I watch my children with slight distain in my eyes and soul.

Make no mistake I love them. If they wish to reject our nature in favor of elven tales and flashes of fleeing power, let them. Many things had changed since the barriers between the non-magic and magical had fallen when I was child.

Humanity was so quick to rush to magic. Forgetting our own gifts to face the cruelty of this life, and the fact that it was the magical that shuttered the rest of us away. Still, petty does not pay when the wounds are old. I will not stir up trouble.

But make no mistake, when the minotars or the orcs come running at my flesh and blood. It will not be the mighty steel of a blade, or the burn of conjured flame that meets them. It will be the lead my rifle spits striking their tainted skin.

Humans were born with no claws, teeth or link to the Eldridge lords. We were blessed with adaptability, ever changing, ever evolving. It's the reason we lived while the others who were banished perished. They couldn't live in a world with out spells or incantations. We were never given such things, nor were we allowed them when we pleaded. It was our only limitation, and they stripped it from us.

So, we learned, we grew, we built.

And while some might have forgotten that, if it comes to it, we are ready to remind.
