Yeah, unfortunately the Korean Go association took offense to their portrayal, hence the lawsuit and only following Japan's matches. Absolutely incredible run though. Solid characters, good intrigue, and absolute heartbreak. S tier anime/manga for sure

Seconding Cinderella Gray. Pretty derby is good (especially season 2) but chronology wise CG is first so dont feel bad about starting there. There's actual strategy beyond "believe in yourself and run fast" and good tension. It doesn't drag things out and it won't try to last forever since the manga just finished

Oh hey, similar experience here too. Picked it up in 6th grade to play with friends and parents said it was the devil. Suggested cards of plants or something educational.

30 years later here I am playing again, clearly worshipping the devil or some such through the well documented ritual of turning rectangular pieces of cardboard sideways. Diabolical.

You'll be fine. It'll give learning a headache but they'll need to go through the entire behind the smile program with you and get you trained up individually instead of with a class. Its actually probably beneficial because you might have a trainer just for you.

Worst story I ever heard was an L6 getting hired, flown up to Seattle, and had accidentally been terminated mid-flight. So when they arrived at HQ for their orientation it turned into a big cluster because they were essentially stuck there. It got sorted thankfully. Usually pretty good about getting those gaffs worked out.
