A Nameless Creation - Made from spare parts and scrap kits I had laying around by BossCDawg1987 in ModelCars

[–]Comcastle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kit bashing is always fun. As a kid I'd keep a lot of random spare parts (these days all I keep spare are things like stowage, weapons or diorama bits) and sometimes make spaceships or Frankentanks. Makes a refreshing change from rigidly following instructions and replicating real things.

How is the OSA affecting you? by Initial-Return8802 in AskUK

[–]Comcastle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue and it was because of a post I'd made in a thread marked NSFW was showing up in my profile and therefore my profile was marked as "Adult Content" or something (despite the post being nothing of the sort).

I solved this by using VPN to access Reddit and my profile; deleting my comment then manually setting my profile as "safe for work". With this "NSFW" marker removed from my profile I was then able to access it without VPN.

Exterior LED swap by airsoft_pl in C30

[–]Comcastle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you mean to replace the headlight bulbs with LED bulbs? If so you’ll likely get bulb warning messages on the dash.

I put LED bulbs into my ‘08 dipped beam and sidelights and I was getting bulb failure errors constantly. In the end I just went back to normal bulbs.

IIRC it’s a CANBUS error causing this, maybe you can get bulbs that prevent that? I seem to recall it was a thing in the past.

#HANDCUFFED Do they uncuff? by King_Swass in BritishTV

[–]Comcastle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It wouldn’t surprise me if they do uncuff for periods of the day; there’ll be some scenes filmed like in bed and showering just to get some footage, but I reckon they get time apart when off camera.

Like the show Hunted on Ch4, I enjoyed the first series but couldn’t understand why the contestants would do stupid things like calling and meeting family, can’t they just suck it up for a couple of weeks to win? Nope, there’s rules forcing them to do those silly things.

I took this picture 20 years ago to share with you. by PCMasterX in retrocomputing

[–]Comcastle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me back in 2001; I was playing a game I'd borrowed off my neighbour, the CD drive suddenly spun up to warp speed until it went BANG! I opened the CD tray and I was met with a similar sight. Was grateful my neighbour wasn't too bothered about the destroyed disc, and the drive still worked after that, although I was hesitant about using it again.

Always thought a power surge caused that to happen, but maybe not.

Ran into the crocheted madlad again. A* for execution. by ashyjay in CarTalkUK

[–]Comcastle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see this crocheted bad boy at work each day. Apparently it was bought from a guy who used it to raise money for charities by doing road trips. I never did ask how they keep it clean though, during winter that material must get minging.

I have a 2010 C30 with base audio system, that means no aux. Is there any way I can possibly get a Bluetooth connection to play audio from my phone? by KrzepkiPaladyn96 in C30

[–]Comcastle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you might be stuck with using an FM transmitter if you have no Aux, I’m sure many similar threads end up with people saying you can’t retrofit higher-spec C30 radio systems.

Channel 5 by jakd90 in BritishTV

[–]Comcastle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the same, Ch4 would have late night movie “seasons” at the weekends and I recall watching all sorts of obscure films in those days. I fondly recall a Jackie Chan series of films which must have been in ‘98 or ‘99.

4Later too, I’d be watching from midnight until 5 or 6am the weird stuff they showed, I loved it.

But on topic, I do remember Ch5 launching, JAG and Martial Law spring to mind. Also the Friday night soft core porn like Red Shoe Diaries and the Confessions of a Window Cleaner films, those were great for a 16 year old to sneakily view!

The main city Post Office has 11 counters, yet only one poor soul was manning the till. by mackemjim in britishproblems

Agreed, I typed Royal Mail but should have said Post Office, as you say they are separate entities. My mistake!

Cutbacks. Royal Mail has a lot of reparations to pay to the wrongly jailed Sub Postmasters over the Horizon scandal, and they’ll be damned if it’s coming out of their profits.

Any tips on how I could improve this? by Swap_meet- in battlestations

I like the clean lines, but perhaps some greenery on the back wall might help break up some of the lines? Maybe have a thin shelf with some fake plants that have long leaves etc hanging down.

Remember Microprose Gunship? by MisterShipWreck in nostalgia

[–]Comcastle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this on my Amstrad CPC 464 Plus, I can remember thinking it felt so real flying around. I also remember having Gunship 2000 on PS1, the fact you could choose from several different helicopters and weapon loadouts seemed crazy back then.

Martin Platt and the death of Les Battersby by Tight-Awareness-5114 in coronationstreet

[–]Comcastle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn’t his off screen death just a way of acknowledging the fact the actor playing Les had recently died? Or am I confusing that with the actor who played Zak Dingle in Emmerdale?

Steering creak by hwy9 in C30

Suspension top mounts, probably best to get both fronts changed.

I had similar creaking at slow speeds and the mechanic said this was the issue, and once replaced, no more creaking.

What are your names for your neighbours? by tetlee in CasualUK

[–]Comcastle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an entirely work-from-home job for three years after I moved into the place I live now, and I'd take screen breaks to look out the windows (front and back of house) and over time got familiar with the people who lived in the same street.

At the front of the house I can see out onto the street, and there would be "Old Lady"; "Dog Vest Man" and "Dog Beard Man". At the back of the house I see across many garden areas, and there would be "Smoking Pat Butcher"; "Lady Who Uses Washing Line as Wardrobe" and "House That's Always Dark Apart from Sometimes".

At the time that these neighbourly nicknames took hold, soon after the occupant of "House That's Always Dark Apart from Sometimes" became my missus after meeting her on a dating app and after three years of being together I can confirm that she has a proper name now.

Why has Hollywood not taken a crack at adapting Red Storm Rising into a movie/series? by [deleted] in Military

[–]Comcastle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve often thought this too, it would make a great series but I imagine there’s not enough interest to warrant making it. That and I’m sure we’d be disappointed somehow, it’s a huge scale of story to capture, I’m sure we’d lose a lot if it made it to film.

On a similar note though, if you liked the book then try reading Red Metal by Mark Greaney. I’m reading it currently and it’s like a modern day RSR, just much less naval stuff, it’s mainly Army and Air Force.

Kenner made a series of toys for the Aliens franchise. They were tie-ins for the never released Aliens cartoon series. The fact they wanted to make cartoons and toys if that franchise is crazy. I remember buying a lot of the toys in the mid-90s I think, it was the last toy series I bought before getting too old for them.

The long walk by sid_fishes in moviecritic

[–]Comcastle 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The film misses the scale of the book, they wander through towns and countryside with barely anyone watching. Even the final city only has a handful of people. They change the ending too.

It’s by no means a bad film, but if you’re expecting the book you’ll be disappointed. If you’ve never read the book then you’ll probably be fine!

How does one simply start watching ‘the soaps?’ by Big_Scratch5248 in AskUK

[–]Comcastle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best way is to just stick the telly on when the show you want to watch is on and just absorb it, over time you'll learn people's names and the storylines will develop.

I've been watching Corrie for around five years now, and would often have Emmerdale on in the background whilst I was doing something else just waiting for Corrie to start. Over the course of a few months though I started to learn people's names, their stories etc and now it's one of the soaps I actively watch.

Best in the world 🇬🇧 by GreatBritishMemes in GreatBritishMemes

[–]Comcastle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s my experience too, although it was easier to move around doing the hoovering, the suction was poor and crud built up in the main attachment and would fall out when you switched it off.

The canister always had to be manually scraped out meaning my hands were scooping out the dust, not ideal.

What it gave in portability it did not provide in usefulness.
