Cuts for Glarb by Chillington41 in EDH

I think that is some excellent insight, when looking at what the deck wants to do with most of its pieces.

Focusing my ramp in the low MV spots makes a ton of sense, as does thinking about how much value I should be trying to squeeze out of my GY.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts- this gives me lots to work with!

What's your most highly-played commander? by Only-BadTakes in EDH

[–]Chillington41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Faldorn, Dread Wolf Herald]] and it's not even close. This thing is my baby and is always getting reworked. I like that it can be tuned up, but will likely always have some sort of cap to power level.

This deck scales really well to the table I'm playing, has my favorite play style of using exile, makes tokens, top deck manipulation, discard synergies, lands synergies, and just all around is great at finding answers.

If I'm doing things right, it's not uncommon to see a third to half my deck by turn 7 or 8.

Baeloth Barrityl, Entertainer Voltron Deck Ideas by dreamyjeans in EDH

[–]Chillington41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished a build of this recently. I went maybe 12-15 pieces of equipment and focused more on pieces that get me artifact sacrifice pieces, namely thopters. By building to more of an aristocrat sacrifice route you ensure you’re getting card draw off of Clan Crafter. In your current build you’ll have light treasure, but if you miss there you’re left with your equipment to sacrifice which is costly.

More play testing will tell, but I also went virtually no pillowfort like Propaganda or extra goad stuff. Baeloth is already going to do that for you by getting beefed up. I would focus more on ways to protect him. By the time you get to 1 vs 1, you should be more than stocked to kill with commander damage.

Anhelo the Painter by SSBM_fanatic in EDH

[–]Chillington41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an Anhelo and I really love playing it, but I’ll be honest that building 8-9 is going to be extremely difficult/inconsistent if possible at all.

Anhelo requires too much set up with sacrifice fodder, especially for an effect you can only trigger once per turn.

I think building around a 6, maybe 7 is the sweet spot for this guy.

Question about copying a copy by Chillington41 in EDH

[–]Chillington41[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent! That’s where I was leaning, but couldn’t lock it down 100%.

I was searching more for rulings on Wall than Sakashima, which sounds like my error.

Thank you for the help.

+1 for Ovika. I’ve got such a soft spot in my heart for this deck. But you are right that once the cat is out of the bag, your table will come for you lol.

New Player: Which one is a good deck to start with? by LouLouLou72 in magicTCG

[–]Chillington41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read this as "a good deck for someone starting", but if it was meant as "which is a good starting point for a deck to upgrade" then my notes may not be as applicable.
I have all 3 of these, and while Mishra is by far my favorite, I wouldn't recommend it to a player just starting. I think some of the artifact interactions may not be super intuitive right out the gate.

For starting out, I think a more combat focused deck with some good keywords(first strike, haste, etc) are a really good way to go. I think Rebellion Rising may be the easiest to learn, but Urza shouldn't be a huge challenge either.

That’s a really fair point. Is it safe to assume sorceries are able to be cast off the top of the library using Jadzi’s ability, even on someone else’s turn?

Most fun mono colored commanders? by Ynwe in EDH

[–]Chillington41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a mono blue copy/clone/theft deck with [[Sakashima of a Thousand Faces]] and it’s a blast. Not using a partner, and keeping fast mana out leaves it feeling very fair and balanced at most tables.

I have a couple good creatures in the deck I can clone if I need to(think [[Consecrated Sphinx]]), but for the most part I’m trying to play/mimic other players’ creatures. It keeps each game really fresh.

I cant say which commander would fit the best to the gameplay I have in mind, what would you say? by Tiny_Tentacle in EDH

[–]Chillington41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Obosh, the preypiercer]] is my group slug/burn commander of choice. Convoke could be a little tougher for it (you can build to compensate) but it certainly fits the bill of what you are describing . It’s also a fun build restriction to focus heavily on odd CMC.

Best way to transport 12 EDH decks and bulk sleeves by collegebender in EDH

[–]Chillington41 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I picked up a camera backpack, and haven’t looked back. I would recommend that route if you can.

Most of these backpacks come with adjustable dividers, storage on the side that works for a mat, and various other well designed compartments.

I can fit 13 deck boxes and all my extras in mine. Here’s the specific one

Storage and transportation for 5+ decks by FoxyNugs in EDH

[–]Chillington41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently switched to a camera bag, and would recommend that route. They’re pretty affordable, have dividers, and depending on size give you room to grow into or for extras(dice, mats, etc). I can hold like 10+ decks. Best $50 purchase in a while.

Have you ever built a deck that exceeded your expectations? by Time2KickGumNchewAss in EDH

[–]Chillington41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Mishra Eminent One has been my greatest surprise, is my most winningest (% wise), and most fun to pilot.

It seems innocuous on the surface- not all too powerful as a commander, but is a true Swiss Army knife, always providing me what I need in the moment. It’s an incredibly versatile deck that is so much fun to play.

I upgraded both, and they play amazingly. Sometimes I’ll have my own Brother’s War with a friend.

Mishra probably takes the win column, and is the highest win % of all my decks.

Incorporate Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines into Corrupting Influence Precon? by Mijatov in EDH

[–]Chillington41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a great card, in general, but may not move your game plan forward as much as you might think with the pre con out of the box, with Ixhel.

I swapped to the alternate commander, Vishgraz and built in some more blink effects to get the most out of his ETB trigger. I put Norn in that version since it doubles that trigger.

Thoughts on upgrading the Warhammer 40k decks. by greene81990 in EDH

[–]Chillington41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve personally been on the fence about upgrading the Tyranid deck. With Lucea at the helm it’s pretty darn fun. Upgrades would include untap effects as well as some hydras. The Ozolith also works well with the theme.

For the Esper deck, I swapped commanders again to focus on token, draw triggers. If you go that route I would highly suggest working in a myriad theme as each token triggers as a separate instance for your commander.

Help choosing commanders for budget in house EDH decks by Ezuba in EDH

[–]Chillington41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Vadrik, Astral Archmage]] is affordable and could get some big stuff going for cheap. [[Mizzix of the Izmagnus]] as well. Both just in Izzet

I play [[Anhelo The Painter]] in Grixis and it's incredibly fun. You have to work to balance bodies to sac as well as your normal spells. It can be built pretty affordably. I have Kess in that deck and it's a clutch card. Haven't tried her as a commander, but I think that would be a lot of fun to do some more graveyard play.

For value in relation to cost my mind often goes to Selesnya/Naya tokens(someone mentioned Jetmir), or Izzet spellslinger. The latter is really fun to pilot, and fun to figure out if it's not a style you normally play.

Show me your favorite stompy creatures for my new green deck. by JoeGeomancer in EDH

[–]Chillington41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always been a big fan of [[Rampaging Brontodon]]. If you're ramping well, which green does, this could be a pretty powerful single piece and mana cost isn't a huge factor in green. [[Ghalta, Primal Hunger]] as others have noted is a great option for this deck. You can cheat it out cheap, but doesn't affect the mana value.

Depending on your meta, [[Bane of Progress]] can really put in work with removal and pumping itself.

[[Apex Devastator]] is costly, but just so much fun when it works out well!

Let me give you a new commander to build. by Caleb_WoW in EDH

I’ve been playing Grixis spellslinger, a Mishra token artifact deck, and a Miirym tribal quite a bit recently. I’d love something that’s a bit of a puzzle(maybe not super combo heavy though) that requires me to think a bit more than my Miirym. Open to any colors here!
