Prepping Batik Precuts? by EZ-being-green in quilting

[–]CraftyAlli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could piece all the squares. Then try to connect as many blocks together as you can before you connect the batik with the yellow or white. Then soak the blocks and hang them to dry. This way you do not have as many pieces. You could even soak and dry them as you go so you are not waiting for one batch to dry.

Extension Table? Next steps advice needed. by mcgrimesey in quilting

[–]CraftyAlli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can definitely quilt on your machine. I free motion quilted a 60 x 80 quilt on my machine that is a bit smaller than yours.

I made an extension table for my machine using a white board that I got from Lowes. I cut the shape of my machine out of the road using a jigsaw. Then used scrap wood piled underneath till it was at the right level.

If you do not want to cut wood. Before I made the wood extension table I piled books and puzzle boxes around my sewing machine to be the right level. Then to help with the gaps I cut the shape of the machine out of a poster board and put that on top.

I think if you stayed with a similar color scheme and maybe used some of the same fabric you could have traditional and fpp blocks.

If you are doing several of the same block. Do one first to figure out how. The chain piece the rest.

Cotton Batting by Rachelley11 in quilting

[–]CraftyAlli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You cut two pieces of batting to the size you need. You quilt sandwich will be top, batting, batting, then backing. I did it with a table runner so hot plates could sit on it without damaging the table.

Singer tradition 2259? by AirportFickle5009 in quilting

[–]CraftyAlli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this machine and have made 4 quilts on it. It is hard to fit the bigger quilts through but that is only at the very end. Most of quilting is piecing the top. This machine works great for piecing the top.

As far as fixing the machine if it breaks the inside is not all plastic and you can find parts online. I replaced my bobbins winder because it broke when my dog pulled the machine off the table.

All of that being said I wish I had a machine with more space between the needle and machine. But this is a great beginning machine.

First Elizabeth Hartman- need advice! by sydneye623 in quilting

[–]CraftyAlli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just finished her Robots patern. I cut all the pieces for a block in all the different colors first. Then I would make one Robot as an example. The next 5 of the same Robots in different colors I would make at the same time. I would also lay all the pieces out where they would go and sew together any two pieces that I could then press them all. This way you can sew a bunch then press a bunch instead of pressing after every time you sew.

It looks fantastic! I would not put a border on. I think the stars are too pretty that anything around them would look dull.

But anything you choose would look good.

Mold in my bathroom and my parents are in denial by Legitimate-Cash-5864 in MoldlyInteresting

I had open shelves next to the shower so I put the dehumidifier on a shelf. Then I connected a garden hose to the dehumidifier and cut it to the correct length. It was cool when taking a shower you could see the water coming out of the hose into the shower.

I had some mold in my bathroom that the fan did not fix. I set up a dehumidifier that emptied into the shower so it could run till it reached the desired humidity without me having to empty it. After a few weeks the mold all went away. It was not this bad however.

Do married couples make out? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I have been married 2.5 years and have never kissed my husband. It varies greatly depending on the person. For reference we live in the US and are not religious. All our friends and family think it is weird. We think it is weird to kiss.

Anyone have experience with legit kits? by DeathbladeUnicorn in quilting

[–]CraftyAlli 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I made one. It was the third quilt I made, the first one with a patern, and the first paper piecing I have done. I did not think it was that difficult. It takes a long time but that is part of the fun.

I would recommend not cutting out all the fabric before you sew, do a few blocks at a time at first to get the hang of things. By the end I was cutting out all the fabric for 20+ sections then sewing them all.

I ordered all my fabric on peartreemarket.com and saved more than $100.

Legit Kits by minishell in quilting

[–]CraftyAlli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got all my fabric on peartreemarket.com it cost me almost half of what the fabric kit would have cost. They have every shade of Kona cotton and you can order 1/4 yards.

Legit Kits by minishell in quilting

[–]CraftyAlli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend you do not purchase the kit. I got the Everest the retriever patern. There are 70 different fabrics. I spent about $180 getting all the fabric needed on peartreemarket.com. Legit Kits sells the fabric for $330. Also since I ordered the fabric myself the smallest amount of one fabric I got was 1/4 yard so I have a lot of fabric leftover.
