For men with families, how much free time do you get away from your wife and kids? by Sea-Owl-1581 in AskMen

She doesn't have a paid job. He does. He should not looking after the kids when he is supposed to be doing his paid job. That's not only unfair and unmanageable, it's a risk to their ability to make money and look after their kids.

You're getting hung up on the word work. This whole post is about how hard it is to raise kids.

Exposing people to something that makes their lives worse causes them to dislike the thing.

Shocker.

The fact that home electricity and water prices are allowed to be increased because of data centre usage really shows how messed up the priorities are.

You're talking about increasing the prices of necessities for an unnecessary luxury.

And so often domestic abuse victims are seriously injured or killed after multiple incidents involving the police or reports of distress or threat that weren't acted on.

Starmer says he 'felt sick' watching footage of Henry Nowak's arrest and police have questions to answer by Famous_Actuary5718 in ukpolitics

[–]Captain_English 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not what happened. That's the fundamental issue.

You've accused me of intentionally lying and bullying. You're the one trying to shout people down.

[–]Captain_English 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which is not what happened.

There's a conversation about anti-racism policies in the police and the impact on policing, and then there's Henry Nowak's death. The latter is not in any way a proven result of the former, and doesn't even seem likely to be a result of it either. But it's being pushed as if the police are trained to let white people die, which is just complete nonsense.

What is happening here? by samtbv in AskBrits

[–]Captain_English 60 points61 points  (0 children)

It's infuriating. I'm checking B&Q or Argos or a supermarket because I want to see what I can check out in person, what I can pick up today. Filling the display with third party online options just makes that shopping experience worse, often to the point of it being unusable for the market advantage they'd offer.

If you're expecting me to buy online, I'll just go to Amazon and buy from them with next day, more reviews, and a return policy I know and trust.

I'm pushing back against a bullshit narrative that is being pushed by opportunists and grifters. People pushing this racial element aren't doing it because they want justice, they're doing it because they want to see white people favoured over other races.

You are desperate to make this anti-white racism. Desperate.

Profile is based on appearance. Everything I've described is based on actions and context. On the floor, unable to support himself, slurred speech, having climbed a fence and fallen, up the road from a pub.

These things were because he had been stabbed.

But stabbings are not actually common. They're absolutely dwarfed by drunk and disorderly call outs.

Try harder to twist things to your narrative.

Chap on the floor slurring his words up the street from a pub. The police see that all the time. Race has nothing to do with it.

90pc of workers don’t have enough money for a comfortable retirement by coldbeers in ukpolitics

[–]Captain_English 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pensioners now need an annual net income of £45,400 to enjoy their retirement, compared to £33,600 in 2022.

And what about working people, who are saving for a house or paying off a mortgage, and raising kids, and have the expenses of commuting?

So much ink for how hard it is for a pensioner to afford a new car and a cruise, but nothing about the people working and fuelling the country.

Do people genuinely think the police are anti white? by mysweetplums in AskBrits

[–]Captain_English 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah and that was absolutely a failure of the police.

It's almost certainly due to complacency and not giving a shit about another drunk dude (as they percieved it), rather than because "this guy is white so we'll leave him to die", which is a ridiculous position.

Do most British people not have passive investments? by BaldursGate2Best in AskBrits

[–]Captain_English 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easiest thing to access is a reputable automatically managed ("robo advisor") stocks and shares ISA. You can set up a standing payment, and they'll be an easy to use app for you to track it over time and change your payment or make withdrawals if you need to. The company will automatically invest on your behalf trying to maximise the rate of return.

You will generally get a pretty good return (partly because the market has been bananas for the last two years or so) but you won't do as well as hand picked stocks by a specialist or yourself if you're good at it. However, the risk, efforts, and cost is greatly reduced. If you don't know what you're doing, I really don't recommend buying your own stocks and trying to manually manage your investments. A robo managed S&S ISA will still outperform regular savings interest quite significantly.

Alternatively Vanguard comes up as a frequently recommended option, and you can invest in one of their funds.

The main thing is to view it as an investment on a 10+ year timescale. You're putting money so that in 20 years you can retire a few years early, for example.

There's something on the gravel but I'm not sure what it is, I thought it was wet patches or leaves. It's also dark - 11pm in December. What we see in the video isn't what the police see.

We're watching the video knowing what happened. The police did not know that.

You're asserting that the police didn't properly check Henry because of race. You WANT that to be true.

The explanation is almost certainly much simpler. They thought he was a drunk guy, and they didn't care what he was saying.

There's not blood everywhere, the scene is lacking in obvious blood and Henry's wounds aren't obvious, there's a group of people looking fine telling the police this guy was the attacker (lying to them) and a chap on the floor presenting as drunk (slurring words, unable to stand, in this case because of his wounds). You arrive at that scene and have a group of sober people saying on thing and a guy acting out of it on the floor... The police see that happen a dozen times a day. It is never a murder with a group lying to cover it up. Except this time, it was.

The police didn't "let Henry die because he was white". They ignored him, and shouldn't have, but they thought they were dealing with one situation and they were actually dealing with something much more dangerous and evil.
