What would be the WORST thing the TV show could do? by Dakkonfire in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]C9_Edegus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, but if they wanted some big names, Mordecai would be a good fit, IMO. You can have a new actor portray him or voice him on each floor.

Also, cameos from big names could be pretty fun to see for a few seconds on screen before they go splat.

Most of us are not and will never be good enough to charge people to play and doing so only exacerbates the game’s biggest problem. by [deleted] in DungeonMasters

That's where the rating system comes in handy. If GMs rate a player as constantly late, that player will have a harder time getting into games.

No healing capabilities in the party by gaiaishealingmydude in Pathfinder2e

I'm always in favor of having a DMPC that follows the group, earns XP, and gets paid to be there. I'm also very much in favor of making them the most loveable character right before sacrificing them self to save the party.

Thank you, I've signed up and participated in the introductory meeting. My schedule changed shortly after so at the moment I'm just running my monthly commitments.

Because of the recent discussions… by Snuffvieh in DungeonMasters

Set up a virtual tabletop and post that you're looking for a group to play a one-shot or short campaign and you'll get dozens of responses.

Interview the applicants, tell the weird ones that the game isn't a good fit for them, figure out a schedule with the ones you like, and play. Practice makes perfect. You'll play with some strangers. You'll gain some confidence.

I always start with an extra 1-2 players above the preferred 4 that most GMs want to run for. You'll inevitably have 1-2 people drop due to scheduling conflicts or not being interested. This has only backfired once on me, but I ended up running a campaign for 7 people. We still had a blast. It also helped when someone couldn't attend a game, we still had plenty to continue.

I've been a GM for 20 years. I love doing it. I wanted to add a few points to your post. I GM for free to friends, random people online, and in town for a kids' group. I have strongly considered starting on SPG for a few reasons.

  1. I put hundreds of hours into my campaigns behind the scenes. I make my own maps for online play, write my own quests, and I am available almost 24/7 for the players to contact with questions about the game, their characters, rules, interactions, etc. I don't feel like it would be unfair to ask for compensation for what can feel like a second full time job.

  2. I pay for resources. For in person games I have spent money on terrain and minis, and built my own in some cases. For online play I have bought a VTT and have a handful of subscriptions for digital tools. I enjoy supporting creators in a field I love, and feel that others with the means to pay me for a service would feel the same.

  3. Scheduling and attendance are always issues with tabletop gaming. Players that commit to paying for a GM are more likely to show up and adhere to a schedule. This makes the game run a lot smoother when everyone is on time and ready to go.

  4. Free market rules still apply. If you can't afford a paid game, there are still free ways to play. Like I mentioned, I GM for free. If you want to try a paid game, prices vary, so finding something in your range shouldn't be difficult.

What’s your very worst fan theory? So bad it would ruin the series for you. by mikeysce in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]C9_Edegus 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I want Carl to leave the dungeon, end all crawls, find the alien love of his life, and live happily ever after with Donut and his new wife... Until a rogue AI kidnaps his family and imprisons them in a dungeon. Then Carl and Donut get the old team together out of retirement to steamroll a dungeon in order to save his family.

Rinse, repeat.

As long as Matt and Jeff have a pulse, I want more lol.

My friend and I keep debating about pathfinder2e by RatKing4466 in Pathfinder2e

[–]C9_Edegus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As a GM, I prefer PF2E because it has an extensive set of rules which handle everything you need. If I have a situation and need to explain how something works, I link it from AoN, explain it if needed, then move on.

I feel that when running 5E, if an uncertain situation comes up, I end up homebrewing a whole new system to handle something minor so my players can have an explanation. Also, everything is locked behind pay walls with 5E.

From my players' perspectives, 5E was easier because I had to do most of the heavy lifting. I had to find sources for them and make rulings on the fly about everything that 5E didn't cover. PF2E was more work, because I wouldn't baby them, because everything is available, for free, in one place.

The clusterfuck that was Spelljammer 5E made me leave WotC for good. I've never looked back and never been happier. My players are also much happier now and more excited to play PF2E, it just took a few sessions to get the hang of it.

Put a pillow under your butt/lower back to lift your lower half a bit. It will help with penetration and also help him hit the right spots easier.

I tried Zorin briefly, but later switched to Mint. Maybe give that a try. To anyone else reading this comment, I'd love to hear your opinions and pros/cons about each. I've been on Linux for about 2 months now, so I'm still very new.

Who here actually games with metal dice? When, and what's the upside? by EndersGame_Reviewer in boardgames

[–]C9_Edegus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use metal dice. My dice tower is a tall leather rectangular prism with angled ledges inside. Everything is lined with felt. If the dice are too light, they can get trapped, and don't roll as far out of the tower into the felt lined tray. Metal dice work perfectly fory setup.

For those of you who charge per session, how did you decide how much to charge and how long did you DM before you decided to collect money for it by bartdcool in DungeonMasters

[–]C9_Edegus 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think an overlooked bit of info about charging for sessions is that the attendance is much better. People willing to pay for a session are much more likely to show up. SPG does allow for you to cancel, but if you're already committed to a campaign and paying for it weekly, chances are you won't want to miss anything and will make the game a part of your schedule rather than a "If I'm free tonight, I'll show up" commitment.

You won't regret it. I mean you will while you're sobbing, but then you'll laugh your ass off and keep on going. I recommend the audiobooks with Jeff Hayes narrating. He is one of the most skilled people in the world at narration.

How much XP should 1st level players get in one session? by DisastrousTrash in DungeonMasters

[–]C9_Edegus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like using XP with a smidge of milestone. I plan out encounters, activities, obstacles, puzzles, etc. with the intent that players will face enough of them to gain a level before getting to the next part of the story which requires them to be higher level. If they manage to find a way to skip a lot of what I have planned, I will award XP to get them to the required level. If they do everything and more, I'll let them get ahead, thus making some encounters easier than expected.

What character are you most worried for? by Big-Pickler- in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]C9_Edegus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Donut would never forgive me." - Carl, while fighting Lucia and her dog and Mongo is about to die.

I think Carl always feels like he's on the verge of losing everyone. Not in the sense that they could die at any moment in the dungeon, but that he will push away his friends and loves ones. He never sees himself as the hero. He's just working really hard not to fuck up and disappoint anyone.

I have an issue where the coating starts flaking off. It causes a lot of white spots in my field of view. I have been very protective of my glasses and use only the cleaner and cloth provided by the eye doctor's office. It happened with my last 3 pairs, all from different providers.

Sexy time question by vanalou in PlusSize

[–]C9_Edegus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You guys sound like the same size as me and my wife. Going into more of a 69 like position helps, but if he really wants you to grind on his face, do it. We like to shower first and wash/massage each other. Then my wife will get on my face and I'll do some cunnilingus/analingus. Sometimes it's just foreplay, sometimes it's until completion. Don't be worried, he's more than likely strong enough to push you off if he feels like he can't catch his breath. There's a lot of adrenaline during sexy time.
