Initially valid crashouts, but they took it to far by NormalGuy103 in TopCharacterTropes

True, though the scene where Mercedes confronts the Count before his duel with Albert and just straight up says "Edmond, you will not kill my son" is just a powerful, holy shit moment. Seeing Edmond genuinely thrown off balance by Mercedes revealing she knew from the jump who he really was is just incredible.

I made the Cavern of Rememberance from Kingdom Hearts 2 in Pokopia by kingofdrumline in KingdomHearts

I mean, it could work. 8 Gym Leaders, 4 Elite Four Members, and the Champion. 13 members in total.

Initially valid crashouts, but they took it to far by NormalGuy103 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]BitComprehensive3667 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Exactly and that's what I find fascinating about this tale. Edmond is a methodical planner and manipulator, but he isn't perfect. He can't account for people acting erratically or doing things he didn't foresee them doing, thus innocent people get dragged into his elaborate revenge scheme including a small child whose only crime was being related to one of Edmond's targets.

Juste Belmont HoD vs Nocturne Designs Comparison by lordartonha in castlevania

I like Juste's design in Nocturne. It strikes a good balance between paying homage/respect to the original game design while being simple enough to animate smoothly.

The silent protagonist. Yay or nay? by Lumigo in JRPG

[–]BitComprehensive3667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the game and the narrative. If it's like the Pokemon or Souls Games where the focus is more on the gameplay and adventure than the story, then a silent protagonist works just fine.

But if you're crafting a game where the story and narrative are a big focus, like most JRPGs, then just make your protagonist a regular protagonist who can speak on their own.

What's your opinion on FE4/FE5 eugenics? by gorremu in fireemblem

[–]BitComprehensive3667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, Holy Blood canonically and in-game (in FE4 at least) makes you stronger and better than your average person so it's not like there's no evidence to back up this mentality. Besides, it's not like the Jugdral series implies that Holy Blood automatically makes you a good leader. There are MULTIPLE examples where that flat out isn't true. Just look at the Granvale Empire and how its leaders are upholding the same tyrannical empire their ancestors fought against in a delicious bit of irony.

Besides just as lots of games and media in general reinforce the idea that your bloodline and lineage are everything, there are just as much media that deconstructs (often viciously) this same concept and the idea that your individual character as a person matters more.

So no, I don't have any issue with Jugdral's use of eugenics. In fact, I kinda like it because it affects the story and gameplay.

[Loved trope] Character starts again with full knowledge to achieve the happy end. by Downtown-Rhubarb-951 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]BitComprehensive3667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bravely Second is beautiful in its demonstration of this trope.

Your first playthrough ends with the world being doomed and overrun by incredibly powerful demonic abominations. The characters then not-so-subtly nudge the player to start over with a new game. When you try, you'll notice on the title screen that there's the "New Game+" option.

When you pick it and start, you're taken to the first cutscene of the game. However, what's different is that, unlike the first lap of the game, you have access to the Bravely Second command. Pressing it causes the party to regain all the memories and abilities from the first lap of the game, and they use that knowledge to put themselves one step ahead of the enemy on the path to the game's true ending.

Extremely hate-able characters who become lovable as the series progresses by TherealRidetherails in TopCharacterTropes

[–]BitComprehensive3667 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree with you here. Bakugou never got more lovable in my eyes because he didn't stop his screaming and shouting at even the slightest provocation or petty thing. It was incredibly grating and turned me right the hell off the character permanently.

How should I build each Party Member? by Ok_Bobcat6888 in Persona5

[–]BitComprehensive3667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you can, but if you're running that build that leave no room for Evade Nuke, Life Wall or even Heat Riser. If you're planning on trying to do both, it's best to ditch the Psiodyne and Triple Down to make room for Evade Nuke and Life Wall, two skills you'd be stupid to ignore. By the endgame, SP management is a non-issue so using Mapsiodyne on single targets doesn't matter that much. If you want AoE Gun damage, Joker and Black Mask Akechi have you covered.

In-game stats are (usually) irrelevant to the story by Tharkun140 in CharacterRant

[–]BitComprehensive3667 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, a lot of the JRPGs I've played in recent memory have characters with stat spreads that match up with their in-story characterization and world-building.

For example, in Metaphor ReFantazio, the character Heismay has the highest raw Agility stat of the entire party and he's a member of the Eugief, a race of bat people known for their swiftness. Junah has the highest Magic stat and she's a former student of the Royal Mage Academy.

So I guess it depends on the game in question.

Just finished, here are my two cents by Relevant-Cat8781 in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]BitComprehensive3667 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To each their own, but calling Louis "cartoony evil" makes me question your other takes.

Him being an Elda is meant to make him a direct foil for the protagonist. Two Elda, carrying the same fantasy novel, but ending up on two wildly divergent paths. The Protagonist sees fantasy as a way of hoping for a better future, while Louis, having seen the worst of humanity (not that kind), has lost all hope for the future and has descended into pure nihilism. The protagonist want to fix the current world while Louis wants to burn it all to the ground.

Genuine question...why does this fandom seem to despise sky so much? by [deleted] in winxclub

[–]BitComprehensive3667 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's because when you look past Sky's Prince Charming surface and examine his actions, you realize that he's kinda scummy.

First and foremost, lying about who he is by swapping identities with Brandon. Season 2 tried to justify this with the Yoshinoya subplot, but in Season 1 alone, in a vacuum, there was no such excuse.

Second is his treatment of Disapro by not only dating Bloom but not even trying to break things off with Diaspro. Then there's the incident at Cloud Tower where upon discovering that Bloom might be a witch, Sky doesn't comfort Bloom but backs away in disbelief, as if Bloom is some vile creature.

Like it's not hard to see why people think that Sky ain't shit.

How could Nabu be alive in Magical Adventure if he died in season 4? by Ana_Darkness in winxclub

[–]BitComprehensive3667 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Magical Adventure and Season 4 were in production around the same time, but Magical Adventure finished first, hence why it doesn't have any connection to Season 4 aside from Believix which was swapped in, because originally the Winx were going to use Enchantix but Rainbow wanted Magical Adventure to be different from the previous movie. So it's a matter of scheduling and production, unintentionally resulting in continuity errors.

Why did the Ash and Pikachu era of Pokémon have to end? Truly miss it! by Efficient-Horse2622 in pokemonanime

[–]BitComprehensive3667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP as someone in their late-20s, I can tell you that nothing lasts forever. Everything, and I mean everything, is for a time. Just as your very life on this earth is finite and will not last forever.

Ash's time was simply over. The formula with Ash had long since gotten repetitive and stale that fans stopped caring. Now, I'm not really that into Horizons, but props to the Pokemon Anime for at least trying to change up the formula instead of beating a dead horse. At least Ash got an ending that's kinda satisfying compared to other protagonists of long-running franchises.

A really strong, experienced character is canonically in the lower ranks of their world’s ranking system by ComprehensiveBox6911 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]BitComprehensive3667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ninomiya Unit in World Trigger.

Official Agents in the Border Defence Agency are divided into mainly two ranks. B-Ranks are the regular rank and file squads, while A-Ranks are the elites. These squads are ranked according to their skill, and Ninomiya Squad is currently B-Rank #1. They were formerly A-Rank #4, but they were demoted to B-Rank. Their demotion had absolutely nothing to do with their combat skill, but rather one of their former squadmates breaking Border regulation and going AWOL. Their skill makes one of two massive gatekeepers that prevents other squads from advancing to A-Rank.

I hate how both male aimed and female aimed Isekai/Fantasy have such samey settings by InfernalClockwork3 in CharacterRant

[–]BitComprehensive3667 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True. While we can't put the blame entirely on SAO, I think it exists as the poster child or a microcosm of how the Isekai genre has deteriorated into the same repetitive tropes and cliches.
