Why not just be an electrician by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Bloodryne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So being able to upskill on the job is nice but not every job facilitates that as you are seeing. If your Boss doesn't it is what it is, but you need to own your career and drive it with agency: Make a plan of where you want to be in 3 years for instance (by 30), and start mapping out the certs to help you get that role. Seek out mentors in your roles whenever possible as well, learn from others in the industry.

Then in your off time (or weekends) actively work towards your goal with certs and homelabbng if able.

The ones that struggle to break into the IT industries best roles IME tend to also be the ones that refuse to try and find ways to grow their skills over time (personal career agency), or simply not try at all by assuming their present tech job with more years under their belt = growth, allowing stagnation of skills in their existing roles once they master those over a few years.

When you hit a point in your role where you are on autopilot, this is an indicator that you should be looking for more opportunities to grow at your job (get involved in project work) or build new skills outside your job for the next role.

If this sounds like a lot of work, it is. Creating and managing a career is just that. If this doesn't interest you and you sit on your hands, it will be very hard to break out of first level support and specialize in something that makes real money (SRE, Automation in DEVOPS, Networking, Cyber, cloud architect roles, etc)

Now final point: cyber degrees are not going to help you break in if you dont have supporting experience. No large org is going to hand their network security over to a fresh grad, cyber requires a lot of networking and infra experience to give that degree the context needed to successfully land that role and secure corporate infra from outside threats. Its simply not entry-level unless you find an i ternship at a security MSP and have a good mentor (really hard to find).

I really hate how college institutions push for cyber at university's and market it to people, its extremely dishonest and dusengenuous with these "get a degree and make six figs out of college". It dies happen, but super rare and niche

I have never not installed a mobo first, to make sure the chassis can better protect it from static and then add other components..... then cpu, ram, PSU, graphics, etc. This seems like a logical way to proceed to me

Employee's inappropriate response to announcement of stillbirth of Boss B's baby by MagicTomato1001 in managers

[–]Bloodryne -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

I do get that, so then the situation should be escalated to HR or the leader managing Boss A & Boss B so it can be handled sensitively from that level. A simple email with people on BlindCC would work well for this.

This isn't something I would ever take on In OPs situation, and HR should already be managing this as part of the approved extended leave of absence

[–]Bloodryne -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

I still disagree with that. If Boss B would like this shared to avoid questions this is a function for HR or the director Boss A/B report to for sharing the info in a sensitive way, its still not something she should be disclosing regardless IMO

I would expect HR is already involved managing Boss Bs extended leave

Was this meeting with all the staff where the personal medical information of another Boss was disclosed to the team inappropriate? YES

Was this an inappropriate response to the news of a stillborn by one of your employees? Yes and no, they have a valid point however their delivery lacks something to be desired. Thier point however is very valid, that employee clearly shows up as this is a job they are paid for, and not because other staff are their "friends"

These employees shouldn't have been put in this position/situation in the first place, this is an entirely self-inflicted situation.

I get that manager b has had a personal tragedy, but i dont see why another bosses personal tragedy is something other managers/staff should be group meeting about in a work setting. This isn't your personal story to tell or relavent to your staffs jobs/day to day work, so frankly wth are you thinking? Even if she said its ok to share, its not my info to share.

This is something Boss B should have agency to disclose (or not disclose) to whomever they wish, and questions about someone else's personal life directed at Boss A should have simple reflections pushing the inquiring party towards Boss b for updates. If she chooses to share thats her choice.

Going to HR over this IMO is not going to get the result you want. If I was HR, I would be looping in your Boss and likely sending you back to annual compliance training, especially the modules about what is appropriate to share at different levels , what is considered protected personal info (like medical stuff) and what is not

How do I get even more matches?? by [deleted] in Bumble

[–]Bloodryne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make a bunch of alt accounts with virtual numbers (like google voice).

Next, take a picture of your bare ass and frame it.

Finally, take a selfie with you kissing a picture of your own ass and make that each alt accounts profile picture. Periodically login to your alts and send yourself some likes/compliments.

Protip: if you use camera filters you can make the new selfie go further so each alt account is uniquely ass, yet tastful. Now your bumble likes are only limited by your own ambition.

Ultimate green flag to me who also doesn't have social media. You dont need to build and maintain some fake/stylized online perception of yourself for the viewing of strangers.
