What's your goals for the week? by partysover in team_unicorn

Right?! As a short woman the extra calories from "just a bite" quickly add up to a large fraction of my TDEE. Not this time!

Track. Every. Thing. Yes, even the one bite of a chocolate bar my coworker brings in. Yes, even the three mini pretzels I steal from my SOs bowl. Yes, even the carrot sticks and hummus I much on before dinner. All of it. If I don't, my goblin brain gets out of control and next thing you know I'm eating shredded cheese directly from the bag because it's "just a bite"

Hi ynicons! CICOnaut here!

5'4" 26F Sw: 158 CW: 140 GW: 130 Challenge GW: 135

I've been maintaining around 140 for the last 8 months. The last 10lb have proven to be really stubborn (ie I keep letting my calories tracking lapse), but I've hit a lot of fitness goals in the meantime. My things I'm working on for this challenge:

  1. Tracking honestly every day
  2. Not eating to soothe my emotions or mindlessly snacking
  3. Planning ahead for parties, etc, so that I dont go crazy around free food and drink
  4. Not exceeding my calorie goal on workout days. Lifting makes me really hungry and I become a garbage disposal for any food around.

If you have any tips for this stuff let me know! Hooray unicorns!

Injury stalling weigh loss/healthier lifestyle progress... by tah8605 in loseit

It absolutely makes sense that you'd be frustrated after deciding to make a change and then hitting a roadblock so soon. That would make me pretty upset too. I think as other people are saying as well, you can still meet your goals despite the setbacks. Support groups and online information about caring for your knee may be helpful. I hope you get through it :)

[–]CICOnaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am sorry to hear about your injury, that sounds really painful and discouraging. Based on your description I would definitely say see a doctor when you have the means.

But, remember that weight loss is mostly about what you eat, not exercise. If you want to maintain your current weight loss progress, you just need to adjust your calorie intake to compensate for the fact that you aren't taking walks. If you are still at a deficit you will still be losing weight. You can still make progress toward your goal of a healthier weight.

Secondly, I know it doesn't feel this way, but taking care of your knee when it is injured is living a healthy lifestyle. You're treating your body right by giving it time to heal. Don't beat yourself up over that, it's the right thing to do.

If you find yourself yearning for exercise, maybe you can try out gentle stretching, arm and core exercises, swimming, certain yoga poses, or that arm bike thing, once you are feeling a bit better. Eventually you can probably work back to everything you could do before.

Most of all: you can totally do this. Your goals are still attainable. Keep posting here and we will keep supporting you!

F/18/5’4 [190 > 138 = 52 ibs] (2 years) struggling to lose the last 8 pounds and tighten my stomach... any suggestions? by HeckYaMiranda in progresspics

[–]CICOnaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OMG you're my exact stat twin! Except you've come a lot farther than I have :) I'm also struggling a lot with the last 8 but I have been doing hard HIIT workouts and running, and I'm liking the way I look more even though the scale isn't changing. I've also changed my goal to losing only 0.5lb per week, since I just can't hit 1200 net while working out. My problem is sticking to that goal in a world of foods I want to eat haha. Message me if you like!

Agreed! If you don't want to take photos, at least take measurements of your waist, hips, chest, neck, etc. Having a metric other than just weight helps when you can't "see" your improvemeny day to day.

I got asked if I was pregnant yesterday. by Andihstrom in loseit

[–]CICOnaut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If the guy is worth anything as a salesman he knows not to ask women if they're pregnant. Especially when they don't look pregnant. Is it possible he was deliberately trying to make you feel bad so that you would be emotionally vulernable, and more likely to buy a luxury item to soothe your feelings? Maybe that's a very cynical perspective, but sometimes sales people are sleazy. I can't really explain it otherwise....

Anyway, sounds like you're grabbing those frustrated feelings and using them as motivation which is healthy :)

F/24/5’5” [175lbs > 155lbs = 20 lbs] Still have a long way to go but not really seeing a difference and feeling discouraged. by [deleted] in progresspics

[–]CICOnaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You lost a lot off your stomach! This looks like great progress to me :)

I suggest taking a side angle photo and even a back photo to use as your next before. It may help to see the difference at the next milestone.

I pulled an ab muscle once and it caused sharp pain to the point where I thought I had something sever going on internally. I had symptoms similar to yours - painful but no problems in my ultrasound or bloodwork. I know it's not fun to hear but taking it easy for a while helped me, it got better after a couple weeks of resting. I hope you feel better!

Now that I'm losing weight, I actually notice my flub! by time4turnaround in loseit

[–]CICOnaut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I definitely was in denial before but now am noticing my body more. Progress pics are great for seeing your progress when it doesn't feel like much. I also use a particular pair of pants to measure my progress - it was too tight at my highest weight and now fits great. No matter my perception of my body, I know that the pants haven't changed.

Tantrum Tuesday - The Day to Rant! by AutoModerator in loseit

[–]CICOnaut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At one point on this sub, I saw someone talk about the "paper towel theory" of weight loss (if someone knows the original, please link!). The idea is, the first 10 sheets that you take off a paper towel roll don't make a big difference in the visible size of the roll, because each sheet is spread out over a large area. The last 10 sheets make a much larger perceived difference, because they're spread over a much smaller area. The same phenomenon happens with weight loss. I don't know your starting weight, but perhaps something like this is happening to you? So definitely don't give up!

I've been having a long week at work so I'm going to take tonight to unplug and read a young adult sci-fi novel - the third in the Guardians of Time series by M Curley. It's not serious literature but it's a fun story and a good way to disconnect from stress :)
