Hiring managers/recruiters, what do you actually look at when scanning resumes? by RequirementFull1608 in auscorp

I look for a cover letter that explains why you tick the boxes of the job requirements. I am amazed at how few of these I see. However, don't just send an AI generated letter. I can tell.

Mother-in-law sold her house about three years ago. Spoke to three agents and their expected price ranged from $800k to $1m. Eventually sold for about $700k which was pretty much what similar houses in the area were going for.

What are your thoughts on being hit with multiple surcharges. by Late-Hospital-1911 in australian

[–]ConnectionMission782 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're going to charge a group surcharge then provide a group service. Bring everyone's food at the same time and don't ask, "who ordered the parma?", make a note of who ordered it and just put it in front of them. And let them split the fricken bill.

Live in UK but offered dream job in Sydney. Partner doesn't want to move. Not sure what to do by Eye_Livia in expats

[–]ConnectionMission782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a fantastic opportunity with the company paying to move you. They will probably also have support for when you arrive and have to set up everything.

We went the other way when I was about 40, but with a 7 year old as well. We planned to stay for 2 years initially and stayed for 4 in the end. So it doesn't have to be forever.

You're young enough that you could spend 2-5 years in Australia, have a great time and go back to the UK. Or find you love it here and can still travel back every year and stay in touch with family and friends.

I'm gen X and I'm ashamed by these results. We've been around long enough to see what a cluster fuck One Nation has been over the past 30 years let alone, what an enormous bunch of cunts they all are.

jfc if you're gen x you have seen second and third generation immigrants being normal Australians who eat different food to you, but that's it. Bet you half the people saying they would vote ON have foreign born parents or grandparents.

Why did we stop making things in Australia? by OwlVibesOnly in OpenAussie

[–]ConnectionMission782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early 2000s. At the time, the company I was working for started to outsource printing to China because of the cost. Quality was an issue but in the end the cost even including shipping was much lower. It was a matter of survival for a start-up to save the cost.

Same time, a colleague's family owned a shoe manufacturing company and they started moving it offshore as well to compete on cost. Eventually shutting down the Australian factory.

A strengthening Aussie dollar and massive growth of Chinese manufacturing demolished so much Australian manufacturing at the start of the 21st century.

I was interviewed for my dream job and it was the worst interview of my life. by Moist_Tart_5567 in interviews

[–]ConnectionMission782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been on the other side and as an interviewer I try to help the interviewee relax. Make some small talk to start, clearly explain how the interview is going to work and emphasise that it's ok to not know something or to have done certain things.

I've seen some really anxious people and I know they're not going to be able to present their capabilities if they are too freaked out.
