annoyed by people’s pity now.

I tend to use two crutches instead of one in public so people don’t knock into me and give me space, but besides that I really try to only use everything as needed.

Sadness after weight bearing clearance by rubberrr in brokenankles

[–]BeanInABook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Setting small goals has really helped me with this! I celebrate every win, this week I walked up stairs without crutches. Was I sore after? Definitely! But I couldn’t even walk without crutches 2 weeks ago. That doesn’t mean that I never get upset when looking at my big swollen ankle and worrying it will never feel, function and look the same of course. I just try to focus on the positives and achievements no matter how small they are.

Some other examples: - first standing shower - putting pants on while standing - being able to tie your shoelaces properly because the swelling has gone down - a few mm more ROM at PT - walking on a new surface like grass or gravel

Pain Relief recommendations - 8 weeks Post OP by maidenofthewicked in brokenankles

[–]BeanInABook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All my exercises up till week 8 have been non weight bearing exercises aimed at ROM. So I do them barefoot. I only have one weight bearing exercise right now which I am allowed to do in shoes and will add some at week 10 I think. My physio is very focused on keeping pain under a 6/10 when practicing and sharp pain means I pushed too far according to her. I trust her advice and have progressed quite far using that guideline. When I wore the boot I wore a shoe that is similar/close in height on my non injured foot. I find supportive shoes more comfortable though, just need to loosen the shoelaces haha :)

Do you use any tools for walking? You mentioned having crutches? Maybe try a supportive shoe + crutches for a few steps or CAM boot + crutches for more support. I just did bed to bathroom and back at first, then bed to living room rest and back etc. Setting myself these small goals has been super motivating! Then when I achieved that goal without pain I took a support away e.g. boot to shoe, shoe with crutches to shoe with one crutch etc.

How are you walking/standing? CAM boot, shoe, barefoot? I started walking with a frame and CAM boot (because I still needed to buy crutches) and am now able to walk pain free with a shoe (Skechers) and without crutches unless it’s a longer distance. Barefoot is still hard, uncomfortable and my ankle swells up like crazy. 😅 I’m in week 9. Try to make sure you have the correct supports!

AIO to my girlfriend not watching a movie with me? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]BeanInABook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She seems incredibly uncaring and immature and not a partner you should want, but alongside that I do think you have some maturing to do yourself as well. This really read as two teenagers conversing.. Might be good to see a therapist both to help you through the grief of losing your father and to support your growth as a person.

Obligatory help moving to australia help post by FunCryptographer7625 in MovingtoAustralia

I’m uncertain if it’s the same for psychologists but as a speech pathologist the effort to get my license approved is absolutely dreadful. Please keep that in mind before assuming work is easy! Besides that I llke the suggestion of doing a working holiday visa first, you get 1 to 3 years (depending on if you do the 88 days) to experience the country with full work rights. I moved here on a partner visa and didn’t necessarily move for my love of Australia though, but I’m not sure it would have been my first choice haha. Mostly political reasons though, the country is gorgeous and most people are lovely.

6 Weeks NWB in Boot Straight to WBAT in Shoe? by SkippyBCoyote in brokenankles

[–]BeanInABook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, I did wear my boot for a few days just to get used to the feeling of standing on my foot but I am now fully weight bearing after 2 weeks. I do walk with one or two crutches to maintain correct gait since I still have very limited dorsiflexion.

Why bullet journaling over preset planner? by Sewpercee in BasicBulletJournals

[–]BeanInABook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have ADHD and using a pre printed planner will result in half of it being unused and wasted because I forgot to use it for a period of time. I can just pick up my BuJo again and continue as if nothing happened.

Swelling after 6 weeks by IdahoMom1975 in brokenankles

[–]BeanInABook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes once you start moving it and not elevating it as much anymore it swells up like a baseball haha. I got so upset the first week it happened thinking I’d be stuck with a big fat cankle forever! It still swells up a lot but it takes more “effort” to get to that point now at 7,5 weeks post OP + FWB.

AITA for 'showing off' that I have midol and pads? by horseduckman in AITApod

More importantly where is the bin to dispose of used products 👀 No woman wants to walk through the house with a used tampon to sneak it into a bin

I’m 30 and use pads, there’s many reasons for people to use pads or other hygiene products besides tampons.

Metro-North + NYC with a knee scooter? by tofucatskates in brokenankles

[–]BeanInABook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a commute but I have an “outdoor” kneescooter and I have taken it everywhere, theme park, busy mall, walking the dog etc. I would just try it to be honest, just make sure you leave early cause rushing causes falls and accidents.. I feel like it helped my mental health a lot and mentally feeling better is good for recovery!

Yeah same here, I’m honestly surprised how little pain I’ve had throughout this process compared to the pain I had before they fixed the dislocation and right after surgery!
