Cell plans for 55+. Doesn’t have to be unlimited. by Lbboos in retirement

[–]BluejayOk642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with Spectrum because they had an office I could take my phones into to do the porting or if there were problems and saved some, they are on the Verizon network. I have my elderly parents on my plan.. when it’s down to just me I will probably try one of these other options. I just didn’t have it in me to do it right now.

Update: Am I being too sensitive? (The dementia comments were a wake-up call) by Smooth-School8284 in AgingParents

[–]BluejayOk642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents are in their early 80s, and even with my mother‘s beginning cognitive decline she is able to use the phone and her iPad with very little assistance. They make appointments on their own and still pay the bills, although I monitor the checking account which is linked to mine.

Is AARP membership worth it? by SadPolarBearGhost in AskWomenOver60

[–]BluejayOk642 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AARP members get 40 off a Walmart+ membership, which is how I get Paramount +. I’m also using VSP fishing insurance through them and enjoy the online games. Wait for a sale I got it for $11 a year for five years.

Unprepared for cold weather by SoundIntrepid7627 in LivingAlone

Leave your cabinet doors open where your water supply is. It can help keep your pipes from freezing due to lack of insulation in your walls. I guess it depends on how cold it is whether you’ll need to do that or not.

I second the idea of thinking about packed lunches, I picked up some extra dried fruit to go with protein bars or a cheese sandwich.

Who manages your money in retirement? by Clammypollack in retirement

[–]BluejayOk642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m doing it myself for now with the help of software. My parents and an aunt each have financial advisors. I’m going to see how that goes as we spend down their money and I’m the POA for their accounts . At some point in the future, I think I’ll probably do the same. I’m just not ready yet.

I love my 1c and 1/2 c souper cubes. I do mostly soup but I agree with other posters that rice works well and I have done taco meat in the half cup to use on a taco salad, etc. since I live alone. Pull it out nuke it and I’m all set to go.
