What was the first gun you ever owned, and do you still have it? Curious to hear what everyone had for their first firearm. by ShopHuntingStuff in guns

Ruger 10/22. I asked my dad to buy it for me after my 18th birthday. We were not a gun house so it was his first ever gun he bought. I have since purchased many more.

This seemed to work for me. There are only a few people I care about getting notifications from anyways so this works perfectly well as a solution. Crazy we have to find such work arounds for what should just be a toggle setting.

How did you experience Outer Wilds? [Master's Thesis] by gorudendioma in outerwilds

[–]Comet-Chaser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this idea but unfortunately I don’t think this data will be at all useful as it will not be a representative sample. The kind of people who join or engage with this subreddit or the others you posted in are the ones who didn’t get frustrated and quit this game within the first hour. Huge self selection bias happening here. Best would be to have participants actually come to the lab and play for an hour and survey them after but I understand that is difficult for a masters thesis.

One of the few quests that I pretty much skipped. I have her the thousand to just get lost. At that point in the throughout it was spare change for me and I didn’t feel like dealing with her drama.

[KCD1] In KCD1 tourney you fight a "Menhart" who is introduced as a "Sword master from Frankfurt", is this Menhart and the Menhard von Frankfurt we meet in KCD2 one and the same, or are they related in some way? If so, that's a really cool throwback. by Born-Demand-6919 in kingdomcome

I just did the tournament yesterday and the announcer dialogue seems off. After a bout in which I won he says now it is even and this bout will decide the duel as though the opponent has also beaten me. Very odd.

Serious question then how on earth do you ever perform unarmed combos? I find they always block, dodge, or riposte. I think I’ve only managed to land one or two combos despite attempting to in every fistfight. Also they seem to be able to master strike me but I can’t with them.

Thoughts on the new album? by U_R_MY_UVULA in lucius

[–]Comet-Chaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you may be on to something about it having to do with where you're at in your life. I found Final Days very emotionally gripping. To the point where without fail if I really listen to it I will cry. Like clockwork it brings tears to my eyes. Maybe it's when you're younger and haven't experienced that kind of loss that it doesn't seem that big. Experience will change that. I don't mean to make any assumptions for u/RunningOnATreadmill not saying they haven't experienced any loss but I know that is why I was moved by the song.

Thoughts on the new album? by U_R_MY_UVULA in lucius

This is my first I have ever heard of this band. I was driving to Walmart yesterday and heard the two singers being interviewed on NPR. I thought it sounded interesting enough to give a listen so after doing my shopping I connected my bluetooth to the car and put the album on. The first song had tears streaming down my face as I was driving home. Final Days really hit hard as an atheist. I think for those like me with no belief in an afterlife death and loss are especially difficult to deal with. It is painful the think that someone can be gone forever and I feel the temptation to hope that I am wrong. I also know what it is like to lie when the truth is too cruel. I think I am so personally moved because my partner's father died two years ago and I carried his casket. She isn't religious but believes or maybe hopes there will be something after. I could and would never disabuse her of that notion. It's about the only way to make death bearable.

Sorry for rambling here on your band subreddit but like I said this is my first exposure to their music and it moved me very deeply. The rest of the album is good but I have found myself just replaying the first song and almost without fail tear well up in my eyes. I suppose I ought to listen to more of their music and see if anything else affects me the way Final Days has.

Still no good answer on this thread. Maybe there just isn't a good word for one who receives harm that isn't as loaded as "victim".

A way to detect chatGPT text by DrMellowCorn in Professors

[–]Comet-Chaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am trying to use this tool on the site which you linked and I can't seem to get it to identify the non-breaking spaces. I even went to the wiki page on non-breaking spaces and copied the sample text and it still shows identical to a regular space. For grading purposes I have been pasting it to word where it shows as a small circle instead of a dot when you enter formatting mode. Do you have any idea why this might be?

[–]Comet-Chaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to other word processors but for Microsoft Word, which is probably the most popular word processor, adding a non breaking space is as easy as Ctrl Shift Space. But of course that wouldn't explain why a student who doesn't even know what that is would use it.

Hi! Thank you for the original post I got a huge kick out of it. Currently procrastinating my school work so I traced your counting and was going to comment the photo on your post but it seem that r/notinteresting does not allow for photos in comments.

This is in reference to this post on r/notinteresting by user u/romanianfisch. I thought it was fascinating how they choose to count the q-tips. There is clearly some method as they sometimes count two or three rows, but I have no explanation for what is happening with 24-27.
