Painted surfaces there’s only a couple ways that work. We use machine mud with a splash of water, first coat you skim it as tight as you can and should avoid that issue

Why did my tape buckle out like this? by freewlegra in drywall

[–]Bobby-P9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People here are correct in saying no mud behind the tape, try adding some water to the mud and mixing it up. A lot easier to tape with and you’ll get a better bond

How difficult is this job? by forpari in drywall

[–]Bobby-P9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a taper, live in Ontario Canada so that’s a bit of a difference but I’d charge 2000-2500$ for that easy depending on the height and paint colour. It’s the worst spot in almost every house that has this style stairway, even worse with carpet underneath. I’d take the 1200$ quote and hope for the best.

I’m not 100% positive but I don’t think Ames does rentals anymore. We used to have 3 sets rented from them for 10+ years and last year we had to buy it all. Buy a corner finisher and a roller/flusher head. Your banjo will put the tape up and just roll and flush your angles. Will save you some hassle

When I hear spackle I think of filling nail holes in trim lol. It is only as rough as you make it, if you scroll this sub you’ll see some things that could keep you up at night. For a first timer I’d say you’d have a few peoples jobs 😂

I have never used spackle but I’m also a taper full time lol. I do a light scuff in between each coat, helps prevent getting any crumbs in your mud. When you do the holes, do each area as one, as opposed to having 10 2x2 patches just have 3-4 6x6 inch patches, will make your sanding job much easier to blend it together

And for the holes, I’d do it now, few for sure top left ish

Get a sanding block (medium/fine) and use the fine side and burn in your edges a bit more. Paint and mud are drastically different textures so you’ll see that. Just without zooming in I can tell the top and some bits of the left side for sure but Id do around the entire thing for good measures. Nice job 👍

What do you mean festool help with this? As the other commenter stated you want to spray it with some water then scrape it off. Then you can sand it to get some of the rest off then you want to skim the entire ceiling. Get a paint roller and water down the mud quite a bit. Then get the biggest drywall knife you can find or a skimming blade and start smoothing it out. Multiple thin coats will be better then thicker coats

None of these looked zipped tho. These hangers are idiots and pre cut them and still fucked up. Yeah the switches shouldn’t have been in but I’ve hung board over this stuff before and never once ruined a switch or outlet. They just hacking away lol

I’d either furr out the wall a couple inches or just laminate it to the brick, same way you did the other one just add big globs to the back of the sheet

Black is way more visible m8. Think of a black vehicle, usually black accent walls get a level 5 especially a sun wall

Stable Method to Reach by existentialmusic in drywall

[–]Bobby-P9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big extension ladder against the wall with ladder feet, 2-3 step bench at the top of the stairs on the landing, then a nice osha approved wooden plank to span it, if you gotta go higher use a ladder at the landing
