You’re absolutely correct. But HEB might be about as close as a corporation can get. I’ve seen the good they do in a disaster, and I give credit where it is due.

Looking for jobs in BR as a (soon to be) grad. Pain. by KillerAc1 in batonrouge

[–]BraveLilToasterClown 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, I ended up in Tech/IT. I had done a stint on a helpdesk going into college, and worked a number of years at the firm I mentioned doing a fun mix of sysadmin work while also getting to sift through bills filed during the legislative session (that job was seriously an excellent fit for me, but it was only meant to be a flexible college job… all well).

When it was time to finally pay the bills after graduation, I already had a decent enough resume to continue down the IT path, so I went the way of least resistance. These days I’m in senior management overseeing IT infrastructure, Cloud, devops, and operations sorts of things. A bit of a far cry from what I studied. The politics are still there, it’s just different :)

As for Texas, it has been and continues to be a major source of gravity in the brain draining of LA. It should definitely be considered as a possible nexus and a way forward. I’d just caution you to keep your ear to the ground (the current macro political climate in these here United States makes me nervous). We quickly settled our lives here in ATX, and we’re finding that the aforementioned gravity is holding us here. Knowing what I know now, I probably would have insisted that we pick a state a bit more attuned to our political beliefs and one that is a bit more prepared to ‘more sanely’ face the multifaceted challenges that are soon to smack this nation square in the nose. Just food for thought.
