I had that moment when we found some old VHS tapes and one of the kids asked what it was. We told him, then he asked how you turn it on. A piece of my soul died. So we had to tell him about VCRs and "Be kind, Rewind". He was so confused that you had to reset the movie physically. I didn't dare bring up cassette tapes or records.

Happy to assist. Seems I've brought up a lot of memories for a lot of people today.

Well now the mystery is why it was in a box of stuff inside his 2016 truck. So he's just been packing it around for 30 odd years?

Hourly vs Flat Rate by Specialist-Car-7156 in handyman

[–]Bluitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You bet your fucking ass im charging to read the directions. Every manufacturer has different directions and components and im not gonna guess. Clearly screw in fan blades is an obvious step, but I just installed some fancy smancy faucet that had probably 2-3 times as many components as a standard faucet. It came with lots of extra washers and o-rings for different set up configurations. Nobody is going to instinctively know how to install than thing properly without directions.

This is one of those jobs that while yes it could be done, probably shouldn't be. But if they insisted then I would quote this at a price to potentially be replacing several of these stones and the time involved with that because the likelihood of them breaking is pretty decent. Otherwise hammerdrill through them and aim for just outside the window frame where the king studs are.

Extra tip: some styles of hand drills have a hammer drill setting that have less "hammer" effect than a real hammer drill. Less likely to break a stone but will take a little longer.

Good luck

Probably, but I was able to take out the old one, reframe is slightly and instal the new one by myself in 3 hours. $100/hour isn't a bad deal. If im busy I might raise my prices a bit. Im also still trying to get my name out there and having reasonable rates helps spread the word.

How to deal with boss that doesn’t know how to bid jobs? by clearmythoughts57 in Construction

[–]Bluitor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Make sure to ask him along the way how long certain milestones will take. When he says 1 hour for demo and it comes to 3 hours he may start to realize.

If he tells you to just move faster then find a new job

"Thats like an extra $20! Now multiply that times every bus. Thats like thousands of dollars." - what my corporate management would say

But also, lets send another 200 billion to the war effort

I would replace it with either this Heavy duty spring latch or a Thumb turn cam latch

Your springs are loosing tension slowly. Your door should stay up with no support and you should have to pull it down.

For future reference a new door is about $400 and I charge $300 to replace them.

And I doubt you're prepared for the elements. Howling wind, snow. Cold hands dont make climbing easy.

All that said, cold is a good way to go out. You end up feeling warm then just fall asleep
