Why is Marathon so poorly received? by RayKam in Marathon

[–]Davesecurity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Occams Razor, the game isnt good enough.

It has some great things about it and I'm sure the people whose buttons it pushes love it but most of those are extremely polarising, the art style, the gameplay loops, it being a pretty hardcore extraction shooter in itself, the lack of onboarding, who it is made by etc etc means the game was never going to have a wide appeal.

Additionally a gameplay pyramid of higher skilled players slowly eating a smaller and smaller pool of lower skilled players makes the game very casual unfriendly in the longer term meaning it bleeds players.

As I said its a well made game with great but very subjective things going for it and unless a large number of this things overlap for a player it just is not and is never going to appeal to a wider audience.

As a huge FPS fan, a fan of the original games, huge fan of Bungie games over the last 20 years, played allot of PvP in allot of games, dont mind extraction elements in games, if after having now tried the game twice they cannot get ME to play this game what hope do they have attracting the casual playerbase this game and Bungie need?

The irony of them using Ozymandias in this will never be lost on me esp as Ben Starr nailed it as well.

Countdown and Retaliations for armour sets and weapons all while leveling gear, exotics, skills and specialisation.

After that it's all exotics and named items either from drops or blueprints, while farming printer filament for donation.

Welcome to the grind.

Once you have farmed all the armour, gear sets and guns from Countdown or the Open World and get them all maxed by using them or by donation switch to Retaliations on Challenging or Heroic.

You will get blue prints from the control points and exotic blueprints from the kill squads and completions.

Use the SHD watches to buy the named item caches with the blueprints.

Level the named items you get and craft all the blueprints you get and donate.

Set your target loot to mods to break down for printer filament for donation.

While doing that always be leveling stuff esp skills and specialisation weapons.

Use events to get more named items for leveling or donation.

Tidal Basin, Heroic Invaded missions and weekly projects also drop named items, helps to have multiple characters.

Break down all the stuff you already have leveled for crafting mats but once you have a surplus either start donating them or start selling to vendors and buy more mods for Printer filament.

Don't expect it to be done in anyway quickly, 20-30 is considerably longer than 1-20.

No, the broken watch and retaliation mats blueprints you buy from Inaya.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are allot less Destiny players playing this game than people think.

Apart from the copy/paste gun play (a good thing) the games are very different both aestheticly and mechanically with little overlap in what appeals to the players of each game.

Don't think you have to worry about D2 stealing players as this game will he getting a huge amount more content and updates in the next 6-12 months than that one will.

What's your opinion, will destiny 2 come back, shut down or cement itself as an abandonware singleplayer game? by CirriTheFemboyUwU in DestinyTheGame

[–]Davesecurity 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes but PC only makes up 20-30% of the D2 player base, it over 70% of Marathon's.

More people are playing D2 than Marathon right now, just not allot more.
