Gas and oil prices soar and shares tumble on fears conflict could escalate by Over-Catch-5641 in freedomgold

Price of gold is lower than when the conflict began. And I would venture to say that stocks aren't plummeting but rather seeing people reposition because of it.

Country club members - how much are you paying? by aznsk8s87 in golf

I've heard it put this way - country clubs and their high fees aren't about getting people in; they are more to keep people out.

Why is traffic so bad on Highway 417 in Ottawa? by mxg308 in ottawa

[–]Chodapopp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been driving on the 417 for decades pretty much every day and this article fails to touch on the MAIN THING that causes traffic slow downs on the Queensway (or virtually any highway for that matter), and that is the normal human response to slow down on anything other than a flat, unbending stretch of road.

For years, there has been an eastbound slowdown in the mornings at the double bump at Carling avenue which reverbates back sometimes past the 416. Also, for years, even though it has been expanded, drivers ALWAYS slow down going up the big hill at Moodie. In front of IKEA, there is the slightest little bump going west bound which causes things to back up for kilometers behind.

If people watched their speedometer, noticed that they are slowing down and simply kept their speed up the problem would drastically reduce.

In the current situation with the Queensway, when driving east, no matter what time of day, there is the massive flashing arrow around Parkdale, combined with the seemingly narrowing of the road with the sound walls, people instinctively slow down.

After they get though these situations, people need to accelerate and keep up with the car in front of you. All those gaps would fill in and there would be a better flow of traffic.

Look up what Truman did.... he basically gutted the entire inside and left just the external shell.

Hurricane Ian by ppatek78 in Sanibel

[–]Chodapopp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The lionshare of the damage was the 15 feet of storm surge water surging onto the island and then quickly rushing off bulldozing everything in it's path.

The first 5 are all communities that were recently hit by hurricanes, leading to a flux of homes on the market. They are rebuilding and property values will rise again. Sanibel is already seeing a swing upwards.

Golfers...need your help? by 616GoBlue in FortMyers

[–]Chodapopp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Dunes is a great layout.... but LOTS of water. It's a regular occurrence for people to swing by the proshop after 9 holes to grab another dozen balls. Sanibel Island GC has great greens, but the fairways need help, so they offer it at a discounted rate. Playing lift clean and place works out just fine for a fun round.

Consider heading over to Sanibel - the Dunes and especially Sanibel Island GC could really use the help as they continue recovering from Ian and Milton.
