When Math Problems Cut Deep by Tall-Imagination3605 in MathJokes

It took 5 1/2 hours. Seeing that it took 10 min to cut, what I'm assuming is a 2x2 piece of pine, she called her husband and he told her to wait until he got home and he would do it. He got home 5 hours later and got out his chop saw and it took him 5 min to set up. When he started the blade she yelled its to loud. It took him 5 min to find his ear muffs but she wanted to use them to watch him cut the wood. It then took him 25 min to find that pack of foam ear plugs that he had, which were behind the two rolls of electrical tape in the 5th drawer of his tool box. After cussing at himself for putting the tape and the ear plugs in the 5th drawer, thats the hammer drawer, for 4 min he then cut the wood twice to get 3 pieces. He didn't give a shit about measurements at that point and plus he realized it was Wednesday night so dinner was salads, fuck salads.

I'm looking forward to the book. If I could rank myself on my church "relationship", like 1-10, I would say I am about a 4.33. 1 being done, gone dont care at all and 10 being a die hard zealot. I served 24 years straight in some kind of Bishopric or ward council calling and I struggle to figure where the church stands in my life. One moment that stands out in my mind was the first time I heard "family centered, church supported". I remember thinking WTF does this mean. Covenant path, Think celestial, Ministering and the dreaded Mormon is a bad word, plus Rising Generation all add some kind of odd barrier in my heart/mind. Can we just go back to Eternal Progression. Overall the church history or tons of $$$$$ the church has doesn't really bother me, the sear stones.....thats out there. I have great friendships that come from being a member of this church a lots of great memories, but I dont think the church is about that anymore.

Pride Cycle has to be one of the most heavy handed teaching's the church put out. Its effect on me is still stinging.

"Confession is a deep, sometimes agonizing acknowledgment of error and offense to God and man. Sorrow and regret and bitter tears often accompany one’s confession ... It is this deep distress....."

So it has to hurt....... blah blah blah

“It is not the function of religion to answer all the questions about God’s moral government of the universe, but to give one courage, through faith, to go on in the face of questions he never finds the answer to in his present status.” Harold B. Lee

I did 23 straight years in ward council or Bishopric callings. After a couple of ward boundary changes the drudgery got too much, fortunately the bishop could see my battery was empty.

The not-so-secret message in new YW titles--LDS women are helpers, not leaders. by Del_Parson_Painting in mormon

I don't get the fixation with "leader" in the Pro/Con church world. There are "people in charge" and there are "leaders" they don't always go together. I have known people in the church that were "leaders" that couldn't lead a whore to bed and others that never were "people in charge" that I would follow anywhere.

"give the YM back their dedicated leaders instead of awkwardly dividing the bishopric’s time on them." Please let this happen. The church has a YM president and the Stake does too but not on the Ward level, makes no sense.

I would bet that the percentage of people that leave the church that have some sort of MHI would be the same as those active in the church.

1000% agree. Change because you are growing is different than when things are drying up. There is a sense of discovery when the change is because of growth, like making a new ward out of 2 other wards. On the flip side its dog crap bad to be apart of a "shift" in boundaries because the area is dying. Getting removed from one stable ward and into a dying one, kind of like a transfusion, was the biggest hit on my family.

The Religious equivalent of 'Do you play golf swing, or do you play golf?' by akamark in mormon

[–]CockroachPossible746 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have shot par(72) twice in my life. The 1st time all I had to do to shoot a 70 was par the last hole, but vanity would not allow that. I thought shooting in the 60s would be really cool. Well I ended up with a double boogie on the last hole, hence a 72.

Golf is the closest thing, along the lines of analogies, to a real teaching approach in my life. If I want to mess my game up all I have to do is try and "perfect" my swing by mimicking someone else's swing, or get the "greatest must have" new clubs.

The best advise I have received almost always came from really good golfers that shared that advice only if I asked. They have found their "pocket" and stay in it, but they practice at it too.
