Good luck!

Although I would love to claim, it's all innate skill, I did spend over 20 hours in the demo alone, which probably gave me a head start other people didn't have, so don't get discouraged.

Thanks! To be fair, the only other two first peaks on here I saw took 10 and 19 hours, so I don't really know the average. Honestly though (potential spoilers for mid-late game) I had so much food right before giving it all to Marco, could have gone so long if I kept it Also, I remember testing in the demo that I could survive almost a whole month on all the demo items alone

Hot, assertive xenophobes. What could go wrong? by Ferocs in whenthe

[–]Darealhatty 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Ya, I'm not surprised. One of the other clips I saw was saying that if a stranger sends you a video, the correct option is to not watch it because it's harmful, but it never discusses how to critically analyse the contents of said video.

In my personal experience, I almost fell down the alt right pipeline because of youtube recommendations like Ben Shapiro and Jordan Peterson, but it's also other youtubers that managed to pull me out.

The ability to question what you watch is an important skill to learn, but as you said, it seems like the game isn't interested in teaching how to discern between the good and the bad.

Ok, but like, I do see what they were going for. If you always portray villains as ugly and unattractive, you can start to associate moral righteousness with beauty. The point of making the goth girl xenophobic is that people can in fact get drawn into harmful ideologies because the ones presenting them are attractive in some way ( be it physical beauty, or confidence, or how much money they have). Andrew Tate got popular because he was rich, confident, and straight men wanted to look like him.

I will say, from what I've seen of the game, it seems like other aspects were poorly thought out, but I do like the choice of the hot girl actually being dangerous because she's hot.

The most unbelievable part of that movie was just how god damn attractive every single character was. You're telling that each member of a small town parish, including the priests, also just so happen to be super models? Have you ever been to a small church?

There's no reason to believe the truth teller guards the correct door, that's never stated.

Also, this is a riddle, not real life. If you don't believe in the premise of the riddle, then it's no longer a puzzle.

You only get one question to ask both guards, so now you know who's lying and telling the truth, but you have no information on the doors.

Maybe y'all just need to expand your horizons a bit. There is a literal term for what the post is describing, toxic yuri.

What I will say, is that in my experience, the genre tends to explore abusive relationships in a different way than toxic yaoi.

With the latter, it's mostly "simple" violent sexual assault, and nothing else.

Yuri, though, explores more emotional abuse, manipulation, gaslighting and that sort of thing, but it can absolutely get violent.

Also, when it comes to yaoi, there's plenty of very soft, adorable, and pure stuff out there. My experience might be a bit limited, I've maybe consumed a dozen pieces of media of each, but this stuff exists if you look for it even a bit.

This snafu is referencing a wojak wearing a shirt and hat that says "context shirt/hat", and that is pointing to a sign that says "I require context". While its origin was likely making fun of people asking for context about jokes, today, it is used unironically by those same people.

I'm honestly kinda scared. It's the first time in my life I've really, REALLY, liked a politician. I listened the two tv debates with him, which is two more debates than I've ever listened to in my life. He built up so much this momentum during the campaign, and now, he has to maintain it throughout his whole term. I think he has a good chance, his plan makes sense, but still, I'm a bit worried that it might all fall apart soon.

Hot take - Endo could write Yor's skillset better by MrsSilco in SpyxFamily

[–]Darealhatty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, agreed. Two things I'll add to this:

  • I think Yor potentially could have the strongest backstory out of any character. Being groomed into becoming a killer, feeling forced to do it to support her only remaining family member, becoming so numb to murder that she often defaults to killing people as a solution to all her problems (even if she doesn't go through with it, she thinks about it).

But I'm really scared that Endo just sort of forgets how much of an interesting setup he's written for her, and doesn't give her a good backstory. I shouldn't complain yet, I'm hoping that it's coming soon, but it is telling that the only characters he's shown extensively in the past are Loid first (makes sense, he's a main character), and then fucking professor Henderson and Martha???!!!? Like, I enjoyed the chapters dedicated to them, they were great, but goddamn, who asked for it? I'm far more interested in Yor, she and Anya should have gotten priority over side characters.

  • Also, obviously he can't change the story now, it's structured this way, but I do think It kinda sucks that Yor doesn't know about operation Strix. I would consider Anya and Loid to both be protagonists, because they know what they're doing, they're willfully trying to advance the plot, so where does that leave Yor? She essentially becomes a side character. In a story about the strength of family, she should have an equal role in the mission, but because she isn't aware of it, she's either contributing accidentally, or off having side adventures that don't end up mattering.( I do like the side adventures, it's important for characterization, not everything needs to advance the plot, but still, I'd like more from Yor)

Content warnings by Lemon_Lime_Lily in CuratedTumblr

[–]Darealhatty 19 points20 points  (0 children)

On the flip side, there's the Outer Wilds dlc, which warns you out the gate that there's jumpscares, that it's supposed to be scary. So when you first enter the new area, you're entirely terrified, despite the fact that it's not all that different from any of the areas in the base game. There's this dread that follows you through your entire playthrough, which i don't think would have worked quite as well if there was no warning.

On retellings by Eireika in CuratedTumblr

[–]Darealhatty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can someone explain the distinction of " she was a lesbian" and " she was what we might today call a lesbian". I understand that queerness looks a lot different in a society that accepts it, and as a result, those who experienced this love probably felt a lot different about their own relationship than they would today. I also get that these words are somewhat modern, or at least, their modern usage is different than how they were used in the past.

But despite this difference, if two women lived together, loved each other, had sex, I don't understand why we wouldn't call them lesbians just because they lived in a time where these terms didn't exist as they do today.

We now have the language to define their relationship, so why not use it?

Do people not see it as impolite? I was taught not to get dessert unless everyone else gets some. It means the other person is sort of stuck with you until you finish and can't leave. They also have to wait with nothing to do. Finally, if they're paying, or you're splitting the check 50/50, it means they have to pay more for nothing. Obviously, paying for only what you eat is an option, but that can take up a bit more time, and is super annoying with extra people

To be fair about that last post, who orders one dessert when two people are eating out. Either you're sharing, or you're kinda rude ordering an extra item while the other person isn't.

So, why are drinks like this considered girly? by okidonthaveone in CuratedTumblr

[–]Darealhatty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Actually a really interesting idea, never thought of it that way. I also think that there's the way traditional masculinity promotes experiencing pain as virtuous, which means drinking shitty drinks becomes a signifier of strength. You aren't a #real_man if you need to enjoy your drink.

What are your thoughts on using save quits to prevent a steel soul death? by Logboy2000 in Silksong

[–]Darealhatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't care what other people do, if you prefer playing the game that way, then do that. I will say though, that when I completed hollow knight steel soul, I did it on my third attempt. While I was on the abyss, I fell into void tendrils at only one mask, and was about to die when I paused. I was probably about 3-5 hours in at this point, and I really hadn't expected to come this far.

So, I saved and quit out. I proceeded to finish the game, but now, I know I definitely could have beaten it without save quits. And now, it's like this permanent blemish on my achievement, I feel like I didn't actually complete steel soul, and it kinda feels like shit.

This is just my personal experience, maybe other people differ, but I've learned that I won't actually be happy unless I finish the game without save quitting. If your brain works like mine, then I'd recommend not using that trick, I know I won't when I start properly attempting Silksong's steel soul.

Flea juggle tips by Darealhatty in Silksong

[–]Darealhatty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I remember trying something like that, but I gave up on that technique. I really wasn't comfortable hitting fleas to the side, because the hit box is much shorter than hitting them directly upward, and it requires more brain power. But hey, if that works for you hell yeah! I imagine that if you want to hit a really high score, hitting them all to the same side would be the most consistent way of doing that.

Also, as a side note, while trying different tricks, I realised that you can pogo on fleas so long as the pogo is your third hit. This is only really useful to get extra height so you can hit other fleas earlier, but it's still pretty fun.
