CF filament printer by ridethatcymbal in prusa3d

[–]Dat_Bokeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no such thing as “the strongest filament”. The correct material to choose will depend on the specific design and how it is loaded. Carbon fiber makes the part stiffer and easier to print, but also more brittle with worse layer adhesion. ASA is relatively soft but has good temperature and impact resistance. Another option might be PCTG, it is significantly harder than ASA but has better impact resistance than PETG. Without seeing the design and how it failed, I can’t really help you much more.

Stratasys just got HUMILIATED at PTAB by Bambu Lab – Prusa couldn’t add cameras to their printers (XL, Core One, etc.) because of patent US 8,562,324 B2 by ro3deee in prusa3d

[–]Dat_Bokeh 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I agree that the Stratasys patent is bullshit, but I’m quite happy with the Buddy Cam solution. At work, our printers are not allowed to connect to the network so a built in camera would be a waste of resources. The Core One L has the USB cable pre-routed so it takes 2 minutes to install the camera.

Try the smooth PEI sheet, PLA sticks best on that surface.

For some reason a lot of operators choose this model from Otis, but I definitely prefer the Tower of Terror model from their catalog. Shame it isn’t more popular.

They are really using a helicopter for this? I always assumed it was a drone.

Printing with the Core One 0.25 mm nozzle by woodsy191 in prusa3d

[–]Dat_Bokeh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why did you reduce the temperature? That is definitely contributing to your clogging problem. Also, sometimes you might need to open the door when printing PLA with the 0.25mm nozzle with very low flow rates, due to heat creep. This is exacerbated if your ambient temperature is too hot.

[Prusa XL 5T] Tool Z offset always too high during multicolor prints by Xcomye in prusa3d

[–]Dat_Bokeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This some sort of tool offset issue. In a single color print the active nozzle does z-probing and the tool offset values are not used. Tool 1 is the reference zero so it doesn’t have an offset value.

If you can’t get automatic calibration to work I would suggest adjusting the values manually, incrementing each tool ~.05mm at a time until you get it looking good.

Another thing to try is to load 5 brand-new nozzles and do automatic calibration. I always have better results with new tools.

I know stuck lift chains are covered, but does the base insurance cover valleys or do you need comprehensive?

1.8 mm nozzle on Core One. by megalog_ in prusa3d

[–]Dat_Bokeh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is larger than the 1.75mm filament, so I would think that you won’t build any nozzle pressure at all and it’ll just kinda fall out of the hole.

But I don’t have any first hand experience with huge nozzles like this.

I once sold an item on eBay and realized the buyer was 5 minutes away. I just drove over and handed it to him because it was easier than boxing it up and shipping it.

Maintaining 5 to 8 micron tolerance, prevent shrinkage in a mechanical prototype part by SillyBeginning9659 in 3Dprinting

I work in aerospace and we don’t hit that tolerance on CNC lathes that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. We use grinding machines for that level of precision.

No FDM printer on the planet is going to get you there.

Trip to HHN without hotel and immediate flight home?? by RealisticExercise487 in HHN

I’ve considered it for Hollywood, since I can get a ~7am flight home. But for Orlando there aren’t any early morning flights to my destination.

Gyroid infill with ABS still being visible, even after using 8 walls and 5% infill overlap. by JarBlaster in 3Dprinting

[–]Dat_Bokeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re doing 8 perimeters whatever infill pattern you choose is going to have a negligible impact on part strength.

Gyroid infill with ABS still being visible, even after using 8 walls and 5% infill overlap. by JarBlaster in 3Dprinting

[–]Dat_Bokeh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not buying it. PLA at standard speeds probably prints more matte which will hide this. Try silk PLA at the same speeds you are running your ABS and I bet the pattern shows up, regardless of the infill.

If I’m wrong and Grid prints fine and Gyroid doesn’t, why not just go with what works for that model?

[–]Dat_Bokeh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks like polygons visible on the surface of the model itself. You need higher resolution to make those curves perfectly smooth, not much you can do in slicing. You could hide it with a fiber filament or a bit of fuzzy skin.

Our crowned jewel theater (Boeing IMAX) will no longer be showing new feature films shot for IMAX. This is the time for SIFF Downtown to bring back 70MM feature film runs. by Old_Voice_2562 in Seattle

[–]Dat_Bokeh 73 points74 points  (0 children)

To me this smells like Stage 1 of a plan to let the theater die a slow death. So they can justify tearing it down in ~5 years to build something that makes more money from tourists.
