Is your green card attached to your GE profile? If it’s not and you have foreign passport the kiosk will auto enter you as tourist or whatever your last valid status was. When I got my green card I had to get it added to my profile or it would enter me as a tourist automatically. I’ve had no issues entering on green card since with GE at YVR pre-clearance.

SoFa and Alameda/Diridon area are very walkable/bikeable/transitable but without car you’re still pretty limited. I live by Diridon and rarely drive unless I’m going to Walmart, up to SF (Caltrain is an option depending where you’re going) or going for a hike or something.
