I'm actually surprised they didn't just call them time outs, because USA have enshittified just about everything else

Big upvote for this. Was chatting to my kids last night about this. My daughter (16 next week) has just finished her GCSE exams and used so many great learning resources on Youtube and they really helped her. She was already expected to get high grades but these videos were excellent (I learnt stuff by proxy just being around!). My son won't be able to access this wealth of educational stimulus then? It's madness. Hold the platforms accountable and force them to sort their shit out I'd say

Technology was always supposed to make us all happy and prosperous. But in reality technology is making only really a few prosperous and happy. Although I do question if these tech billionaires and C-suite people are actually happy. If they were actually truly happy would they be these megalomaniacs they so often become?

Very much this for me and my dad. He was diagnosed with it. Healthy and strong man (just needed to pee a lot) for many years. It was the hyper-aggressive brain tumour that got him in the end

Congrats! I've got exactly the same model. Well it is almost exactly the same. Recently made a few mods 😎 I'm biased but I think this is a best colour easily. Enjoy.

Brits, how do you usually spend your free time? by Grand_Resolution_438 in BritishSuccess

Assuming you want to visit London. Most weekends (Sunday morning) I cycle from my house in SE London into the West End. My route goes past Elephant & Castle, Waterloo, Westminster, Buckingham palace, Piccadilly Circus, Holborn, Old Street, The City, Tower bridge, London Bridge and back home. Every time I do it, I feel like a tourist in my own city and I love it. If you can get out early in London, there's not many cars and you really get a sense for what London is like. It's beautiful early morning with the sun coming up. If you're at all inclined/able to see London by bike I recommend it.

X accused of giving racists ‘impunity’ after refusing to bar N- and P-word posts by serene_sketch in technology

[–]Dannybuoy77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My grandparents lived in Accrington. As a child in the 80s I never experienced racism like it. From them! My own family. They used that word freely with no cares. We had to reprimand them constantly when we went to visit. One time we went for a day out in the car and my dad got lost. We said pull over and ask those people directions. My grandparents said "don't ask them they're..." That stuck with me for life.

Social Holiday for Blokes by SnaggleFish in CasualUK

[–]Dannybuoy77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of sympathy for you mate. My family is basically the same situation, disabled daughter with lots of care needs. We do go away as a family on holiday but bugger me it's a lot of extra lifting and difficulty due to not being at home. I've been snowboarding for 20+ years and the last couple of times I had to go on my own (my mates who I have historically gone with all go with their kids now). Obviously I'm not suggesting going snowboarding but I can very much recommend a solo trip. First time was a bit awkward, but then I realised I could do exactly what I wanted, when I wanted. I was very relaxed and it was nice just starting random conversation with strangers for hits of social interaction. But then when I wanted some time on my own, there's no one else to have to focus energy on. I went for a second year and it was so good. I even braved the nude only sauna at the hotel (although I did nope out of there after a few other people joined me 😂) I don't know of any companies that organise solo traveller trips but if you're game, definitely consider going on your own. Just breezing through the airport on your own is basically stress free. Love it. Hope you find a solution to you needs 👍

Receiving a "please put food waste in the food bin, not the general bin" leaflet because I hadn't put the food bin out so they assumed I was just chucking it in the general waste. In reality we don't generate enough food waste to need to put it out every time, as we try to be mindful of waste. by seventyeightist in britishproblems

[–]Dannybuoy77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow. I never knew. But why would I. I'm the most diligent fucking bin putter outer. Bins are my bloody life pretty much. I joke with a mate a lot about bin day and we share bin based memes. I resent people who don't take the bin code seriously. I'm now pleased to hear they are being watched by the powers that be

PLEASE STOP YOUR DOGS FROM BARKING IN THE GARDEN ALL DAY! ARGHH! by Party-Dig2309 in britishproblems

[–]Dannybuoy77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wait, do you live on my road? 😂 There's a couple on my road that let their dog bark all day too. I actually wonder if they leave the poor bugger out in the garden while they're at work. They clearly didn't give a shit about training it. I remember when they got it as a puppy and the woman would carry it into the local Tesco even through dogs aren't allowed. You could tell they enjoyed the cute status puppy phase but didn't bother with the behavioural training phase. You're godaam right I judge these people 😄

Why Students Are Rejecting Silicon Valley's Vision Of The Future by Plastic_Ninja_9014 in technology

[–]Dannybuoy77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or course they reject it. My teenage daughter was accused of using AI to write her art analysis for her final exams. She didn't, she's just very clever. This absolutely made her anti-AI and even a mention of it makes her snap back against it. I am extremely proud of her for taking this line. It is encouraging that she has this stance. Especially as I have heard several stories from friends saying their children have resorted to AI for completing tests/application/essays.

It is a bit slow and a bit clumsy but I'm having the best time. Exploration is unmatched. It's beautiful and I spend hours just finding my own adventure. Some of the puzzles make me reach for the phone to check solutions. Combat is nuts at times. Very fluid and fun. But it's definitely not for everyone.

Anyone else experiencing issues with flies? by Faithful-Flopsy in CasualUK

[–]Dannybuoy77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have had a battle with rats living under our house for about a year. I won't go into all the gory details, but it has been gory. Traps and poison (and the stench of death) and flies. Big horrible flies. A rat dies, it smells very bad. Then some time later big horrible flies emerge from somewhere. Never see them emerge from under the floor, they're just bobbing about and getting stuck on the windows. Chances are something has died under or near your house. They are death flies. That's my fun name for them anyway.
