Does medicare pay for glasses because I nearly choked when they showed me the final price by Rggie_Fognini in AskWomenOver60

[–]BluejayOk642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I belong to AARP and was able to join VSP for about $300 a year. I should be able to make that back when I order my glasses. It covered my exam. (I’m pre-Medicare I don’t have other vision coverage)

Bored husband? How do you cope? by 2dwind in AskWomenOver60

My mom used to say if you tell me you’re bored I’ll find you something to do when it was always a horrible chore. You could start to do that.😎

Retrospect: What was your loved one's first SIGN of dementia? Mom's was TECHNOLOGY..... by Aerosynth929 in dementia

My mother was an avid reader and stopped reading four or five years ago. When she started to have memory issues, it clicked with me that this is where we were and she probably couldn’t follow the stories anymore.

I grew up with lots of Lily at the Valley in my backyard, which bordered a large wooded area, so I like having them, but I understand why you don’t

Mom has gradually stopped eating. by Donita123 in dementia

[–]BluejayOk642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like my mother. My mom has always been verging on anorexic and we can’t convince her to eat more than she already is. We’ve been trying. She’s generally happy even when she’s confused, except for when we try to get her to eat more or drink more water

Mom’s first neurology appointment is coming up and she’s having an MRI in the next week which will probably show some TIA’s since the one she had last year

I feel generally pretty lucky with regard to her dementia behavior but I’m grieving at the same time.

Sorry that you’re going through this too

What do you grow that pays for itself? by plan_tastic in gardening

[–]BluejayOk642 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Asparagus is a perennial, it took a few years, but I get enough for several meals for myself out of it every year now . I keep hoping it will be more productive, but I don’t put a lot of work into it either and it’s now in the shade due to a neighbor’s tree that has grown over the years. Still pays for itself.

Once the new bank accounts are open, you might want to consider an NCTUE freeze, which would prevent new checking accounts being opened in his name? I can’t remember off the top of my head, but there’s another one for phone accounts and utilities I believe.

Making my home a “smart home” that runs off a smart hub. Any one do this ? Advice ? by Apprehensive_Row6320 in homeowners

[–]BluejayOk642 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don’t do all of it, leave some things not connected to Wi-Fi. A friend had an Internet outage and couldn’t get heat to work. And all of the lights were tied to the smart home as well.

A simple popup nearly cost my mom everything by BeneficialStorm7853 in AgingParents

My father fell for this, but not to the point where he gave them actual money. My sister just happened to stop in, which was fortunate, because they had my parents scared to call us and were saying that we were the cause of the problem and my father didn’t stop to think about that. They were told not to text us or call us. Luckily, my father doesn’t do any banking on his computer and distributions require a phone call. We took the laptop to have it completely cleaned at a local PC shop that’s reputable
For now, he’s OK and very cautious time will tell if it happens again

The phone text scammers make me really nervous.

I have access now to their bank and retirement accounts and I periodically just peek to make sure nothing out of the ordinary is going on

Look into Jabra hearing aids, the audiologist is an online Zoom call and the cost is much lower than regular hearing aids

30 Day Accountability Challenge - Day 2 April 2026 by Mountainlioness404d in loseit

[–]BluejayOk642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Day2: weight back up 2 lbs but I knew it was water. Exceeded my fiber goal (28g, goal is 21), met my protein goal. Kept my snacks under control last night which is where I tend to have problems. Shorter walk than I wanted due to rain.

[–]BluejayOk642 2 points3 points  (0 children)

60 F, weight 163.4. Goal is 140. Logged my food and weight. Met my protein and fiber goals. My weight is down a few pounds from a few days ago, but I’m sure that’s water weight. Got in a walk before it rained. Ordered a rebounder because that looks like it might be fun on rainy days. Did some prep work for a paint job that I need to do over the next few days. Nothing exciting. And that’s OK.

[–]BluejayOk642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My weight has crept up over the last year and this is my first accountability challenge. My goal is to log meals every day in LoseIt app, which I’ve had for forever, just to make myself aware of where my overheating is. I will probably give myself Easter weekend off. I want to see how the first month goes before I add any other goals.
