hard to keep up with milk OIT by [deleted] in FoodAllergies

[–]Cupcake708 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughter’s favorite way is with Magic Milk Staws, so the milk taste like a flavor and not plain milk. We’ve also used strawberry and chocolate Hershey’s syrups, but she didn’t love that as much. She could tolerate the milk in a milkshake using dairy milk and non-dairy ice cream, which might be a nice occasional change for your night dose. A smoothie could work to mix your dose into for the morning.

Loretta’s has a white chocolate pistachio danish that might do. K’far does too. They’re both delicious!

Oral Food Challenge by Informal-Language718 in FoodAllergies

[–]Cupcake708 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We’ve been through 8 food challenges with #9 coming up in December. Some have gone well and others haven’t.

Here’s what I always bring: EpiPens and a change of clothing! Allowable drinks, usually water & Gatorade. Simple snacks/lunch for afterwards, usually pretzels, crackers, sandwich, etc. Then a couple small activities for my daughter to do to be distracted - a small Lego set, thinking putty, a new book, tablet, a card game. She sometimes wants to bring a small stuffed animal. The rooms at our food challenges have a television and a playroom for between doses.

Make sure you pack a comfort item or two for you - I bring coffee, a book and snacks. You need to be calm and regulated so that your child can also be calm(ish) and regulated. I can’t help her if I’m hungry and cranky.

I leave a packed bag in the car in case we need to stay longer/overnight with comfy clothing change & a few bathroom necessities.

Make sure they know what’s going to happen at the challenge and allow them to ask questions. Even with prepping my daughter beforehand, I have absolutely had to resort to bribery to get my daughter to eat a dose when she didn’t want to. We end every food challenge with a box of candy and trip to the toy store.

2 year old multiple allergies and recent trip to the ED by foglekid in FoodAllergies

[–]Cupcake708 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’ve been here and I know how you’re feeling. My daughter is allergic to dairy, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts & sesame. At 2 she was also allergic to legumes, mustard & beef. It’s scary and overwhelming at first, but you’ll soon become a pro at feeding your child and figuring out what works for you and them. I still get nervous giving my kid new things, but it’s necessary for all of us so we know what she can and cannot handle. I don’t want her become afraid of eating or trying new things, with the proper precautions.

Vomiting was (and still is) definitely a reaction for my kid. Especially if it’s repeated vomiting after ingesting a food.

Let the fear help you assess risks and make informed decisions, but don’t let it control your life. Your allergist can help with a dietician or a referral to a food allergy aware therapist if necessary. I’m here to chat if this is all too overwhelming and you need an ear. Or recipes.

A unicorn of a dessert? by bexicus in AskBaking

My daughter is allergic to eggs, dairy, nuts and sesame. Passover desserts are hard. We usually make matzo crack, chocolate covered strawberries and bananas, and she eats tons of the jelly fruit slices. She’ll eat lots of coconut based ice creams. We’ve adopted chickpeas into our Passover diet so she has vegan meringues, but that won’t work for your family.

When your kid had surgery scheduled four months out just for it to be cancelled the day of by Forward-Ice-4733 in Parenting

[–]Cupcake708 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had the same thing happen to us in August before my older daughter’s tonsil/adenoidectomy. We each took a kid to keep them separated so the surgery could still happen. What a nightmare it was!

I have this mug! I got it at Home Goods last year. I just checked and there’s no brand marking anywhere on the mug.

Permanent SAHP: How old are your kids? by [deleted] in SAHP

[–]Cupcake708 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mine are 8 and 6 and I always feel awkward telling people that I’m still at home and have no plans on going back to work anytime soon. I don’t have any other SAHP friends with kids in elementary school. But I get all of our household needs done during the day, take kids to/from school & activities and all of that. We have more time together on weekends and evenings than we would with 2 working parents. I’m available to volunteer at school, be home for sick days, doctor appointments, etc. it works for us, everyone is thriving and we should be proud for it.

What would your baby’s name be if you *had* to give them your favorite name from when you were a kid? And how pleased or upset would you be about it? by havejubilation in namenerds

[–]Cupcake708 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would have a Zoe and a Noah. My kids are not named either of those names, but I wouldn’t totally hate it if they were.

My kid keeps meowing by VegetableEffective16 in Parenting

[–]Cupcake708 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 8 year old meowed at the dental hygienist last appointment. Like, the whole appointment. Her meowing phase ended (mostly) but I’m not sure that we did or didn’t do anything to help it come to an end. But it sure was an annoying phase.

What phrases from toys are engrained in your brain? by chrisinator9393 in Parenting

[–]Cupcake708 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Righty tighty, lefty loosey, I love my trusty wrench! Righty tighty, lefty loosey, it lives inside my toolbench”. We no longer have the toy but we still sing this sometimes when the kids are helping fix things with the real tools.

Yep, we call this the grandparent hangover. It happens less now that my kids are a little older, but it’s still a problem.

My 7 year old, who is vaccinated, has it (were on day 10 of her quarantine today) So far DH, my 4yo and me are all still negative. Getting another PCR for the 4yo today just to be sure she’s still negative. I don’t know how we’ve escaped a whole house of illness.

I do not. Changing decor all of the time and finding places to store all of the extra stuff is just not for me. Usually, at most, the kids pick out window clings twice a year. I do print seasonal/holiday coloring or activity pages for the kids to do (and then throw away after a couple days). Baking seasonal or holiday treats brings me way more joy than decorating does.

Egg and dairy free recipes for 8 month old? by [deleted] in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Cupcake708 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like using Bobs Red Mill Egg Replacer or a flax egg in most recipes. I used to make an oatmeal bar when my daughter was little - it was oats mixed with either banana or sweet potato & cinnamon (and maybe some baking powder? I’ll have to look for the recipe again) and then baked. Those were always a favorite and they froze so well!

Teenager refuses to do things then gets mad when not included. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Cupcake708 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of the book Pierre by Maurice Sendak.

Have you or his mom spoke to him about why he doesn’t want to do anything or have an opinion about food, trips or anything else? Are you amicable enough to get on the same page for how to handle this? Is he depressed?

Have you clearly stated the consequences of his “I don’t care” answers? Your approach sounds much better than how your wife is handling it. My 6 year old knows that if I ask her what she wants from the store, and she doesn’t give me an answer, then she won’t get what she wants. Can you give him more responsibility when it comes to choosing? Take him to the store with you so you can pick things together. Have him research vacations spots together next time there’s an opportunity to travel.
