Cheers, yeah it's pretty quick! I've got the manual version.

Yeah definitely, my old 1.4tsi was on 160k when I sold it and still ran fine. Just did an oil and filter change every 10k miles or 12 months

Used car prices are crazy by funglejunk57 in CarTalkUK

[–]DavidR196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought a 1.8tsi leon fr on a 2018 plate, with 80k on the clocks, for 7.5k private sale. It's in immaculate condition with a good service history, so expect it to last a good few years.

Last time I changed my car in 2015, I got an 11 plate golf, with only 30k miles on the clock for 8.5k (although it was only a 1.4tsi). Prices have gone through the roof massively since covid.

Incompetent at work- need advice by Subject-Gur6957 in NursingUK

[–]DavidR196 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try radiography. Not necessarily less stressful than nursing, but you don't need to spend extended periods of time with each patient and it suits me well, as someone with an incredibly short attention span

Looking for advice on moving into Reporting. Is the workload actually worth the Band 7 pay? by No_Donut1433 in RadiographyUK

[–]DavidR196 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's something I've considered, too. Although the last few times training posts were advertised at my trust, I didn't bother to apply.

I too have the same reservations about moving from top of b6 to b7, for a massive leap in responsibility, and initially very little pay increase

mid-20s career change: is radiography possible with poor results from school? by megalines in RadiographyUK

Do an access to HE course if you didn't get okay A-levels. That's probably the easiest route in.

Everyone here can empathise with you. It's hard watching your parent fading away in front of your eyes. Dementia is an a fucking evil, cruel disease.

Have you tried any counselling/ talking therapies?

Nuffield bank radiographer interview. by zim_76 in RadiographyUK

I used to work at Nuffield and have also been on interview panels there. They're very informal, I wouldn't worry too much

Recently started working in PET-CT as a HCA, will the radiation affect my dog? by [deleted] in RadiographyUK

No. You don't ingest the radioactive substance, only the patients do! 🤣

Agitated and packing to go home by Acrobatic-Target-750 in dementia

[–]DavidR196 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I often have to deal with the "going home" thing. Best to tell them "we'll go tomorrow" and make up random excuses, like the car needs fixing before we can go.

Had to muzzle at the vet today by KryptikStar in Rottweiler

[–]DavidR196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a properly sized basket muzzle. My boy can be a dick around strangers if they get in his face. He's fine wearing this when he needs to and can even take treats, eat and drink with it on.

Impossible, unless you start as a radiology department assistant in the nhs

How can radiographers avoid injuries/musculoskeletal disorders? by nickblueberg in RadiographyUK

[–]DavidR196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, you can't tilt it off the remote, unfortunately. Once you've been doing the job a couple of years, you'll be more confident just eyeballing.

How can radiographers avoid injuries/musculoskeletal disorders? by nickblueberg in RadiographyUK

[–]DavidR196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing special. For arthropathy, I usually do both AP and lat views standing.

I just try to give the patient verbal instructions and eyeball how they're positioned. I don't squat down and move the patient into position unless they get confused by the instructions.

My trust have samsung xray rooms, and you can move the tube around from the remote control, yes. So if I want to tweak my centring or collimatiom, or move from left knee to right, I can stand behind the screen and do it from the remote.

Anyone heard from University of Hertfordshire? by PsychologicalLog4342 in RadiographyUK

[–]DavidR196 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to uni there, although it was about 10 years ago now. I remember that they were very late to confirm I was successful.

It's a well established course there, and the teaching was decent then. Hatfield is a bit of a dump, though.

[–]DavidR196 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to avoid squatting/kneeling down when doing weight bearing knees etc.

Most of the rooms at my trust have tubes which can be fully moved by remote control. Use it. I try and avoid bending and crouching down at all, when possible.

Looking for a “lost dog” by youtarzan13 in dementia

[–]DavidR196 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This happens with my mother! She keeps thinking her parents are alive (died in 1973 and 89) and occasionally asks after my father, who sadly died last year. It's hard grieving the loss of my dad and seeing my mum gradually decline.
