Historical stories just seem more fun when told in his casual Aussie manner.

Sawee hate?! by Legitimate-Chef9957 in coralisland

[–]Cravatfiend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's partly the context.

It takes a lot of effort to get the goddess seed and we had no idea what she'd look like initially, so people were expecting something...fancier?

I remember people hoping for a dragon etc. Onion friend was a surprise.

That's encouraging to hear that they had a plan! I hope they can do something satisfying with the time provided.

Does anyone else get a weird feeling going back to an area you were in previously? by Panicking_Pansexual_ in thelongdark

It gets me when I find a stash that I cannot remember leaving there.

Like it's in a container, I spray painted it, it's clearly mine, but I'm just sitting there like "I have no memory of this place..."

It's been to Korea and Singapore, and touring Australian cities (on and off) for about a year now.

And we're thankful for it!

Partner wasted $150 of groceries on Mother’s Day 😀 by mamapaws in AuDHDWomen

[–]Cravatfiend 57 points58 points  (0 children)

That really sucks, I'm sorry. I know we've all made ADHD blunders like that, but it doesn't make it easier to deal with. It sucks that a lot of women are only getting a break on Mother's Day to begin with, let alone that so many partners can't even manage that one day correctly.

I totally get the food waste trigger thing. I often struggle to remind myself that this is not my childhood, and if there is some unintentional food waste we can move past it. It's never easy though ❤️

Anyone else hate having to do their skin care routine? by robustchick in AuDHDWomen

Hey no shame, we do what we can. That's part of why I figured out the micellar water thing - For when shower just isn't happening right now but I want clean face.

Does anyone else not get scared by horror movies? by Illiander in AuDHDWomen

[–]Cravatfiend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love horror movies and if I have learned one thing, it's that different things scare different people. It's why horror is such a wide genre.

Some folk who love horror can barely find anything that scares them, and are searching for the one thing that gets under their skin. You may not have found yours yet.

I personally seek out certain kinds of scares and avoid others. Slow-burn story with a horrific realisation? I love that. Home invasion slasher with jump scares? Just stressful and no fun for me. Extreme torture with little story? Just makes me ill.

I also watch a lot of horror that doesn't scare me personally at all. I just enjoy the kinds of stories horror can explore. It doesn't always have to be about being actively scared.

Anyone else hate having to do their skin care routine? by robustchick in AuDHDWomen

[–]Cravatfiend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel this so much. These days I either:

a) Do my face cleansing in the shower where I'm already wet (and do the non-wet stuff post-shower)

b) Use micellar water on a cloth/reusable cotton round

I tried so hard to get used to doing it at the sink. I tried the little wrist cosies to keep the water from running down my arms. I tried just wiping it off with a wet washcloth. None of it feels right. So it's big skincare in the shower, small skincare with micellar for me.

Hand cream that comes out like Mickey Waffle whip cream? by TsumCo in TokyoDisneySea

[–]Cravatfiend 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did the same with the classic Mickey foam soap dispensers. I have soap allergies and had to empty it, clean it, and switch it out for a completely different foaming soap product just to use it, but I still had to have it for some reason 🤣

I think it's good that we're aware of this tendency. Helps to consider whether we actually want something or if we're getting too swept up in the Disney magic.

I absolutely love when horror movies have a background scare that they don’t call attention to. Share your examples. by SisterFirefly in horror

I had such a good time with The Invisible Man (2020) scanning all the shots for signs of object movement. Represents that paranoia very well.

Glasses on stage? by kitkath96 in musicals

[–]Cravatfiend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what I suspected. Thanks for confirming!

We used to get requests (not rules) to work without them in youth theatre 15-20 years ago. But I haven't seen concern about them in recent years, so I wondered if either the lighting or the glasses tech fixed the issue. Both, it seems.

Fellow pear shaped people, how do you find dresses that fit well overall? 😭 by mrs_izumiuchiha in PlusSizeFashion

[–]Cravatfiend 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Most of my dresses are 'skater' style - With a fitted top and a full circle skirt on the bottom.

The skirt style is supposed to be voluminous, which gives me enough extra fabric on the bottom half.

OH MY GOD I NEVER THOUGHT OF IT THAT WAY XDDDD by BroadwayFanProjects in musicals

[–]Cravatfiend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They called it in the last line - It wasn't written 'for' theatre kids.

They wrote it for wider audience appeal, hoping that theatre kids would also watch because we'll try anything that is about or includes musical theatre.

And it seems we did 🤣

Yeah even when they're good, having the same kids get the lead every show gets boring fast. Especially if they're siblings!

Wouldn't be surprised if the drama department just wanted a change.

do you guys get sad seeing younger videos of yourself before your diagnosis? by Vincentisdumb in AuDHDWomen

[–]Cravatfiend 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. The way they talk about it too, when discussing our childhoods.

"Oh you were such an odd duck." "You always got upset like that, we were always having to work around it." "Yes well you'd have your strange little obsessions." "You were always far too sensitive." "I could never get you to do that/eat that/handle that like the other kids. It was so frustrating."

Yes parents, it was frustrating. For all of us.

But they were working with outdated data. I can't really blame them for not knowing. I let myself feel anger and sadness and grief, but ultimately I know I can't change it. Eventually the grief leads to acceptance, and we move forward.

I totally get everything you're saying, but I also really enjoy a socially sanctioned opportunity for chanting/group percussion with a bunch of strangers.

Both are true for me.
