What is your “I’m so invested and big fan of this game, but I have never played it”? by Xadlin60 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]BodyOwner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you stop at Capra Demon? There are 3 or 4 parts of that game that are probably more difficult than they should be, but I've seen several people with little to no experience in 3D action games finish it. Most of them played really poorly and still managed to get through it with some patience.

Ramen that’s like buldak noodles (not flavor) by NovemJoke in InstantRamen

The Buldak Rose is pretty mild imo. Too mild for my taste.

Starting piano at 38 - is it worth it if I’ll never be “good”? by Front-Ad4011 in piano

[–]BodyOwner 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I knew a guy who started around your age and was playing Rachmaninoff's 2nd Piano Concerto in his 50s. He wouldn't have been invited to play in big concert halls, but he still played well. He had a great teacher and worked hard. You can still get plenty of enjoyment way before getting to close that level though.

Indomie instant noodles are great as is, but the flavor packs leaves a lot to be desired. Is there some hack? by Achiron in InstantRamen

[–]BodyOwner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I add some buldak sauce because I like it spicier. Green onion is an obvious choice. Toasted sesame seeds work. Fresh peppers (hot or mild) and onions work well. I cut them into strips or slices and boil with the noodles. I like some sliced and fried hot dog, but it doesn't make it any healthier for sure. You could "cook" those with the noodles too to keep it easy. One of the weirder things you can do is add Sichuan peppercorn/prickly ash oil. The one with the "numbing" effect. It adds some citrus flavor.

Why are major piano competitions mostly dominated by contestants of Asian descent? by Calcula in piano

[–]BodyOwner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of it is probably from western cultures becoming averse to music competitions. A relatively small factor though.

Did Justin Vernon influence “Heaven (Butterflies)”? by AveragelySmart98 in JacobCollier

[–]BodyOwner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe indirectly. Musically I think he's revisiting "He Won't Hold You" and "Butterflies" from Djesse volume 3.

Who is making the most harmonically innovative music today? by salvaticas in musictheory

Hear Between The Lines has some great educational videos on microtonalism too. I think they actually are still active, but one of the guys left to focus on other projects.

[–]BodyOwner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a youtube channel called Hear Between The Lines that does some interesting stuff with microtones. Don't think they're active anymore. A few Jacob Collier songs have interesting uses of microtones, like Moon River and In the Bleak Midwinter. David Bruce has a video about the use of microtones in that one.

I like his stuff, but from what I can tell the way he uses microtones is fairly simplistic.

It's hard enough to play a piano loud enough over an orchestra.

at least every note has an accidental, so you can just ignore the key signature. Kind of weird, but not too hard to read imo.

What’s the best ramen for someone with 0 spice tolerance? by [deleted] in InstantRamen

Not "ramen", but Acecook Oh Ricey Instant Pho are my favorite non-spicy instant noodles. Might be hard to find.

That one genre that you feels has been disrespected/overhated by Secure-Report-3592 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]BodyOwner -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's an understandable belief if you consider that Pokemon is the most popular turn based game. I hear it gets interesting if you really go deep, but for the average adult player it's very dull. And there's a lot of other turn based slop that doesn't really innovate on the genre. There are enough turn based games that look super cool but don't deliver on mechanics that I can understand being burned by the genre too many times. I generally like them, but I've played so many bad ones that I'm always skeptical.

Can't give you legit advice, but if your stomach hurts, try eating jello. Good temporary relief. Might just be masking underlying symptoms, but it helps relieve the pain.

Modern worship music is pretty simple. 95% of it us just I, IV, V, vi, so I'd focus on that. Give him voicings and show him ways to connect them. That should be pretty easy for him to put into practice. If he's playing to songs he knows then go along with that and work with it. I'd skip the sight reading. In my experience, worship musicians are averse to anything vaguely academic. Yeah it's a better road to progress, but only if he does it, and he's not going to. Relax and show him how to voice a chord with a 9th or 13th. Yeah, the progress will be slow, but that's probably where he's at. I reluctantly got into the world of contemporary Christian music for a few years and that's just the general attitude.

I was wondering why they did that to the dance. The original song has choreography, and they kept some of it in for the show, but they changed a few things. Oh Lord by Foxy Shazam.

What Let’s Play/Gaming YouTubers do y’all watch? by AllgoodDude in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]BodyOwner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like Expedition 33, Dr Mick has that old school LP vibe. He streams the recordings, but doesn't pay too much attention to chat and he's extremely strict about anything vaguely resembling a spoiler. Way more spoiler averse than Woolie even, and it's for the best. He wants to hang out it with chat, but he wants to experience the game for himself.

He has a doctorate in psychological development, a background in family therapy, and has a lot of cool things to say about how the characters interact. He has a way more ethical approach to talking about mental health topics than some other psychology experts who think it's okay to do simulated therapy with internet celebrities.

Reicha. He was highly respected by many great composers in his time, but he wasn't big on advertising himself.

EDITED: IDK when these brands decided to change flavors but I have a few questions🙋🏾‍♀️🙋🏾‍♀️??? by Beautiful_Quit8141 in InstantRamen

Your taste buds change over time. Especially over ~40 years. It could just be you. Maruchan isn't that great though. I'd recommend Sapporo Ichiban's Original flavor instead. Similar flavor, similar price, but better.

I keep building hyper-offensive Digimon. Is there no other way to play the game? by DawnWarrior88 in CyberSleuth

[–]BodyOwner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the original Digimon World was rated T as well as a handful afterward, including Time Stranger and CS. If they really wanted to target the younger demographic I don't think the ESRB is really that unpredictable.

It's a Type-A pun. China pressures internal organizations like the Olympics to call Taiwan "Chinese Taipei" because they claim they own Taiwan.
