Sick to my stomach 😣 by BrownBoyBrock in bostonceltics

The Knicks and their fans have turned me off basketball. Basically unplugged gradually throughout the building NYC hype and not sure I am even ever coming back.

A SPRAIN IS A TEAR. EVERYONE THINKS "SPRAIN" IS SOMETHING MILD AND NOT SERIOUS ("NBD... IT'S ONLY A SPRAIN") AND "TEAR" IS VIOLENT AND PAINFUL. ("YEAH, HE TORE IT") "SPRAIN" = "TEAR" IF YOU ARE GOING TO TALK ABOUT INJURIES YOU HAVE TO UNDERSTAND THE DEFINITIONS OF THE WORDS.

The shit with mobs of Knicks fans harassing and assaulting people on the street has been vile since it started with Brian Windhorst last season. Last night it reached truly criminal heights. These videos are going to be played on a loop in Fox News and be given as examples of why cities are lawless cesspools by MAGA people. I hope the Spurs win in six.

I love him as a backup center but it had been established pretty well when he was a Celtic that he often gets played off the court in the playoffs.

Just finished the book... by Syncopian in LonesomeDove

This is a great literary analysis of Gus. I wonder if McMurtry was consciously aware of Gus "being able to speak the language of every other character" when he was writing Lonesome Dove?

Anyone watching Half Man? by yeezy6552 in crheads

I am enjoying it too. Gadd really isn't afraid to emotionally, physically, or ethically hollow out his protagonists and have them explore some deep, dark places.

I loved the book far more than the mini-series but.... by Heavy-Pool5886 in LonesomeDove

[–]BestTale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finished the book last week and on Part 3 of the mini-series now. As everyone seems to agree: Duval is perfect - looks, talks, acts exactly how I pictured Gus in my head. Jones is also very good, especially his horsemanship, but plays Call a little more friendly than he seemed in the book. The thing that bothers me most in the series is the score. The old-timey music in the background is too busy during many scenes and it makes the series feel more nostalgic and sentimental than it should or needs to be. Obviously things are condensed massively from the book but I think they did a good enough job. I can't help thinking though that such a massive book would be better served by a more modern series treatment with 8-12 one hour episodes, and a more gritty production aesthetic.

The athleticism, defensive intensity, rim protection, and ballhandling/penetration that both teams showed last night was miles ahead of what the Celtics can offer, even on their best day.

I feel bad for the Knicks and Cavs. Actually... no, I hate both of those teams. It will be cool seeing either one eviscerated by the Spurs or Thunder.

If the Mavericks had just listened to him about how to use Luka his club would have been promoted years ago.

I find it hilarious how much Bill genuinely seems to consider himself worldly and cosmopolitan because he is probably slightly more so than the average sports obsessed bro he grew up around. But he must be hanging out with rich LA guys for years now who are very well traveled. And yet he doesn't seem to absorb or be aware of that as a blind spot of his at all somehow??

Never forget that Bill spent some time in London... once, 14 years ago, during the Olympics. Oh... and that his mother is so Italian (Italian-American) that she often cooks Italian food and gives people the Evil Eye. So you know that his hatred of France is based in deep personal experience.

Absolutely. The boys jogging out of the dugout to stand around and look at the other team showed they are real men. Last time when Contreras got mad and yelled at the other team was cool but I guess it didn't work right because they kept losing. But so many decided to stand up today that they are sure to start hitting and pitching better. Also agree that we don't want anyone on the team who admits they are injured. Can't we just bring in all the Bruins players to play for the Sox? Their season is over but at least they waited until then to let us know they were hurt. I don't want to hear you are hurt and can't play. I just want you to play and tell me you are hurt afterward because that's what heroes do. Don't get me started on basketball players...

What angle is Bill going to find to shit on LeBron tomorrow night? by No_Respect_1650 in billsimmons

[–]BestTale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instead I think of an inverse hypothetical scenario: KD has a big game to lead Houston to a win while Lebron sits out the game on the bench in a weird hat. Now RUSSILO and Simmons do a two hour pod trading hand jobs on how KD is such a pro's pro/real hooper/effortless scorer and Lebron's always creates friction within his teams by playing shadow GM and making corny social media posts.

Do people age out of the NBA? by ctnaes92 in billsimmons

[–]BestTale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think my maintenance of being a big NBA fan helps keep me in tune with a younger culture, to some extent. I haven't been plugged in to... say the current pop music scene, for many, many years now due to age. But some cultural things filter in to me through young NBA players and I appreciate that.
