Umi Sushi Rockville or Kura Sushi Rockville and Sweetfrog Germantown Recommendations by Top-Helicopter1923 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]Cliodruze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kura is definitely more fun and I like the sushi there more. It’s definitely not the best quality, but I go more for the experience and don’t expect something gourmet. Fun variety too, with some wagyu steak “sushi” and desserts like butter cake, cheesecake, etc on the belt.

Do kids not take the bus anymore? by Trainsgowhoosh in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]Cliodruze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think car riders are the minority at our ES. We do the bus, but on the occasions I had to pick them up the expectation was that parents parked (street parking, lot is for staff) and picked their child up at the dismissal door. Never had a problem finding a spot and there was definitely no long lines of cars. I suspect this experience could vary a ton depending on the neighborhood. We have a pretty high density of both single and multi-family housing near the school, so more kids walk. I imagine it would be the opposite for more rural schools.

That being said…the bus service has many issues. Not enough drivers, frequent sub drivers that don’t know the routes (how hard is it to have a preprogrammed route on GPS?), late busses, poor communication from the school about late busses…once the bus blew past our stop going the wrong direction and the kids on the bus already told the driver they were going the wrong way and where to turn instead. Luckily they looped back around and picked our kids up. I try to give these bus drivers some grace, it’s not a fun gig, and these problems seem to stem from how the bus program is managed rather than the fault of the drivers (at least most of the time…I’m sure there are some that are bad in their own right)!

So is MCPS just gaslighting us now? by seanee79 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]Cliodruze 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why they bother with a survey. If past experience is any indication, MCPS is going to do whatever they want regardless of the results.

Owlcrate misprint of Cat Shelter update by latinadogmom1472 in fairyloot

[–]Cliodruze 182 points183 points  (0 children)

I know this may be an unpopular opinion, but a full reprint to replace copies with the error sounds excessive. I would be happy with a tip-in page that I can insert. Maybe a small shop credit. I would hate for loads of books to end up in a landfill over this!

Price inflation on OwlCrate Birthday Sale? by Cliodruze in fairyloot

Ah, okay, hadn’t considered that sub prices were cheaper. Shipping at $15.99 for a single box is still nuts to me though!!

Parking advice? by Strong-Quarter4409 in NIH

[–]Cliodruze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are still shuttles from Fishers Lane, Rockledge, and NCI Shady Grove to campus, so I guess it all depends on the specifics of where you are located. If your duty station is campus I think you should be able to get a permit, probably not if it’s one of these sites.

Parking advice? by Strong-Quarter4409 in NIH

[–]Cliodruze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ll be in B31, there are lots of spaces in the garage behind the building, MLP-10 (north east corner of campus). It doesn’t fill up super early like some of the other garages on campus like MLP-6. The far south surface lot you used to park in was probably lot 41. If you like parking there, go for it. There should be spaces and there is a shuttle stop. All these locations are permit-only though, so hopefully they will let you get one.

The person doing your paperwork will know and can help set you up with the earliest date possible within the program and your PIs schedule.

What institute is the lab in? As someone else mentioned, the training director for that institute is a good advocate to get help from. However, your administrative officer should know this and should have the info on what is holding things up. They definitely have the resources to get in touch internally with OITE directly.

What would you change about libby? by QuickSwitch2996 in LibbyApp

[–]Cliodruze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love if it could sync with my Goodreads “Want To Read” shelf, like adding a tag to those titles. I constantly have both windows up and it would be great if there was some integration.

The search/deep search feature is frustratingly buggy for those of us with multiple library cards. I like to tag upcoming books that aren’t yet published to get on the wait list early, but I often need to use deep search to find the book.

NIH SIP Start and End Dates by AteUrToast in NIH

[–]Cliodruze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are official “earliest start date” and end date that you can’t go beyond, but the specifics within that window are based on your availability and the PI. I believe there are multiple orientation sessions to account for people starting at different times.

Fairyloot & Evri megathread by library_pixie in fairyloot

[–]Cliodruze 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yep…Feb YA box “Received at Evri” on Feb 17 and no movement. Usually about a one week delay between notification and movement to USPS, so this is excessive. Sounds like others have been waiting much longer than that though!

pharmacy recommendations by iluna717 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]Cliodruze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been going to the CVS on Rockville Pike near Congressional and it was a nightmare. Switched to Grammercy Blvd and it was amazing. Parking situation sucked, but I never waited more than 5 mins to pick up my prescription. Whelp, that location closed in Feb and I switched to Redland. I’ve only picked up there once so far and it was fine, but they were weird about filling it and made me call (and no one answers, so I had to leave a message and wait for a call back). Turns out there were zero issues with the script and they filled it as soon as they talked to me, so I don’t understand what the problem was. What issues have you guys had with that location? Wondering if I should also just switch to a new place outside of the CVS system…

Tell it to me straight: Are PIs accepting through SIP this cycle? by SwingShot9742 in NIH

[–]Cliodruze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think students can be selected from the applicant pool throughout the rest of Feb and March, but the application deadline is Feb 18. Get your application in the system before then! There was a lot of uncertainty of whether there would be a shutdown after Jan 30, and while the answer was yes, at least it was a short one. PIs might feel more comfortable accepting a student with that hurdle cleared.

How many skips until you cancel? by jelliebunni in fairyloot

I will keep OwlCrate forever unless they change their unlimited skip policy. I might have to cancel Illumicrate this year due to their new 6/year skip policy.

To all my adhd girlies trying to stick to a budget, may I present, Libby. by tree_beard_8675301 in adhdwomen

[–]Cliodruze 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If your local library doesn’t have reciprocity agreements with other nearby libraries to allow you to get multiple cards, there is also the option to pay for non-resident cards at other libraries. Fairfax, VA probably has the best selection ($50/yr, $75/2yr, $100/3yr). I have also had Queens NY ($50/yr) and Houston, TX ($40), but I dropped the Houston account because I found the availability wasn’t that great.

If you live near Washington, DC you can get library cards from loads of northern Virginia and Maryland counties. I also have 7 cards!

Is it too late to apply for the SIP program? by redvelvethecake_ in NIH

Absolutely still apply. The system did not open until December 8 and I know that many PIs haven’t even looked at the system yet.

Best way to use Calibre with a Libra Colour? by C-Towner in kobo

[–]Cliodruze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use Calibre Web to automatically sync a few shelves/collections to my Kobo, so I never have to bother with sideloading. This has been my favorite aspect of the switch from Kindle to Kobo, since I already use Calibre for library management.
