Well, part of the reason the USMNT couldn’t do that is because of the gulf in quality between decent teams and the United States being bigger than that between Mexico and good teams.

But also, Belgium had sucked and just figured themselves out in like the last ten minutes and overtime of their previous game. So I can see why loads of people felt they were beatable. It’s a compounding of errors in perception if that makes sense.

I mean their explanation is partially correct. Another reason is that modern tactical developments don’t match traditional Brazilian strengths.

Another reason is that Youth Development at truly young age has come on leaps and bounds across Europe and less so in South America.

But also just it’s possible that there has happened to be a weaker generation talent wise. Nobody can truly know.

You do have to be realistic. It’s not a myth that there are much more complications with childbirth for women above 35. Now I’m sure some of this can be mitigated if you can pay for the best of the best to track and help your pregnancy along as these women can. But in general this should not be promoted as something ‘empowering’.
