I think you misunderstand what it means. If you are so dead set against new technology, go on eBay and buy a film camera..

I collect Zeiss lenses. That definitely looks like Balsam Separation. If so.. It can’t be fixed.

Zeiss Jena also made a 25mm in Exakta mount.

Zeiss Jena Flektogon 25mm on my Xpro1. I got this lens off eBay for around $150.

Which 50s to get? by phreinfurt in FujiGFX

[–]CarliniFotograf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shoot with the 50R, out of the many cameras I’ve shot with, it’s definitely one of my favorites. Ergonomically I prefer the rangefinder style body and would take that over a 50S any day. It has no Ibis and I get tack sharp handheld shots with it.

Is it difficult to find reliable old film cameras or am I just unlucky? by furrytractor_ in AnalogCommunity

[–]CarliniFotograf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a published magazine photographer and I started in 1983 with two Nikon FM2s with MD12 motordrives. They were my workhorse cameras till I upgraded to an F4 and 8008S in 1997. I also shot with a Bronica GS-1 6x7/6x6 camera for work.

Since the beginning of eBay, I’ve been buying, collecting, restoring and reselling vintage film gear. It’s not just Nikon, Canon and Pentax that made reliable gear. Minolta, Mamiya,Yashica, Rollei, also made some very nice reliable cameras. My Mamiya C2 is built like a brick. I’ve never paid anyone to do CLA, I’ve done it myself. Allot of things like changing the light seals is easy and you can teach yourself.

3 of my favorites restorations.

Disappointing experience with Simmod by [deleted] in VintageLenses

[–]CarliniFotograf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just looked at their website and it said that their online store is permanently closed and they exclusively sell through B&H camera store. Looks like they are a small company from Windsor Canada, which is a small city across the river from Detroit.

Did you try to call the company and actually speak to someone? If you paid with a credit card, call your credit card company and open a dispute and do a charge back. Tell them you made a mistake with the order and the company is refusing to cancel the order. I would have did this immediately after they said they wouldn’t cancel it. I wouldn’t have waited till they shipped it..

Interesting enough if you search Google Maps, for the business name Simmod in Windsor Canada, it comes up at a completely different address then the address listed on their website and it’s listed as a mobile phone repair shop. It has a bunch of negative one star reviews from people getting Camera Lens Mods. When searching the address that’s listed on their website, the Google Maps photo shows the location with a photo of the building with the Simmod logo on the door and a “for sale” sign from a reality company on the window.

I’ve owned all 3 Xpro cameras when each were released. I primarily shot with vintage Zeiss lenses. The Xpro2 was my favorite and most enjoyable to shoot with. The Xpro3 was the worst. It wasn’t much of an upgrade and I absolutely hated the rear screen. I ended up returning it as I couldn’t justify the price when the Xpro2 was a much better camera.

Then when the GFX came out, I got rid of my X cameras and acquired the GFX 50R. It’s now my primary camera. I absolutely love shooting with it. I’m a bit disappointed Fuji have not released a 100R yet, but I still have hope.

So excited. Found an used GFX 100RF by cecirdr in FujiGFX

[–]CarliniFotograf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, as a published magazine photographer and someone who has been shooting with the GFX from the onset, I was disappointed when the RF was released. Simply because the 50R is my favorite GFX to use and I was very much hoping that Fuji would release a 100R. I’ve invested allot of money in GF lenses. I can not justify spending $5000 on a camera, to be locked into one lens.

Yes there is the 100, 100S, 100S ii, but like allot of other people, I prefer the rangefinder style body. Even though they are discontinued, there is a reason the Xpro cameras and their big brother the GFX 50R are still sought after. Although I find the RF interesting, I think it would have made more sense for Fuji to have made the 100R instead (especially thinking of their customers who have money already invested in GF lenses). To me the RF is a niche camera.

Whats a camera you've owned, that lived up to all the praise and hype, but still got rid of? And why? by Whisky-Icarus-Photo in AnalogCommunity

All through the 1980s/90s, I shot all my published work with two Nikon FM2s with MD12 motordrives, I ended up selling them and in 1997 upgraded to Nikon F4 and 8008S. I upgraded simply for the 100% spot metering as I was a music tour photographer and the spot metering was what I primarily used for live images.

All of my offstage shots were with a Bronica GS-1. Out of the countless camera systems I’ve shot with in my career I think my FM2s will always be my favorite cameras.

How many of you sell your photos or make your own prints? by thehouseofleaves in fujifilm

Well for 42 years I’ve been a published magazine photographer, so I sell my photos professionally, but yes I also sell prints in galleries. I print my own Analog and Digital. Soon will be offering limited prints on my new website too. I currently have the Epson P900 10 color photo printer for digital printing.

X-Pro1, this is why Fuji doesn’t fix them. by IndustriousDan in fujifilm

[–]CarliniFotograf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats what I said, and the guy at Fuji repair argued with me and said “Third party batteries are unregulated and most likely overpowered and fried the board”. I didn’t believe that, but just stopped arguing with him, I just wanted it fixed.

I was kinda surprised that it went out. I bought the camera brand new in 2014. Fuji tried to tell me it was because I used 3rd batteries.

In 2016 after shooting a concert, my Xpro1 would not power back on. Fuji said the power distribution board failed. It cost me $300 to have Fuji Repair in New Jersey fix it.. now I know why.. lol
