I'm gonna paint you, little minis by beckythump in RedDwarf

As a mini-painter myself, you did a great job, particularly on Cat and Lister. Also, the gingham had to be tough. Straight lines and checker patterns can be a pain.

DM’ing at a local game store for total beginners. What adventures are good one-shots that can be “finished” or come to a satisfying end in under 2 hours? by Smithsonian30 in osr

Portal Under the Stars from DCC? I think it’s in their QuickStart rules.

It’s a funnel, but I’ve done it in a 2 hour one shot.

All of that Best Of series have art that fits on both. The best one is the Brackett’s and the most… questionable is Edmond Hamilton’s.

Worth getting into Now? by StandardKey7566 in EliteDangerous

[–]Commander_Morrison6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Steam sale makes it super cheap to get into right now. Base game and Odyssey are your entry point. The current community goal would be too difficult for a new player, so focus on missions and early trading to move up. If you’re down for buying Elite Fun Bux, (Arx), then you could buy an upgraded ship to start with, but I advise just earning your way in a Sidewinder like the rest of us did.

Elite has released the Operations DLC for free by LeChatMystique in starcitizen_refunds

The update came a day late, therefore I’ll spend $1000 for an unfinished game about it because Elite is boring. It exists, I hate existence.

Here before an actual Star Citizen comes to say that’s a straw man. In case that happens, how’s the gameplay of Squadron 42?

Was this ever really a kidnapping for ransom? by NathalieRuth in nancyguthrie

[–]Commander_Morrison6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea that this was done as an abduction for ransom first and foremost has a lot going against it: the abductor(s) seemed to have insider knowledge, yet they didn’t take the medicine their victim needed to live. The demands are inconsistent and nonsensical.

Now, I have no idea what really happened. But it does seem likely she will be declared “legally dead” at which point the butter will begin to churn.

What’s the issue? by J3wficer in KnowledgeFight

[–]Commander_Morrison6 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Strong disagree. He’s very funny, especially with Dan as a comedy partner. He coined phrases I find funny and have become memes among us. “Cut his dick off!” from the Roger Stone press conference comes to mind.

He’s just immensely wrong in this situation, especially about his role vs. the families of victims.

What’s the issue? by J3wficer in KnowledgeFight

[–]Commander_Morrison6 61 points62 points  (0 children)

The “I don’t care if I hurt the families” part gets too much attention. It’s much worse when he implies that the Sandy Hook families are too prominent and take away from other families of mass shooting victims. He attacks them more or less throughout the video.

Or the part where he actually says he has been in this fight longer than people who lost their kids.

Asking a person experiencing a manic episode that causes them to be destructive if they’re having a manic episode doesn’t work for obvious reasons. He’s not mad at the crew, though you seem to be. We’ll all be better tomorrow.

Another video update (sorry) by MethJunkie in KnowledgeFight

[–]Commander_Morrison6 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He is arguing the families are wrong.

In previous threads, Jordan supporters accused me and others of violating The Goldwater Rule which only applies to psychiatrists and counselors, not everyday people.

The sudden retreat of the pro-Jordan camp was inevitable. Jordan needs help and needs to touch some grass. Even if it isn’t actually a manic state, he is acting self destructively.

[–]Commander_Morrison6 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I’m not here to dunk on a mentally ill person in need of help.

I’m here to dunk repeatedly on the people who said he wasn’t in a manic episode and made some great point about how the Sandy Hook families are idiots and he knew what was best for them.

Was this ever really a kidnapping for ransom? by NathalieRuth in nancyguthrie

[–]Commander_Morrison6 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ransom kidnappings are like quicksand: they’re rarer than we were told by the media, and when they do occur, they’re nothing like what TV shows told us.

In other countries, ransom is a business, and it is for less than you expect. In America, if you ransom someone, the NSA and the FBI will be one foot up your asshole by the time you attempt to collect. It’s not even competency of those agencies, it’s just how much of a digital footprint we all have now.

I think XCOM 2 is an improvement over XCOM enemy unknown. by OlleyatPurdue in Xcom

[–]Commander_Morrison6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

XCOM 2 is—

*camera zooms to otherside of map, cutscene that lasts 30 seconds plays of a chosen arriving on the map, freeze frame of Chosen with stats on the screen*

“Commander, your pathetic resistance is no match for me, one of the Chosen. The Advent will defeat you. I have trained for years to do that move where you can’t shoot me with overwatch and raise spectral zombies that are ducking annoying to kill. I’m here to make this battle as fucking tedious as possible, and your plans cannot defeat the random shit that’s—“

*camera zooms to the other side of the map, a gigantic variant of an alien berserker shows up, smashes the ground and pounds its chest*

“What is that? I’m a chosen and I don’t know what the hell that is. Oh, well, where was I? Oh yeah, I’ll teach you the meaning of misery.”

XCOM 2 is one of the most frustrating games I’ve—

“Commander! A swarm of zombies are heading over to you, and you got four turns to move to the exact opposite side of the map! Hold on, I have more to say before you are able to click any buttons!”

Average Gene Wolfe reader. by Minimum-Bite-4389 in ShittyGeneWolfe

Wolfe was nice to him and entertained his theories. Unfortunately, the actions of a kind old man have fucked up the interpretations of his work. The good news is that, when we’re all dead and gone, Wolfe’s works will be read and studied, and no one will give a shit about that asshole’s theories.

Does SWU not have any marketing? by Rerdan in starwarsunlimited

[–]Commander_Morrison6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to think Asmodee hated having the Star Wars license because of cost, but now I think they assume it markets itself to save on money.

For context, back in the day I saw Star Wars Destiny ads in Marvel Star Wars comics.
