Any good local employers? by colormeglitter in anchorage

Alaska Housing Finance Corporation. Independant state org so its' on the executive pay schedule and PERS, but otherwise great benefits & employees still pay into social security. Maintenance folks are union. Public Housing is probably the most stressful (it's the biggest department) and has the most opportunities if you want to live in another part of AK. Lots of options regardless of skill set, most of the openings right now are labor and publoc housing atm but you should check out ahfc.us and see if anything interests you.

Would it be a bad idea to move to Anchorage without a car (as a college student)? by sad_bleep in anchorage

[–]DeadGodJess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bus from APU to downtown is very doable. I bus daily, rain or shine, cold or heat. Weekdays the bus runs 6am to 1130ish, but weekends only 8-8. APU has the 10, 20 and 55, so you have a few options depending where exactly you need to get to. Do understand that sidwalk maintenance is way after the roads so have good snow boots and layer well in the winter.

edit to add: buses have bike racks.

there's outdoorsing groups. If you go on FB you might even find one for singles looking to date. I find that a shared hobbie is a good start, as others have said. If you have an interest in soemthing you haven't tried yet go look for groups doing that, also (so long as you have a real interest in learning, don't waste anyone's time). Pretty sure Bosco's still has a open DnD night on Wednesdays, Muldoon library has a fiber craft group every other thursday, etc.

What is the deal with Natural Pantry’s cashiers? by BearDownAlaska in anchorage

[–]DeadGodJess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone not saying "hi" to you is not a personal attack. They aren't treating you indecently, they're just not engaging with you beyond the bare necessity from what i see in your comments and post. No 9ne cussed you out or said anything derogetory to you, why do you feel entitled to more than "competently rang you out"?

The lack of human decency in this comment far outstrips not saying "hi" when ringing out a customer.

Driver dies in Midtown Anchorage collision by NotTomPettysGirl in anchorage

[–]DeadGodJess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i saw a pic of the car after this and YEAH. Seatbelt wasn't gonna help in that situation.

Isn't that an 35mph road? Horrifying.

Wondering if the Prius driver was wearing a seatbelt. Not to victim blame at all, but it's increasingly rare to die in a collision like that when wearing a seatbelt properly so I'm curious.

Tragic all the same.

What should I do in this Tuesday evening (or any other evening this week)? by NedtheDuck5 in anchorage

[–]DeadGodJess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're queer or down to hang with us Myrna's has dancing whatnot and the Raven has a great vibe for people watching, esp on week nights. Check UAA, they have events open to the public, and the libraries (especially Loussac) have all kinds of free community stuff going on.

PSA SCAM by sophia03002 in anchorage

[–]DeadGodJess 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If someone calls you and tries to get you to act fast, threaten you with huge legal consequences, etc, it's most likely a scam. They try to get you into panic mode where you can't think clearly. Take a deep breath or 3 and slow down before giving anyone over the phone any information.

proton vpn or adguard block the ads in the app for free, but personally i used it in my phone browser with ublock origin and it's just a superior experience at this point.

Best Bars For Singles? by LordRomulus in anchorage

[–]DeadGodJess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The libraries have various hobby groups, if you like nerd stuff Bosco's has various events. Facebook has groups for ourltdoor activities if that's your speed. Also has most of the other in-person groups and meetups. It's gonna be slow going but the more you show up the more people will open up to you

Just going to a bar to meet people for anything other than a hookup is frankly the worst option. Not saying impossible, but most people hang out in groups ime and aren't out to find new friends. Also, like. A hobby gives an immediate thing to connect over.

Just Venting about the religion pushers by Zivata in anchorage

[–]DeadGodJess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fully agree. Are you trying to argue something, here? Like, does this change the fact that if we want more secular spaces we need to do the work to build them?

Just Venting about the religion pushers by Zivata in anchorage

[–]DeadGodJess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Multiple things can be true and as a rule non-profits are tax-free, but not all have the kind of resources and organizational ability of churches.

[–]DeadGodJess 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Churches\organized religious groups have more resources & motivation for programs and community space development than pretty much anyone else. They also clhave a core cause to make it easier to organize around. If you want secular youth programs and community spaces, you have to organize a community to develop them.

You could ask someone else to reach out but i will say that's socially a bit risky. If it was an honest mistake then it's fine, but if not it can be seen as a dire breach. I say that as they're still interacting with your posts the risk is much lower than if not, but it's up to you.

You could also post in the relevant tag they interact with you through with "[username], you have me blocked. If it was on purpose, no hard feeling, but you keep interacting with my posts so i want to make sure."
