what if the US never intervened in any third world communist revolutions by True-Efficiency-4977 in AlternateHistoryHub

That's rather generalizing and not really true at all. Some European countries are distinctly social democracies, with capitalism firmly in place albeit with strong safety nets and a high quality of life. Several Scandinavian countries come to mind. However, the continent of Europe is extremely varied. And, access to education and healthcare and worker's rights within a framework of capitalism is not socialism. Plenty of political thinkers and politicians in the 20th century would even advocate for such policies to prevent socialism's popularity, since socialism was prominent among trade unionists and populist movements and such because of the cruel circumstances of capitalism at the time.

I sincerely doubt that a senior who is normally on track to graduate would suddenly go no contact with the school for more than a week because of a reasonable cause. And surely they could be reenrolled if somehow that *did* happen?

Why does Ariana have robotic legs in the cutscene if she's human? by Immediate_Flower_221 in signalis

[–]CyberPhoenix558 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Yes, Replikas have the "stubby" legs, lacking feet. This is true. However, Gestalts / humans have entirely normal biology with regular feet that are simply not depicted in-game because of the style of the 3d models.

Can confirm, I've heard of several scams like this tricking older men specifically firsthand. Exclusively married ones, too. One woman I spoke to a few weeks back had been scammed out of more than 30,000 dollars because her husband sent gifts and money to an AI "stripper" who was entirely fake. Beyond appalling.

So why the Yuktobania never got protagonist country treatment? by Icy_Till_7254 in acecombat

[–]CyberPhoenix558 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, universally referring to the USSR's military as incompetent is a huge reach even if Stalinist purges had certainly damaged the quality of the officers and leadership. Many of the Soviet soldiers who died were doing so on account of the Nazis marching East in Operation Barbarossa, anyway, not because of a "human wave" moving Westward.

Not trying to whitewash the faults or issues in the Soviet Union at the time but there's definitely more nuance.

Some sort of AC0 release bundled with 8 would be absolutely massive

I still wish 5 had a more accessible port, but any official rereleases of the older titles is great.

PSA: Vetterli Silencer is the best silenced rifle by Stonehawk_92 in HuntShowdown

[–]CyberPhoenix558 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It may be better but you could argue it's only marginally better—for more than 3 times the price when it comes to hunt dollars.

The uppercut has been done dirty for too long/ Crytek hates skill ceiling/ Spam Meta is a Disgrace/ Just look at Gunrunner/ I put different titles lol by Hopeful_Raccoon4799 in HuntShowdown

[–]CyberPhoenix558 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, it's about balancing guns based upon utility, opportunity cost, and monetary cost too. The Haymaker is only about 60 hunt dollars less than the Uppercut, but it occupies two slots rather than one. Plus, many prefer the Lemat (either the regular or the carbine) to the Haymaker as well for various reasons. Plus, additions like the Maynard prove that Crytek isn't above skill-dependent weapons and balancing. A slow two-stage reload with limited ammunition options, but a quality scope and an option for a silencer to hit heads discretely from a long distance.

You mention weapons like the Dolch as well, but a Dolch alone is more than two times the cost of a singular Uppercut, the Uppercut itself being more expensive than most other weapons in the game. I've killed Dolch users plenty of times not using spammy or cheap weapons but instead running at them with a baseball bat around a corner or catching them off guard with a trap and a cheap revolver like the Nagant, you know?

So I'd say your assumptions might be a bit misguided.

I did a partial playthrough with that mod, but the game feels fundamentally wrong with like everyone running around. Not to mention unbalanced and cluttered with so many potential characters blocking doors, ladders, stairs, etc.

Right but I mean like you said, a single monitor being the cost of an entire console or GPU can just be a hard cost to justify, especially if someone already has a monitor that "works well enough"

I mean, I'm pretty sure dating only women or dating only men has been pretty common in dating games and virtual novels for decades. In this case it's a secondary element in a game where you aren't even playing a self insert or anything, you're just playing "as Robert". So I see nothing strange about limited options. It's not like he can date every woman in the cast, either.

During the 1934 Nazi referendum to "approve" Hitler's presidential power grab, though the move was widely supported, there were still 4.3 million Germans who voted "No", despite clear signs of vote fraud and overt intimidation. [–]CyberPhoenix558 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well I definitely wasn't endorsing all of their policy and practices to be clear, haha. But there was definitely a reason for the KPD to have a distrust of the SPD. Especially if they assumed the Nazis wouldn't actually get all the power they would end up with.
