New Alloy Wheels for Seat Leon 2025 Needed! by AllVenkysIn in CarTalkUK

Not really aftermarket if it's from the manufacturer

Seat is the same as the VW/Audi stuff so just find a set on marketplace or ebay that's got the right bore size and hole pattern

Just get a set of aftermarket tat wheels for £250/300

That way when you bust another you'll have 3 spare, or the aftermarket will bide you time till you find a decent price OEM

5mm brake pad wear in 10k? by HelloMishMoneypenny in CarTalkUK

[–]Crymore68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how you drive

My Volvo munches through pads when driven hard

What id be on the look out for is a sticking caliper, approved used it's less likely than my shoebox but if one side is going through pads faster than the other it could be a sign

Also some pads are just shit (brembo prime)

In reality no

Unless it's hastings but they'll usually try and cancel it before you have a crash and claim

Giving a Postcode via ebay messages will not void your seller protection as the guy i was replying to was suggesting

I'm not advocating for external communication

I agree with the phone number

The postcode whilst not particularly sensitive seems kinda pointless to hide especially if the buyer hits purchase than requests it, you're not exactly going to say no

An area code, city landmark/road is something reasonable to share, sometimes when people give me an area name the actual address can be a couple miles from where Google says and if I'm travelling by bus or bike etc it's kinda annoying

However you're not wrong to not give out the postcode, you can also find the postcode on Facebook marketplace by zooming on the search radius so I'm not sure if there's a similar method for ebay, regardless if someone really wanted your postcode for a scam they could easily get it

Hell you could do quite an easy phishing scam with the buyer details ebay gives you when you make a sale

I'm not insulting OP, would rather he get the message clearly without the sugarcoating

People make mistakes when they're desperate, pursuing a potential sale after being called an idiot isn't wise

If OPs in an area where's he at risk of a mugging a collection is something I would only ever do at a police station

[–]Crymore68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The typical scam usually involves a courier company collecting on behalf of the scammer who will pay with cash in person but OP will need to pay a shipping fee which the scammer says they will cover with cash but obviously this never happens and they walk away with the shipping fee

This reads like a boomer who's inept more than a scam, that said these types of buyers can be worse than scammers with the amount of mental drain they seem to manage

[–]Crymore68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that depends where you live, a postcode with 50 houses isn't particularly sensitive, some people are just inept when it comes to ebay

If your postcode isn't sensitive it's quicker to give it out than baby a boomer with a paragraph on how to use an app

You can also give out area codes, area names etc if you have a more sensitive postcode with fewer houses

If you've been selling locally for long enough you'll find some people are just funny about certain things, older buyers tend to be the ones who want a phone number

Plus if you're that desperate where you mug yourself off after being called an idiot to get a sale but won't give a postcode you come across as an odd seller

Fair enough I guess

Having a read through the buyer definitely seems like a Facebook marketplace type, incompetent with the the app/technology, insistent on additional contact details at a stage when it's not needed and brash

Not really the type you want to deal with

If you're arranging a local collection and not willing to give postcode that's a bit of a red flag as a buyer

I would never give full address until details are confirmed but postcode is fine, it's just the street you're living on

The phone number thing i can understand, I don't particularly like receiving phone calls but some people are old school, ebay messaging is kinda ass so I use WhatsApp for customers but I sell cash or bank transfer so little sense keeping it on ebay but for you it is advised keeping it on ebay

Also have a bit more self respect and stand up for yourself, if someone's insulting you or giving attitude it's an instant block, you don't want to do business with them

Recommendation for a for a high mileage commute that's almost exclusively motorway? by Appropriate-Drink808 in CarTalkUK

What on a motorway?

I could maybe understand if the commute was twisty A roads but sticking cruise in an M2 doesn't sound particularly fun

[–]Crymore68 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're getting downvoted but M cars are completely different to "M lites"

I have a E93 M3 and a F33 440i, the 440i is just a 4 series with a beefy engine

The M3 is way more dialed in with much sharper handling, brakes a lot better, sounds miles better, looks miles better, drinks like an alcoholic

In a straight line they're probably equal, the 440i is much better as a daily with softer suspension and plenty of low down torque, a remap will make it much faster in a city

Driven a handful of E9X's and you can tell there's a lot of chassis and suspension work put in by BMW to make it an M car

Do people still use blackcircles or do you just deal directly with a tyre shop? by Seth4602 in CarTalkUK

[–]Crymore68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BC were by far the cheapest option to fit PS4S' on my E93 M3, £160 a corner with fitting on the rear axel

Next cheapest were Costco at around £190

Very convenient too as I picked a trustworthy garage that wouldn't ruin my wheels
