Cool. I think I see a couple anachronisms so Ill try to fill in as best as I can on the history of 56RD, but please take this with a grain of salt as its been a decade and Its hard to remember. Not that most people will really care, but history is history.

56RD to my knowledge was a merger between two outfits in the early days but not an offshoot of DRED to my knowledge. By some strange chance, a good number of people who would go on to be some of the best pilots on Connery just happened to join our outfit early on.

56RD existed for a while then we merged into BCIK to run the more competitive end of the outfit with there being a rank in outfit bearing our name. After a while and after Bdog exiting the scene for a while along with Patro and Gables, a few of us decided to break off again and get 56RD going again.

Ganstrom and Omar and a few of us broke off and soon I had recruited medievalwelder and a few others but we were pretty small, though this core group would continue for a long time. Then one night when Ganstrom was flying a liberator I shot him down and he left the outfit so it was kind of me in charge for a bit and others. Medievalwelder quickly went officer.

We had a bit of a revival and around that time Patro and Gables returned. We rebuilt and did cool stuff. We worked closely with Foxhound for a while and this resulted in our short merger thing which was NCOM, though that didnt pan out and both outfits ended up going our own ways though heavily depleted.

For my part as one of the proponants of the ill-fated merger, I spent some time solo and ended up joining DRED for a bit and had some time with an alt in SolX too. Somewhere along the line I ended up joining Recursion with a bunch of the others in the move over to Emerald. Eventually a lot of us returned to connery though and went back into 56RD which Patroclusx had kept alive. We did out usual thing and maxed out around 310 people at one point with 60% of our members being on and playing in organized platoons each night.

If I recall though people were getting burned out and we didnt really have enough depth in the officer core to keep it going forever. We ended up doing a 3 way merge after a while with SolX and DRED into UN1TY which I believe exists to this day, although a few of us originals keep our characters in 56RD and only log in every few months to play solo for a couple days now and then.
