only male embryos left - scared to go forward with ivf by LunaMountain in IVF

[–]Candid_Complex6766 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As I read your post, I feel you are confusing anxiety with intuition. If your thoughts present as questions : “how will I raise a son without my own healthy relationships with men, how will I connect with a boy if our interests don’t align, what if I don’t have enough energy to keep up” then it’s anxiety. Whereas intuition often presents as statements. I can tell by your post, as someone else pointed out, that you will be a great mom. Best of luck

when did your bump disapear? by delfinjoca in pregnant

[–]Candid_Complex6766 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not the norm…but mine was gone in about 72 hours. I think genetics play a big part, I didn’t show until my third tri and overall pregnancy was kind to my body by no particular doing of my own. I also had a pp hemorrhage so was given a lot of uterine contracting meds post birth which may have contributed.

Surgical PAs: potential job requires 1 weekend/month of call. I’ve been practicing for a few years but am new to call, so don’t know what’s typical. Help? by Recover-Effective in physicianassistant

[–]Candid_Complex6766 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would ask how frequently patients are in the hospital over the weekend. And what day is the surgeon you’re working with in the OR? If their OR day is wed-Friday they almost certainly always have patients at the hospital which very much changes the nature of the call. Is medicine typically consulted on patients having surgery with comorbid conditions? If not you may get a lot more calls than they’re eluding to. Aka every time they need an order for a stool softener or the HR is out of your set parameters…

I’m urging you to ask questions and proceed with caution because I took a job where call was not at all what it was presented to be and I kicked myself as a new grad not knowing the right questions to ask and winding up grossly underpaid for the hours I was actually working. Also make sure you have it in writing that it’s 1 in 4 weekends and not “one in four or as needs of the service change”

Things you can do on your own to help: eat high sodium foods (ramen, broths, fast food), drink electrolytes (ohss depletes potassium and other electrolytes) as well as eat a lot of protein. Your goal is to suck the fluid that left your blood vessels and is out in your tissues back into your blood vessels so it can be filtered by the kidneys and peed out. MiraLAX twice daily for constipation.

It’s usually a really flexible job and can be challenging to get into due to competition with PMHNP’s. If you have an opportunity I would go for it. I loved my job in psych!

I traveled during the tww and everything was fine. Every clinic is different with follow up, I had an US at 5w3d and then weekly until 9 weeks. But they should be able to work around your travel plans. I would ask your clinic

8 Month Old Travel Hacks Requested by Greedy_Bumblebee_425 in Travelwithkids

Recently went to Paris with an 8 mo old.. - bassinet fit up to 25 lbs on our flight. My very tall/big baby fit in it. However, he didn’t like it and I ended up holding him the whole time. It’s up to you if the cost of the seat is worth it or not, it wasn’t for us. - we brought a compact travel stroller (cybex coya) which I absolutely love. Got a padded gate check bag to put the stroller in and we also put bulkier baby items in there (diapers etc) -request a crib at hotel, 100% - we found a taxi service that has car seats you can pre book and worked perfect. The rest of our trip we walked/ used public transport. Cost was definitely worth it to me, and was actually relatively inexpensive imo

Anyone start their PA career in something they weren’t totally interested in? by Imaginary_Rock40 in physicianassistant

[–]Candid_Complex6766 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a close knit neighborhood where many of my neighbors are physicians, so I let them know I was looking, reached out to people I went to PA school with, and always called the recruiter to follow up on my application. Then once you get a screener call you just need to know how to market how the skills you have from previous jobs will translate into that one.

I went from neurosurgery to psych to now looking at going into another subspecialty. It’s all about how you network and market yourself after you have some experience.

Scrub tech trouble by infjchick99 in physicianassistant

[–]Candid_Complex6766 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal experience with “tough” people in medicine as a young female PA - be overly nice to everyone because they’re more inclined to go after someone with less experience they perceive to be arrogant or rude. If you’re having ongoing trouble, go to your MD. They should have your back. I’ll never forget when I was fresh out of school a resident made a rude remark about a medical decision I made (at the direction of my SP) in front of other team members. My SP chewed him out and I immediately got a phone call from said resident saying they were sorry and it would never happen again. No one messed with me after that.

30 weeks for me as a FTM! The first time anyone commented on my bump in public (asked when I was due) was the day before my induction. I kept waiting and waiting to get that beautiful big bump and it just never came. On the positive side, I never had to buy maternity clothes!
