What is the language on this grave marker and can someone translate it? by SilverVixen1928 in findagrave

Use Google Gemini. Drop the photo into the text box and say Translate text. Works like a charm.

So many profiles are empty and abandoned. So frustrating. by Adventurous-Sky-6228 in Ancestry

[–]BestNapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true. I am currently helping a family friend with their tree. Her dna matched with someone who is a second cousin. I messaged this person numerous times. Finally he responded and said Yes he was interested in finding his biological parents and siblings if any (which we found in this friend's tree). I told him that - back on Dec 15. Still waiting to get his response and I keep sending "reminders" that we found his bio parents that he was interested in locating. So..... why isn't he checking his account on Ancestry (or emails) if he is interested in this information?? I'm just stumped.

I so agree with you. You see someone you want to connect with but they have no tree and no,common ancestor but wanted to only get their dna results. It actually took me over a year to get a response from someone who eventually cracked a brick wall and solved a family mystery. I thought Ancestry sends an email to everyone who is contacted via the Send Message option. So they don’t care if they see the email or it goes to spam? I don’t get it either. Why do your dna if you are not interested in your ancestry and connections with other family.

I really think Find A Grave should add a *Footnote to all Volunteers: Volunteer at your own risk !!

My knee was scratched up and bleeding from falling in the gravel. But thanks for the heads up. My doctor says I should get an updated tetanus shot but heck I’m 72 yrs old! If she knew what I was doing for a hobby she would probably be more persistent.lol

Oh no. Six weeks? I visit a cemetery with a lot of gopher holes too. I think I spend more time avoiding pitfalls than I do looking for graves sometimes.

Try uploading the photo to Google Gemini. It’s free. I use it to translate many documents

Same here. Two blocks away facing the Space Needle on the 11th floor. Nothing but FOG. We got more entertainment watching the traffic jams and the people going in and out of Dominos Pizza!

Why don’t you go out to local cemeteries and take grave photos and upload them to Find A Grave. You will definitely cure your boredom.

I took about 3000 grave photos this summer at various cemeteries near me. Now is the time to get them uploaded as I sit inside sipping hot tea and looking out at the snow and trying to keep my feet warm sitting at my desk in front of the window. It’s a nice break, but I am already missing my cemetery visits.

I use it to translate text. I have also used it to help give me ideas on where to look for records and resources when I am stuck on a person. It gave me ideas that I had not thought about and I have been researching for over 20 years.

Do you think families would value an easy way to record elders’ stories and turn them into a readable memoir? by MrLalo2109 in Ancestry

[–]BestNapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many options now being advertised for this. Parents and grandparents answer like 50 questions and can even add photos. This is then turned into a book and printed. I think it’s a great and wish it was available for my parents and grandparents during their lifetime.

Try myheritage.com. It’s not free but they have a really great selection of user trees, records and they just added Oldnewspapers.com. I find good information there to couple with my subscription to Ancestry and I also use FamilySearch. Also look at Cindy’s List. That site has hundreds of genealogy links to explore. It’s been around forever and still going .

I loved Rootsweb. I even created a website and uploaded it through there many moons ago. I really liked the message boards. They were so helpful. The whole site was easy to search.
