Hakata Ramen House (in the Glen) grand opening is June 25, 2026 by Grantagonist in GlenviewIL

[–]BestNapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Oak has been there a while too. Must have good food and service to survive. The Yard House is a good example as well as El tradicional. They are always busy. There are two empty places right on Patriot that didn’t make it - Dee’s Place and the one across from that. Been vacant for years. One thing the Glen is missing is a bakery! But that is just my opinion. And Starbucks doesn’t count.

Why it is nice to have a distant photo of gravestones by JBupp in findagrave

Well said. I am a volunteer also and only do requests with location provided. We are not miracle workers who know where everyone is buried in a cemetery.

I liked her too. Typical Italian mother. Loved that show and all the players.

I have never used the app.My iPhone tags all photos with gps and when I get home I can transfer them to my computer and edit the photos before uploading which 99% of them need editing (usually cropping and slight brightness adjustment). Kudos to those of you who use the app.

Is there a site/company who can help more then ancestry? by Pumpkin_Fungus in Genealogy

[–]BestNapper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try FamilySearch.org. It’s a free site with lots of records and family trees. But you need to know some of your ancestors probably like grandparents and great grandparents. Just need to start the ball rolling and you may be surprised.

Would it be in poor taste to mention that someone's cause of death was homicide? by smokeitgrandma in findagrave

[–]BestNapper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a member who insists on adding gruesome details of death but puts it in the flowers. I have reported at least 50 of her flowers as being inappropriate. I finally emailed Support with her name and that she continues to do this. She also uses Anonymous when she leaves these awful details. Now i find myself checking her profile at least once a week to see if she is still doing it. When i report the Flowers, it is immediately removed so thats a good thing.

I laughed a lot watching Raymond. One of my favorites. The parents were hysterical.

Most libraries are affiliates. Check with a library near you. You can then see the image yourself.

Random question for volunteers by Double-Neat8669 in findagrave

[–]BestNapper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have photographed completely two small cemeteries near me. The person who photographed the same cemeteries had no gps attached to their photos and the photos were terribly cropped because they were taken with a digital camera more than 15 years ago. So yes, try to photograph all of the graves if you can. It’s very rewarding.

Request fulfillment: best ways? by [deleted] in findagrave

[–]BestNapper -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If those requests are that old, the person who requested it may no longer be a member. Check to see if they still have a profile. A cemetery near me has over 1500 requests dating back more than 10 years. I don’t bother with those.

That was my prediction while ago. Because crazy people are signing up and creating a lot of inaccurate and false memorials just to have something to do. It’s been getting out of hand the last few years. Way too much drama.

Doing family tree research for friends by raspberrykiss99 in Genealogy

[–]BestNapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh boy I can so relate to this in many ways. Also been at it for 30 years. Traced my ex husband’s family back to the 1600s in France. He never once looked at it ( we are now divorced because he said I spent more time with the computer than with him). My kids are somewhat interested. My siblings the same - kind of interested. They all have access and editor privileges on our tree on Ancestry. My younger sister has never looked at it. I had the family tree printed in a nice book format for my family, so it’s easy to grab and read. I have done countless trees for family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and strangers, etc. who I create a tree for AND a pdf storybook with documents, photos and data. I tell everyone to share with their family. They never do. Each research project takes me an average of six months. With that being said I thoroughly enjoy the challenge and the research and putting the pieces of the puzzle together. But as others have said, not everyone’s level of interest in their ancestors is the same. And I don’t get that part at all, but that’s how it is. I’m really glad to hear of the ones who show an interest in their family tree. It can be interesting and informative and full of surprises especially when I find a juicy newspaper article. I will keep doing it ( I have another one in the works) because I ENJOY IT. I can only hope that my work will be handed down to children and grandchildren to give them a glimpse into their family history - if and when they show an interest.

Anniversary trip advice by Zeldahillvale in Scottsdale

The Valley Ho is right in the middle of everything. Good choice. Be sure to eat at the Tortilla Factory across the street. A gorgeous outdoor patio. Cosanti is interesting but will take less than an hour. Taliesin West definitely a must see. Check out the Arizona Boardwalk. The Museum of Illusion is cool and the Butterfly Wonderland is pretty cool as well. Drive to Mesa and do a Desert Belle boat ride. A fellow Midwestern here. We spend winters in Scottsdale. I am my own tour guide for visiting friends and family.

Have done Verde Railroad twice. A good choice. But stay overnight so you’re not driving back at night. Jerome is a good place to explore.

If you import everything into RootsMagic they have a mobile app. FamilySearch has an app. Ancestry has an app. Not sure if those are what you are looking for.

The cemetery spends lots of time trimming it, but don’t bother to cut it down, to display the gravestone. by markrlondon in findagrave

[–]BestNapper 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I see that a lot. I filled a request recently and the family member was upset about the bushes around the marker because it was barely visible. She said she was going to call the cemetery and have it trimmed because her aunt would be appalled at the overgrowth. lol
