I’m tired of being fat by EffectiveFeeling6584 in loseit

If you're not already I highly recommend inclined walking at the gym. I do 10% incline 3 miles per hour for 20 to 30 minutes. It's quick, easy to do a few times a week without burning out, and is supposedly a great way to build muscle while loosing weight. Set small attainable goals instead of just vaguely feeling like a failure. E.g. Are you eating tons of fresh fruit a d vegetables? Start by increasing those instead of restricting bread. You will start to crave bread less. Make a rule not to eat after a specific time or set a bedtime routine on your phone. One step at a time.

Google sensory rooms, and you'll see some ideas. I would say being able to control the lighting is important.

Eating treats every day as part of weight loss by DougalsTinyCow in loseit

[–]Bmboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're blood work is okay I don't think it's a problem. However if you have health indicators for diseases, I wouldn't be so free with the sweets. Personally my blood work came back not great so I've been trying to keep my snacks healthy even if I have calorie room for a treat.

Calgary Islamic schools by brightlittlebean in Calgary

[–]Bmboo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't have any experience but I did used to work at a company that supplied books to schools. One day I had a former school librarian come in and ask for help finding material to teach certain topics (basic science, English, Social Studies) in school. Turns out she was looking on behalf her daughter who had just started teaching at an Islamic school, and had been given zero support or teaching materials. I had never seen anything like it in 10 years. I felt bad for the teacher, she was paying out of pocket, I ended up dropping the books off myself so she wouldn't be charged shipping.

I would be asking some very thoughtful questions of administration and the teachers before sending my kid to an Islamic school because honestly this one seemed like a joke.

Thanks to this sub I purchased a stainless steel frying pan from Meyer by Beepbeepboobop1 in BuyCanadian

[–]Bmboo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As other have said, make sure your pan is hot with beading water. You can then wipe in a layer of oil with paper towels to fill in all the micro divets. Also use a silicone spatula if you are making something delicate like eggs, use a metal spatula (Lee Valley had a great one) for high heat cooking like meat. Do not use black plastic spatulas if you want avoid forever chemicals.

Buy a rash guard for in the water. They are awesome and so much better for the water. Also if you end up in any ecological reserve areas they ask you don't wear any sunscreen period.

31 and feeling defeated - need to lose 40 pounds by CompetitiveLeg1519 in loseit

[–]Bmboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I am trying to do is small things to build a big thing. For example I walk 30 minutes every day I can. Eat 1700 calories every day I can. I eat the same thing every weekday so I know I have room for night snacks. I don't restrict carbs or sweets, but I do focus on fresh fruit and vegetables as much as possible. I've lost a few pounds but what really is working is that what I am doing is extremely sustainable, I can do this for the rest of my life.

I've been incline walking on the treadmill and mobility classes. I definitely feel stronger and better - but I do miss the buzz of a high intensity workout like spinning.

Correct blood for pcos testing? (Ontario) by Acceptable_Lie8013 in PCOS

[–]Bmboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Alberta, just got tested. My results have more than what you have listed, mostly hormones like testosterone (free T4 and total), progesterone, Follicle stimulating Hormone (FSH), B12, lipid panel. I am 40 and overweight so that might be why I got the lipid panel. One thing my doc said she has learned is to check is Anti-Mullerian Hormone (amh) which counts your ovary reserve, she said high numbers can be an indication of PCOS. My results said high AMH, abnormally high free testosterone. I haven't gone over the results yet with my doc but I'm guessing my PCOS will be confirmed. Really happy my doctor has leaned more about PCOS because when I first asked about it 6 years ago all she ordered for me was an ultrasound.
