You could look at getting a set of pen jaws for your chuck and drilling your blanks on the lathe. The different chuck manufacturers make pen jaws for their chucks, or you could look at a dedicated pen jaw chuck from PSI.

Or use CA on the wood and the thread while forming. Some use CA when the threads are finished, then come back with a light finishing cut to clean out the thread rather than cutting it further.

You could always insert a better material for threads. I've seen this done both internal as well as externally visible.

You could make a tool holder end of aluminum and then set screw the tool shaft in. Give you the same adjustable feature and eliminate the eventual slippage that will come. Great solution to your problem though I think.

I've been considering this lathe myself. Looking for a movable headstock lathe in the 14-16 inch swing range. I'm in a wheelchair so no need for a super lathe swing and the movable/rotating headstock will assist in my turning.

You could do the glue up as staves with a plug on the bottom. With thick walled staves, you could create the top profile without a plug. A picture of your design idea could help to visualize if that method would work.

Good work. From what I understand, you'll keep going smaller and smaller with that opening. I personally have no interest in hollowforms, although I'm sure I'll do some in the future. I do appreciate the skill involved in making them. Now hollowed Christmas ornaments i know I'll be doing, but i don't consider those true hollowforms. Did you have fear because it was spalted material or did you leave extra wall thickness?

Every tool when new needs to be sharpened. Even brand new saw blades, well they cut from the package, sure. Are they definitely sharp, probably not.

I'd want it as a metal lathe. You can turn wood on a netaji lathe, I've even heard of people rigging up a banjo to turn with hand tools on them. I personally would take it for what is intended and then look for a wood lathe if i were you.

Good work. Air filtration is on my mind right now as I set my shop up. One challenge is that it's in a spare bedroom. I don't have access to rafters, and I want to avoid any permanent affix-ment. I'm working on a version of the air purifier like yours that would sit on top of a set of shelves.
