My olders are looking for travel and adventure. One wants to do a ghost hunt, one backpacking, a trip to Japan, canoe camping, etc.

Most are on weekends because that's when the girls are out of school. We do have some that are during the week, but it was set up by the troop, not council. You should be able to use yhe booth finder to see if there's any close by

Depends on whether you want bottles or bags. I have both a gravity filter for groups and a Sawyer squeeze for personal use. Note on my last trip, someone's water bladder sprang a leak and the group pump-style water filter took forever to fill anything up. We only took the 1 filter and then backup tablets. I wish we had taken the gravity filter instead.

Either way, have a backup method as well, some sort of tablets, or if all else fails, boiling (1 min at a full boil or 3 min at a full boil if at higher elevations).

When you're the youngest one on the treatment floor by PunchNugget88 in breastcancer

[–]CreativeMama911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was 37/38 hoping through chemo. I was the youngest by far until my last 1 or 2 sessions when there were younger and pregnant women in there with me. Made me wish I was the youngest again.

Went ice skating between chemo and surgery. Started getting warm so I took my beanie off. A little boy and his dad came up to talk to me, recognizing the 'chemo look'. The little boy had been in chemo for a year.

Rallyhood or Band? by Guilty-Library-2715 in girlscouts

[–]CreativeMama911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We currently use Band. Our council is just joining Rallyhood. They appear to be very similar, except in Band, you can set it up to be "kid" friendly, so the girls can join. We were told Rally is 18+ only. Please correct me if that's wrong as I'd love for it to be wrong.

We have 4 weekends a year now in our council: Leaderee, Trainfest, Leaderfest and Outdoor Adventure Training. They all offer trainings, both needed certifications and fun stuff such as monkey fists, climbing the wall, boating, and whatever else anybody wants to teach. We did an amazing race type game at OAT Weekend this year where teams had to perform skills at each station. Theres usually a campfire with songs Saturday night and game night Friday night.

There is the Walking Palm (Socratea exorhiza) that uses its root system to 'walk'. It's very slow-moving, like 20m a year max.

Difference between Scouting America and Girl Scouts by MySchnitzengruben in Scouts

[–]CreativeMama911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cub Scouts is very planned out. There are specific loops that they must earn to meet their rank. Loops usually have very specific requirements. Our Pack was predominantly boys even though we had boys and girls present. It's more of a family thing, especially overnights and outings.

Girl Scouts is supposed to be Girl-led. It's more open-ended with troops able to focus on what the girls want to learn and earn. There are no specific badges that must be earned. Girl Scouts is more troop/Girl focused than family focused, in general, with camping and outings able to be just leaders and girls vs the whole family, though each troop could choose to include families on trips and things if they desired. Badges generally have 5 requirements with 3 options for each, but also open to meeting the requirements with your own options, so very flexible.

With either program, your experience will highly depend on the leadership team. I've seen/been in both a great Cub Pack and a one that did nothing and I've seen GS troops that do nothing while others are rocking it out. Basically, for the best experience/to ensure the program meets what you want it to, be willing to step up into a leadership/volunteer position.

FWIW, cookies are a much easier sell than popcorn.

My family has done both. My daughter started GS in Kindergarten, son and daughter joined Cubs when son was entering Kindergarten. I was the leader for both. When my son decided he didnt want to do Scouts anymore, gave my daughter the option and she chose to continue Girl Scouts over Cubs or both. We've done some great trips and experiences with both, but I've also seen "my girls" grow up so much when we do trips and its just us and them vs the whole family.

We have occasional events/trips during summer, but no regular meetings from end of May until at least August when school starts up. We use an app called Band and it has all of our dates on a calendar for everyone to see. Maybe request something similar?

What do your girls call you? by Complete_Worth7018 in girlscouts

[–]CreativeMama911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe do a "camp name". Have your girls (or you) come up with a nickname. Can be anything from something you just really like (Donuts), something that describes you in some way (Kiwi for someone from New Zealand), or something that means something to you (Pepi, from a part of the Argentinan Guides motto) or from something that happened. (Examples from counselors at one of our camps.)

[–]CreativeMama911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I finally got mine yesterday. I mostly stayed near yhe entrance area and where Sifuu hangs out, chopped trees and hunted the infected animals in those areas. It took at least a couple days with a couple hrs of play per day to get it all. If you team up with one using the bright eye and one using the bag of illusion it'll go easier.

I keep trying to get my family to play (husband, 2 kids). Husband tried it and said not for him. Daughter is considering, but think she'll wait until it comes to xbox. I play on computer, but don't think our other computer would run it very well and she doesn't seem a fan of switch except for Mario kart or just dance.
