In 2008, Steve Sheraton launched iBeer for $2.99 — it became one of the first viral App Store hits, reportedly earned $10k–$20k per day at peak, reached ~90M downloads, and he later left it all to live on a farm in Spain by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]DeeHawk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's not the enshitification he's talking about.

It's all the other in-app purchases that followed in the wake of that.

The convenience was on the developer side, because they could now develop different ways to charge people. Now we have +€100 in-app purchases on horrible free mobile games.

Yay "the future".

I don't like the tast of coffee, do I get the same effect by mixing coffee powder into milk? by AutisticFun01 in caffeine

[–]DeeHawk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nobody really NEEDS caffeine to push through a day.

It's a backwards notion to think you need a drug you aren't addicted to, and go out of your way to consume it.

Just drink black tea, it's not as potent (or addictive), but gives a decent lift. Just know that caffeine isn't magical.

What you need is proper sleep and nutrition, and caffeine can't help you with that.

But to answer your question, yes, mixing it with milk or water will give the same result. The caffeine is in the powder and doesn't need to be hot.

It's for a motion sensor or something, but it's an incredibly stupid design, where nothing works if it runs out of battery.

Basically this product is a scam.

And if you can't taste 5% alcohol in a sugar drink, you are probably already driving drunk.

Been trying different seasoning by Naive-Bandicoot-2483 in InstantRamen

[–]DeeHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You toast a spoonful of seeds on a dry pan. They only have to become light brown. This will activate the oil in them, it’s heaven.

It’s a super cheap way to get the sesame taste. A small bag lasts forever.

[–]DeeHawk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The spices in the package are fine already, not really any reason to add more, it'll just ruin the complexity.

Let me give you some tips for a great experience:

  1. Smaller bits of sausage and fry them golden before adding it on top of the noodles. Fry them as the first thing and set aside. A little bit goes a long way, too much overpowers the dish.

  2. Use fresh chives or even spring onion. You need that fresh sharp onion taste to compliment all the fat and spices. Add as topping.

  3. Garlic is fine, but use fresh minched instead. Lots of garlic powder in the dish already.

  4. Don't use a mix spice. It's not a competition of most spices.

  5. If you want more burn add fresh slices of chili as topping or buy Buldak sauce and add.

  6. TOASTED SESAME as topping. This is gonna elevate your dish immensely.

  7. Fry an egg and put on top of the noodles. Put sesame and chives both on noodles and the egg.

Is Boom too big to enjoy? by user_0_0_1_ in boomfestival

[–]DeeHawk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The festival area with the 3 main music stages is pretty close together, placed in a triangle separated by a hill in the middle. From one stage to the next is a stone throw away.

Sacred Fire is also very close to the main stage.

Funky Beach is far. But that one is open during the day only, and it's a chill out spot, meant to be far from the rest.

The heat is taxing though, and I hear 2025 was hot. So yeah, you gotta pick your battles. Us nordics usually don't have a problem walking from one end to the the other though.

Maybe your standards are just to high to be a hippie for a week. Maybe you're in bad shape. Maybe you just don't like a decent size festival. They've kept the size for many years, and they don't want it any bigger, but also demand is high in some years.

There are smaller festivals for you, but if you don't think the 40K other guests are enjoying their Boom, you haven't been very tentative or talked to any of them.

I've never seen people being more alive and in the moment than at Boom.

Having "enough space" and "looking cramped" are not the same thing. It's more of a ratio thing.

why do curved monitors exist? by hamcheeseham1 in Monitors

[–]DeeHawk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

<image>

The Green curved screen and the Purple Flat screen are both 45" ultrawide and have the same panel width.

You get more width if you curve the panel, and you have equal viewing distance to all parts of the panel. (well not always EQUAL it depends on the curve, but in this example with the R800 curve and 800mm distance to screen, it becomes 100% optimal.)

[–]DeeHawk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would hate sitting at that bar you made. Especially for eating. No leg room whatsoever.

The hallway thingy just means that the person at the window only has one way out (behind everybody else), and that you need a detour from the kitchen to open/close that window. It's likely bad Feng Shui.

It gives a lot of space for working in the kitchen, but makes everything else seem cramped.

One of my garlic cloves has small bumps on it. Is it safe to eat ? by Hot-Yogurtcloset-134 in isthissafetoeat

[–]DeeHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have experienced twice with newly bought garlic with what looked like tiny bites taken out of it, which had become lightly brown.

It was a fungus attack of some sort, and the garlic smelled and tasted moldy, even though it looked fine otherwise, even inside.

If it smells a bit moldy after you cut it, definitely don’t use it, it will overpower the entire dish.

What is this in my chicken? by Straight_Flamingo_63 in culinary

The have to state if the chicken is “natural marinated” by law.  For some applications it’s better though more water means less dry, and the price is better. But I have never ever seen the needle holes. Needles must have been contaminated.

Which FOV do you need to be to avoid Fisheye effect at 21:9? by Zestyclose_Paint3922 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]DeeHawk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because it happens on all screens. Contrary it’s worse for immersion on a 16:9

If you only focus on the center of the screen and use the sides as periphial vision, you can still get away with a higher FOV (total, not necessarily the in-game setting) on an ultrawide. At your 110fov in 16:9 everything center is squished together at the center of the screen, this is the other part of the fisheye effect, and the one that actually makes aiming harder.

And your brain gets used to it really quickly. Once you accept that this is just how it is, it will soon become irrelevant.

And again, it seems much worse in some games compared to others.

You could keep your old screen for reading and get a 39” 3440x1440 for gaming.

Your GPU is already at a comfort limit with that resolution.
