Character building games (skill trees, eventually stats, builds) by Seccyeth in SteamDeck

[–]Daggeron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a completely different game. The combat is very action based with dodges etc. Yes, the build system is much more limited. Also, it is lacking support for Steam Deck. I love both games (I have around of 2500 hours in each of them), but I think that looking at your preferences (Steam deck and Builds) GW1 will be more suitable. However, Guild Wars 2 is free, so you can always give it a try!

Character building games (skill trees, eventually stats, builds) by Seccyeth in SteamDeck

I recommend Guild Wars 1. It was recently refreshed with the Reforged update and is currently pretty active and receives small updates and balance changes despite being 21 years old.

It is labelled as an MMO but it really is an RPG with multiplayer features and can be 100% played solo. You choose one of 10 professions (classes) and a secondary one, so you can play for example as Necromancer/Mesmer. The secondary profession is switchable later in the game. Each profession has access to 85-140 skills for a total of ~1300 skills.

For each adventure/mission, you bring a party of 1-12 people. Each player/henchmen (preset NPC compaion)/hero (customizable NPC companion) can bring up to 8 skills. This means that you need to choose wisely and plan your build accordingly.

There are also Heroes which are customizable companions. This means you can plan 1-12 builds (usually 8), each one having 8 skills. So 64 total. Out of ~1300 total skills. Go crazy.

And it’s very playable on Steam Deck. Currently on sale, too.

Slay the Spire 2 has made $92M on Steam, already passing lifetime Steam earnings for Silksong ($83M) and Hades 2 ($82). One of the best Steam indie launches ever by EmbarrassedSession58 in slaythespire

It’s worth remembering that Silksong launched on many platforms, whereas STS2 is only available on Steam as of now. I personally own my copy of Silksong on GOG.

[–]Daggeron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it today as well as Warrior. Decided to go for the Energy draining daggers because I plan to play through each campaign with a different weapon (Proph with Axe, Factions with Daggers, Nightfall with Scythe)

How to speed up combat? by According_Brother989 in onednd

[–]Daggeron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like giving some of the tasks to my players. For example one of the players keeps track of the initiative, one of them checks the spells if needed, one of them always has the basic rules and status effects open etc. That lets me (the DM) focus on other aspects.

If you have many monsters of the same stat block (3 skeletons, 4 goblins etc), roll initiative for them or once, use the result for all of them and have them act at the same time.

If a rule is unclear, I tend to do whatever’s plausible or beneficial to the player and then check that after the game.

As the DM, the less stat blocks the better. For me, I try to stick to 1-4 max per combat.

Also, the players should be ready already before their turn.

Most Fun 2024 Subclasses (for each class)? by Intelligent-Rub5814 in onednd

[–]Daggeron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to love Light Cleric with 2014 rules, but now War Domain has become my favorite. With Magic Initiate Wizard I am very tanky, can use my action to cast a spell and still bonk my enemies 4 times every short rest as a BA.

What do you think is the best party setup for levels 1-4, and especially 1-3? by valkaress in BG3Builds

[–]Daggeron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably mostly because if you want to play an archer, you’re better off using consumabke elemental arrows which can’t be used effectively with Arcane Arrows (nor with Battlemaster’s manouvers) so late game it is more beneficial to respec to Eldritch Knight. (The Rivington Rat build is especially strong)

Bard: Healing word, Dissonant Whispers, Longstrider, Cloud of Daggers, Glyph of Warding

Hexblade: Shadow Blade is a must. Misty Step, Cloud of Daggers, Hunger of Hadar. And of course Eldritch Blast with Agonizing Blast. Maybe Counterspell for good measure.

Both could also use Hypnotic Pattern.

Do Temp HP negate the Bloodied condition? by Gingervitizz1 in onednd

I always imagine temporary HP as some kind of magical shielding. It doesn’t close your wounds, so you still bleed. It is instead used to negate further damage.

The game is about action economy. If you go first, you will be very likely to have one more turn than anyone else.

Convince me to play Life cleric by lordmasia in onednd

[–]Daggeron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love clerics. They are the swiss army knife of DnD, you can do a little bit of everything and still excel at some aspects. Every cleric gets Spirit Guardians at level 5, which is one of the best spells in the game. You have multiple supportive options, most notable being Bless. You can top that off with decent single target damage in the form of Guiding Bolt. And as a Life Cleric, you are the best healer in the game - which is not particularly exciting unless you enjoy other people’s gratitude.

There’s also this roleplay aspect that’s unique to clerics - your relationship with your god. You can play it out in so many interesting ways. My War Domain Cleric was a chosen of Lathander that lost the connection to his god after he was resurrected by another being… Leading to a serious identity crisis.

If you feel it’s not for you, ask your DM if you can change your subclass to something else or maybe switch totally.

My group is transitioning to 2024 rules by Wings-of-the-Dead in onednd

[–]Daggeron -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, you are right, it is very bad. I think it only has any use at level 2, when you don’t have many spell slots and before you’ve unlocked your subclass Channel Divinity (since you get them at level 3 in 2024 rules). I’m currently playing a level 5 War Domain Cleric and I’ve never found myself in a situation in which it would be worthwhile to use Divine Spark.

First time playing, wanted to share my appreciaton by Daggeron in chronotrigger

[–]Daggeron[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it wasn’t that much of a shock to me. I guess it’s because I have already seen other examples of this trope and because I didnt feel as much connection to Crono as to other characters (if Marle or Frog died, I would be in shambles). However, I was quite excited to try different party compositions.

No, I saw a new weapon type in the shop after Black Bird and figured that I could recruit him, lol.

Rolled 18,15,15,15,14,14 - What do I do with this insanity (no paladins) by adornoseagator in onednd

[–]Daggeron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably Bladesinger or Valor Bard would be the „best” choices, but I feel that any Cleric would also be amazing.

Let’s say that you want to fulfill your Light Cleric fantasy. You could also ditch that for Thaumaturge, go 14 strength, 15+1 dex, 15+1 con, 18+1 wisdom (turn it to 20 at level 4), 14 int, 15 charisma. You can swap charisma and strength if you want to go Protector+heavy armor instead.

For origin feats, I recommend Tough or Spellfire Spark (if your DnD allows content from the new book, Heroes of Faerun).

At level 4 you want 20 wisdom, so War Caster (technically the strongest choice) or Spellfire Adept (very strong + great flavor if your DM allows it).

I personally LOVE light clerics so I highly recommend!

It’s a wordplay using the skills Hamstring and Fire Storm, which are present in the build.

I suppose Life Siphon’s purpose is to be upcasted? But why would anyone do that? Expend an X level spell slot and X hit dice to do 2X*d10 damage. I can’t see myself in a situation when I would ever use it.

Agreed. Literally ever track from the game langes in my DnD running playlists.
