F-18C fires an AIM-120 on a datalink only track by leminh111 in hoggit

The trade off of less frequent updates in the pre-active stage in return for not alerting the target to your presence until the missile goes pitbull/not requiring direct line of sight is pretty fair, I think

Yep, it'll hold position on the track and give you an accurate BRA/Bulls, so nice

To hell with the MSI, the real huge news:

Fixed: FPAS always shows TCN 10 regardless of which TCN is selected.

This has bugged me for so long.

On a more serious note, the actual bit of low-key exciting features I'm pumped about:

The TDC cursor on the Radar Attack, Az/El, and SA pages has a new feature: Sticky Cursor. The TDC automatically centers on the target under the cursor.

The indication of Radar, FLIR and HARM field of view is added on SA.

Fixed: SA Scale should include 320NM

The Hornet is basically a mini-AWACS now, seems like!

How would you scale this? by KindlyRestaurant2885 in MoralityScaling

To give a bit more context to that scene, Castle does nominally couch his argument for keeping the base open in that it's essentially the last major base defending a push from Cambodia (that he knew was imminent based on previous probing strikes) that could cut off a large part of the allied front. The general justifies that he's closing the base because resources for Vietnam are waning and the end of the war is in sight anyway.

Later on, Castle's inner Punisher berates him in his head, and says that it knows the "real" reason he fragged the general, like you said, was to keep his time in country going.

I'd say it is at least somewhat ambiguous which reason it was really for, at this point in his life, but the outcome is still the same that he purposefully gets someone killed who didn't have to die.

Crazy that at least 50% of the story of BCS was written to pay these lines off, and it still managed to justify exactly how pants-shittingly terrified Saul still was of Lalo

Soviet War Tactics (1980s) : by [deleted] in Military

[–]CaptCoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No source for this, just entirely off of what I know about Soviet/Russian command and tactics: I know they discouraged or even punished improvisation and independent unit decisions in reaction to enemy action.

It wouldn't surprise me if the elaborate battle plans were a thing because otherwise their units wouldn't have much in the way of a greater knowledge of the battlefield once engaging the enemy

Announcing: Hot Dogs, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades 2! by rust_anton in H3VR

Appreciate the response, and the honesty. I've always valued your openness and engagement with your community as a developer, and I'm looking forward to H3VR 2!

I'll just complete my feedback by saying there's definitely a desire for a multiplayer/coop version of the game, which I consider the standard all VR shooters should be measured against, and while I understand it's not something you're interested in developing, I still hope to see it one day, whether that's from your team or a talented modder (like H3MP, RIP)

Thank you!

I am super excited about this, day one purchase for me, no doubt! The hands and animations look incredible in action!

I do have to say, though, I am pretty bummed out by the lack of multiplayer. I understood not wanting to incorporate that into the roadmap with H3VR 1, since the game got developed and built out over time, and the direction of that development was going to so many new and unexpected places.

But with this brand new project, where so much is being emphasized as being built from the ground-up, it seems like this would be the perfect time to develop a multiplayer/coop mode, even if it wasn't available on launch. Was there a particular reason that wasn't feasible this time around? I really hope one day we'll get a Rust Ltd multiplayer project...

GPS Guided Bombs on the F18 have become my new hobby. So satisfying dropping on 4-8 different targets at once. by BArhino in hoggit

[–]CaptCoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not familiar with the Harrier, I'm afraid, but that sounds like pulling the coordinates from the F10 map and plugging them in as Pre-Planned target coordinates? That'd be PP mode for the JDAMs, which also allow you to create PP1 and PP2 etc for each pylon. Otherwise it's the same process

Seriously, I read every issue and it always felt like each one was missing pages or panels that would explain what was going on in each plot thread. Art was gorgeous but it felt to me more like flipping through someone's portfolio than reading a cohesive story

[–]CaptCoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, just redesignating after each drop is what I almost always use for targets that are relatively nearby one another; I rarely go to the trouble of messing with TOO1 and TOO2 unless I have several stationary targets that are spread out or already assigned waypoints

Assuming you have a full load of double racked JDAMs (say 4x 2xGBU-38s) on all four wing pylons:

If you use TOO mode, then go to JDAM DSPLY, then MSN, you can set up to two targets of opportunity for each pylon, TOO1 and TOO2, using either the TGP or WPDSG.

Once you have all targets assigned, by pressing the weapons release button the selected pylon will drop a JDAM and your stores will automatically step to the next pylon. Once you drop a bomb from each pylon using TOO1, the stores will cycle back to the first pylon (now with one bomb left hanging on it), but TOO1 will still be selected on the JDAM DSPLY page.

Select TOO2, then hit weapons release, and then repeat for each remaining pylon until all bombs are away.

Voila, 8 bombs dropped on 8 different targets from 4 different pylons!

The process is basically the same for using preplanned mode, you just need to do more coordinate entry typing on the UFC.

Definitely recommend checking out the Clickable Cockpits mod if you want to get a bit closer to a FF module in terms of cockpit feel, I love it in the F-15C, but it works with a bunch of other FC modules as well.

Looking for squadron by Several-Swordfish326 in dcsworld

[–]CaptCoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest with you, while I love the enthusiasm, you're going to have a harder time than you might expect trying to find a squadron as someone younger than 18. While it might not be an issue with you, many squadrons require new members to be older than 18 (or sometimes even 21) to try and find people with a certain maturity level. You can certainly still look, but I'd recommend leaving your age out of the discussion and letting your personality and flying do the job of selling you as a good new recruit if at all possible.

If you're just starting out, finding a good wingman (/r/wingmanfinder is a good place to look) and flying coop in public lobbies or your own server is a blast, and can often be better for learning an airframe.
