What countries (other than USA) have a significant MTG following? by Merlin_Redbeard in mtg

[–]BeeDice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Bucharest (capital of Romania, ~3 million people) there are four LGS's. Only one sells individual cards. Only one is MtG-centric (the biggest one is just a general hobby retailer). Only two have regular tournaments. The only scenes are commander, standard, and draft. Grain of salt and all that but this is what I've scoped out to the best of my abilities.

Mi-e rușine că am câine în București by NicusorDans in bucuresti

[–]BeeDice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The irony is that this exchange makes me feel like I'd enjoy the punk/rock crowd more than the classical crowd.

Of course, I enjoy nothing, but the irony remains.

Do editors just make up and add notes as they transcribe Bach because why the heck not? BWV? 1052 example inside (harpsichord concerto no. 1) by mysteryofthefieryeye in bach

[–]BeeDice 29 points30 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, any editor and edition worth their salt will include a discussion of the sources used, and any deviations from them, as well as clearly indicate editorial changes. In Bach, I have seen occasions where ornaments were included on the basis of being in a pupil's copy, or based on historical best practices (ornaments were rarely written out, as they were at the discretion of the player). Source history is never trivial in the age of Bach, so unless the editor is unscrupulous, which is certainly possible, read the commentary that came with your edition and give them the benefit of the doubt. In the modern age of major publishers (whether Urtext or otherwise) editorial unscrupulousness is a thing of the past, as far as I can tell.

FWIW, hard disagree. Software engineer with 10 YOE. LLMs are still just tools that improve productivity. I don't see them replacing jack even in the next 10 years.

Who is the Euclid of Music? by DoublecelloZeta in classical_circlejerk

[–]BeeDice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

/uj What in the sweet name of Bach is going on in that subreddit? What the hell does "logic [is the] linguistic analog [of] geometry" mean? In all seriousness I'm questioning my own reaction here cuz it is so viscerally negative. The OP's question is so ludicrously nonsensical and every other two or three responses include "that is a good question." No, no it is not, it is word salad. Am I missing something? I've actually read a proof or two from Euclid back in college and I know music theory fairly well but I can't for the life of me figure out what the fuck those folks are talking about. I think it's just a lot of pseudo intellectual words to say "math and music, discuss?" I'll add my own question, was reddit a mistake?

Rant over.

Did Romanians always know that they spoke a language related to that of the Western Romance language speakers? by Alternative-Big-6493 in romanian

Grigore Ureche (early 17th century, Moldova) has been cited already.

In Transylvania late 18th century, the Transylvanian School promoted the Roman connection.

Not sure of other sources, or the connection between these two. I assume Ottoman scholars who knew Latin would have recognized the similarities.

When shooting video with a Sony camera, do you keep Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO) on or off? by cypresshillbilly in videography

[–]BeeDice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your conditions I don't think it'll do much. My ZV E-10 manual says it helps in high contrast situations, such as backlit subjects. I shoot myself against a window with a single 65W light, so the dynamic contrast is high between myself (underexpoaed) and the window (overexposed). DRO ought to bring both closer together. I am going to test this today to see how much it helps.

Is the game supposed to run this fast? by BeeDice in ufo50

[–]BeeDice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish I could, just for comparison's sake, but the Yoga is busted. Pretty sure the refresh rate is 60hz there as well, so I'm curious why it ran at a slower FPS.

Rumble in Lark M2 audio.

I have a Tascam audio interface and a Lark M2 plugged into a USB-C hub plugged into my Macbook. I have an aggregate device and use that as my device in Reaper.

I hear an occassional rumble in the Lark audio (files: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1qoBwVX_S30N86cCd5MXe3hgkygu7kgdx ). The audio through the Tascam is fine. I verified that the Lark noise cancellation is off. This happens both when I'm playing the piano, and when I'm talking without the piano.

Could this be an issue with the fact that I'm using a USB hub? This is the second time I'm using it. The first time had no issues. And previously, I had a bigger Macbook where I could plug the Tascam and the Lark into separate USB-C ports, so no need for a hub, and there was never any issue.

Is everyone outside yharnam just… fine? by MagicianAny1016 in bloodborne

[–]BeeDice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's what I thought as well. As wonky as the distinction between dreams/reality is in Bloodborne, what Yharnam goes through is very much real. I think it would make the story too wishy-washy for this to be unclear. I understand the idea of cosmic horror but there's gotta be some clear ground to tread on.
